Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 138 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Passengers frequently encounter extremely poor customer service, mentioning that representatives are often dismissive, difficult to reach, and entirely unhelpful when problems arise. People also struggle heavily with unexpected travel disruptions, missing flight connections, and severe delays that leave them stranded without proper support. Additionally, dealing with lost luggage and waiting many months for rightful compensation or ticket refunds remains a massive source of frustration. However, some customers also noted that specific long-haul journeys went smoothly without issues, and mentioned that a few staff members were genuinely pleasant.

Sales agent lies to sell tickets

I am writing to express my complete dissatisfaction with the commercial conditions offered to me when I purchased two round-trip tickets from Bogotá to Munich. I believe that the coercion and the lack of truthfulness in the prices offered constitute customer abuse.

Facts:
After making the reservation through Booking.com on Monday 19, 2025 I had to make a call on Tuesday May 20, 2025 to the numbers listed for Booking.com at +57 601 489 6*** to file a complaint. They had charged my VISA credit card for $13,086,869 pesos (U$3.034), but the reservation with Air France did not go through. The call was answered by Gustavo González. Expecting to be talking to a Booking customer service agent, I explained the situation. His immediate response was: ¨have you paid the penalty?¨ I asked him what penalty was he talking about? Booking.com did not make the reservation but charged my credit card. Then he said that I was not talking to a Booking. Com agent but directly to Air France. Then he said that returning the money to the card would generate a penalty. I said I was not willing to agree to that and he replied by saying I would have to purchase other tickets first in order to receive the refund.
After a few minutes, he told me he would give me the price of the new tickets. To my surprise, the new price was 16 million pesos (U$3.700), when I had already paid 13 million pesos (U$3.034). I told him I didn't agree with the price and wanted my money returned to my credit card. At that point, he reminded me I was speaking directly to Air France and not to a Booking.com agent, and that those were the conditions and I had to accept them.
Minutes later, he asked me how much I had paid at the Booking. Com web page and asked me to email proof of payment for 13,086,869 pesos (US$3,034.98). He then told me he would give me the same price and needed my credit card number to make the purchase. Before giving him my card number, I told him the price included seats I had already chosen and paid for, and Gustavo replied not to worry, as I could choose the seats again once I paid for the new tickets, hoping that after that I would be refunded.
I provided my card number, and minutes later, I received a charge for $1,940,273.47 pesos (US$450.00) in the name of AIR-TICKETS*I 801/780065 US. I asked him the reason for the charge, and he told me that the taxes from the previous reservation had been incorrectly calculated, and that was the difference. He should have told me this before using my credit card for that payment. However, he later told me that the difference, $12,121,103.93 pesos (US$2,811.00), was still due. So now the tickets cost US$3,261 and not US3.034 price that González had agreed to match.
Once I received the reservation, I proceeded to choose the seats I had chosen in the previous reservation. Surprise!!! I had to pay US$242.46 more.
In short, the tickets offered by Gustavo González over the phone for $3,034.98 actually cost me $3,503.46.
To date, Tuesday 27, 2025 they haven't refunded my credit card. An email sent from Gustavo Gonzalez stated that they would refund the $3,034.98 within 24 to 48 hours. As it stands, I've paid $6,538.44.
This situation has negatively affected my customer experience and has caused me great stress, frustration, and a loss of time and money. This is not the way to sell tickets, with deception, coercion, and false statements. Definitely, this is not the way to treat customers.

Baggage delayed, costs incurred, claim option on website temporary unavailable, claim refused due to expiry.
Not interested in helping, simple as that!
Shocking service.

Air France unethically took advantage of being late

They took advantage of me running late (due to automatic border control not working properly) and tricked me into paying 70 for an extra bag. Air France employees are trained that way, so ethics are out of the window. It was the little man (both literally and figuratively) on check-in counter 2F. Never again Air France even if i have to pay more. Making flying blue for people.

Poor customer service or rather disdain for customers by Air France

My wife and I travelled with AF from Johannesburg with end destination London Heathrow via Paris Charles de Gaulle in economy class.
The flight from JNB to CDG was uneventful but found that I am now too old for long haul economy flights, but that's by the bye.
So the issue was with the flight from CDG to LHR scheduled for gate closure at 07:15. Once boarded we were told there was an issue with the latch on a door to the hold. One hour went by. We were then told that there was a security issue and everyone needed to disembark. One hour later we were told that now the air conditioning control unit had a malfunction so we taxied to a maintenance area. An hour later again, flight AF 1680 tried to make its way to the runway but stopped and now we were told that one of the emergency exit doors could not be shut properly. Flight AF 1680 was now cancelled. The earliest alternative flight is tonight at 20:40. But hey, we got a €15 voucher each for something to eat/drink. We asked whether it was possible to have access to the AF lounge to freshen up and chill since we had seven hours to wait for our flight home. The attendant declined which would have been a nice gesture since we had been travelling for quite some time by now.
We now have to rearrange dog sitters, work commitments for tomorrow etc since at best we'll reach home at 1:00 tomorrow morning.
I appreciate that aircraft can break down but don't appreciate being given four different reasons which don't add up at all.
Now there's me hoping that we're not getting a repeat performance tonight.
My gripe is that AF could have made a small gesture which would not have put us off ever again booking with AirFrance/KLM. We shall now follow their complaint procedure, so tbc.

Tickets Downgraded Without Consent – Still No Compensation

We booked a long trip in January, paying nearly £9,000. Our itinerary was changed last-minute without our knowledge or consent. This included a downgrade from Premium Economy to Economy, along with a significantly longer journey back home. We were traveling with two young children, which made the experience especially stressful.

The response from customer service was equally frustrating. We were told the change had been made by a local airline in Brazil—despite never booking with or having direct contact with that airline. This passing of responsibility is completely unacceptable. If Air France works with partner airlines, they still need to take accountability if those partners make mistakes.

We are incredibly disappointed by the lack of communication, transparency, and responsibility shown throughout this process. We are still seeking compensation for the downgrade, delays, and disruption.

For the price we paid and the disruption to our family’s trip, we expected much better. We hope this review prompts action where previous attempts have failed.

They changed the flight day with months in advance and kept selling the original flight at a higher price!!

I bought a flight from Spain to Brazil in April, with departure in December 2025. A few weeks after the purchase, I received a notification that my flight had “changed“: these MFs moved it to the next day, making me lose one day of my hard-earned vacations. The cherry on top? They kept selling that same flight at a higher price!!! That’s overbooking and it’s ilegal!!! I’ve sent several claims, that they closed without answering and contacted the customer care via whatsapp – the service is outrageously bad!! I’ve requested a full refund and compensation. Found countless of similar cases online. I’m never flying AF again.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction

I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with the service my wife and I received during our recent business class flights with Air France from Paris to Madrid and back, which were part of our overall itinerary from Panama to Madrid.

Despite traveling in business class—where meal service is included in the fare—we were not offered any meal on either leg of our Paris–Madrid flights, simply because we are vegan. While all other passengers were served meals, we were completely disregarded. The crew made no effort to offer us a substitute meal or even light snacks, leaving us hungry and highly uncomfortable while those around us were served without issue.

What makes this even more frustrating is that our request for compensation under claim C-9366873 was rejected without any explanation as to why the airline failed to provide a service we paid for. The meal was part of our ticket cost, and Air France failed to fulfill this basic obligation, without offering any form of refund or appropriate compensation.

This experience is not only disappointing but suggests a concerning lack of inclusivity and consideration for passengers with dietary requirements—especially in business class, where a higher standard of service is expected.

I will also strongly reconsider flying with Air France in the future.

I request a prompt and fair resolution to this matter, including a clear explanation and appropriate compensation for the service failure and discomfort we endured.

Sincerely,
Mikhail & Rimma Shifrin

How Can You Justify €10 for All This Trouble?”

I bought an Air France ticket for over €1000 and had a very disappointing experience due to a baggage incident. Despite the inconvenience, delays, stress, and extra costs I endured, they offered me a ridiculous €10 compensation — with no real effort to acknowledge or address the issue.

This kind of treatment is unacceptable from an airline that claims to offer premium service. The lack of empathy, support, and concrete solutions was extremely frustrating.

Air France cost me time, money, and most of all, trust. This is an experience I wouldn’t wish on any traveler.

Checking in luggage is now left to a…

Checking in luggage is now left to a clunky and painful self service system.

On our 14hr flight from Japan to Paris we left Japan at 8:50am. We were served *lunch" at 10:00am. We then had no other food or snacks offered to us for 10 hrs. A trolly was placed at the rear of the aircraft where there was a free for all for tiny cups of water, cola & juice.
The cabin crew sat near this trolly watching tablets and chatting. Occasionally one would wonder through the isle looking slightly bored.
Approx 1hr before landing a child like snack box was given out. I imagine so you have just enough energy to leave the aircraft.

I've never experienced such a lack of service on any flight. No amount of advertising or gimmicks that you are forced to watch before takeoff could bring me to book another flight with Air France.

Manchester to Rio via Paris

We flew from Manchester to Rio via Paris in economy and had a great experience. Spacious, great entertainment screens, friendly staff, food ok, generous with drinks and snacks plus the bonus of free champagne. A long day but felt fine at the end of it.
Will definitely use again.

Mediocre Airline

Oh, I picked up Air France because of a friend of mine who works there as a stewardess wanted to impress me with their level of service. I was in for a treat she said. After she asked for my day of departure, she was going to leave a note to the crew to my attention. I was excited, booked my ticket and checked in online, I went to the airport to register my luggage and something did not go as expected. Apparently, my booking was not saved. I went to see an AF agent, he told me that I was not on the flight! He also could not understand why since I showed him my booking, but I thought that maybe this was something to do with booking me to a superior class. I waited for quite a bit of time at the counter, though, finally, I was given a seat in the middle (I specifically requested aisle when I booked), worst than this, it was a lousy seat at the rear of the plane, next to the toilets! When I reached my seat, I was very discontent, just to find out my video screen was kaput! I had to sit for the full length of the trip with no entertainment, no excuses, no nothing. The meal was absolute junk food: some overcooked noodles with some kind of cream to top them up for the first serving, the second serving consisted in a hot sandwich. Poor service, poor food, no entertainment, lousy company.

Worst customer service in the industry

My flight on March 8 from Mumbai to Paris was cancelled. I applied for a refund immediately. One month later customer service people on the phone have no record of my claim despite assigning it a claim number. Beyond annoyed and of course will continue to bug them until they do the right thing. Meanwhile DO NOT FLY AIR FRANCE. EVER.

Airfrance/Flying Blue discrimination

I booked a flight from London to Lagos on emergency because my father had a stroke and I needed to fly urgently.
I am a silver flying blue member and Air France is my dedicated and trusted airline for the past decade.
I booked the ticket online and it went successfully. My miles were deducted and my payment was also taken out of my card only to receive an email that my ticket had been cancelled.
I called them and they basically told me that because I was flying to Africa that I wasn’t allowed to book emergency tickets prior to 11 days of flying. In the words of the flying blue agent, Africa is fraudulent and so I need to book 11 days in advance.

They sent me to the airport knowing fully well that there was no ticket counter at the Heathrow airport and so I was turned back from the airport after a 1 hour drive.

I called them again and they assured me they could help me and emailed me a form. Zero response.

I called third time and a lady said she would help me book a ticket and she did and once again debited my miles and my card (note now over a thousand euros gone).

I get an email on the day of the flight, my flight has been cancelled.

I called them and the lady basically told me that because I had a Nigerian passport and because I was traveling to the continent that Air France couldn’t authorize my ticket.

Basically as a 10 year flying blue member, I cannot buy an emergency ticket because I am Nigerian and because I am going to Africa. My loyalty to the brand means nothing. My good standing with flying blue means nothing

If they knew they wouldn’t honor my purchase why did they book it a second time. Why wasn’t I just told there wasn’t anything that could be done.

I asked to speak to a manager and they argued with me over the phone and sent me to a voicemail.

My father is stuck in a hospital with no family member. I built loyalty with this brand over the years only for me to be discriminated against due to my nationality and place of travel without consideration of the 15+ year relationship.

I am emotionally distraught. Money gone Miles gone. Zero assistance

Shame on you Airfrance and Flying blue

The worst customer service on planet

The worst customer service on the world. Even Vietjet and Lion Air did it better. I've booked a return connecting flight from Europe to Japan. The worst experience - they don't let you choose seats, choose food, even for a 1500EUR + ticket, you're forced to pay 40+ euro per seat per leg! to seat together. There's no option to add luggage - if you didn't booked it in advance you need to go at the airport and be surprised with the price (they don't even provide the price in advance!). I recommend to avoid this french bins at all cost!

Airfrance is without any doubt one of…

Airfrance is without any doubt one of the worst airlines you possibly choose. I've flown with them once and I'll never fly with Airfrance again. The in-flight food was atrocious, considering that the French brag about their cuisine the food was appalling. The service on the flight was terrible, the cabin crew tried their very hardest to ignore you as much as possible. I booked a premium economy ticket and the was expecting a comfortable flight. The reclining function was broken and the seat was extremely uncomfortable. I was offered a £50 voucher for the inconvenience. I find their "goodwill offer" of a voucher to be quite unbelievable and the audacity they have to think that I'd ever fly with them again. So in retaliation for their abysmally poor service I'll take it upon myself to inform as many people as possible about their terrible airline.

Before you book: Airfrance has no customer service

Be aware before you book: there is effectively no customer service.
Finding out the costs of some kilograms overweight, proves to be impossible. The website has too many wrong references (with excuses), wrong links (with excuses) and 404's to name them. Their option-path to get to the bagage overweight costs you hours, because it proves to be a labyrinth, and no result.
Generally, the 'customerservice' doesnot work. Even the overview of the customerservice (Airfrance Helpshift: 12-ways-to-reach-air-france-customer-service-by-phone-chat-and-email-the-ultimate-help-guide/) doesnot work: a 404. Finally found a telephone, and again a labyrint of options. I tricked a bit and finally I got a real human being on the phone. He said: Call this number again and first you press 1, and then 2". Which proved to be false. I can imagine he said that, because it doesnot matter what he says anyway when there is no customer service.

If you are not French, prepare to be mistreated!

I boarded my business class flight to Bangkok, and all was well. Plane seemed good, and so did the seat, so far so good!
As soon as we took off, the staff took notice that I was not French, and out came the hate filled messages because I was English. Proceeding to comment and criticise everything about English food and culture, and trying their best to be funny. They even tried to rally French people around me to join in. I felt embarrassed, and almost in a retaliation mode because let's face it, there are far worse things I could have said about their nation... But no, I held my tongue.
Absolutely disgusting and vile behaviour from numerous members of staff, followed by a dismal service where they kept "forgetting" my orders. More like, they wanted to treat me like trash.
I have never known such an unprofessional outfit before, with what are, large French children on a school playground in the sky.
