Well written
Good for getting a baseline.
There were no OMG moments or surprises but it is really amazing how this service does a deep dive into me and my family history. I’ve enjoyed being able to take what I’ve gotten to my doctor in regards to my health outlook and have good discussions about diet and exercise of both body and brain.
All good
I am happy to see more ancestral things coming up and more additions to the health part of 23 and me. I enjoy seeing where my ancestors came from.
Close your account
23andMe filed for bankruptcy protection, being fined by UK and other regulators for a 2023 data breach, and announcing that the company is being sold. The data breach exposed customer information from millions of accounts, and the subsequent sale has raised privacy concerns for many customers. So I closed my account and asked for immediate deletion of all my personal details.
Bring Back the Genetic Data and the Chromosome Display
Although I am pleased with the added features that the subscription offers me, I find that I am hindered in my genealogical work because I no longer have access to the genetic data and the chromosome displays. I had hoped that they would be restored after your customers had reset their passwords and adopted dual factor authentication. I do not see any reason for you to deprive us of the services we once enjoyed because of the use of recycled credentials by your irresponsible customers. It is 100 percent their own fault if their accounts were accessed without their consent!
I LOVE 23andme
I LOVE 23andme. I am so glad they were able to salvage the company and not go out of business. They continuingly work to improve and refine, their research on DNA ancestry and health. I pay for the yearly premium subscription which is super reasonable so that I always get the latest updates. I especially enjoy the "Historical Matches." Keep up the good work 23and me!

I have been with 23 for over a decade. I think the service is awesome. I am amazed at the way learning more makes you want to do more good for yourself

I paid for premium or whatever the higher price deal was. They still hit me to upgrade constantly? I don't even know what I get for what I pay for. And the week after I paid the premium subscription I read they had filed bankruptcy? I still get hit for more money way more then I receive information. To the point I blocked their emails. I'd rather sign in and look at my results then open 100 emails with nothing but asking for more $$$

This company has closed - bankruptcy
This company has closed. Went bankrupt after allowing people's DNA to be used by other companies. Was sued and had to pay out millions. Company assets sold on.
Update Review
The overall ethnicity (ie. British and Irish) was a good improvement. 93% British and Irish seems right and actually matches other tests. But breaking down the regions into countries seemed a little off. I lost 2 of my close communities with a country as well (Ireland). I do have at least some Irish ancestry (other tests pick it up.) I had, but lost, Central and Southern Ireland and Southern Munster as close genetic groups. I also lost my distant Ireland and England genetic groups. And my smallest percentage (Wales) has a "very close community". Overall semi better, but I now only have ONE genetic group (excluding additional genetic groups in the US) with a premium. I upgraded to premium to see more genetic groups, which seemed pretty accurate before the update.
My nearly fully Czech brother-in-law has a VERY small portion that isn't Eastern European. He did receive good Czech and Slovakian groups, but he also received about 6 English genetic communities.
I only have one genetic community and I'm 93% British and Irish.
The overall British and Irish percentage seems more realistic for me, but some regions seemed better before the update.
I honestly liked it better before because it wasn't overly specific, so I could put it together using my knowledge of my family. I gave it a 3 but technically I'd say a "strong 3 going on 4". I've always enjoyed the layout and how 23andme utilized maps though.

I gave a one star because since I originally set up an account I have not been able to go back online. I have contacted customer service with no help. So I have never been able to see my results and your company were unable to help me see my results online or email me a copy of the results

My 23andMe Experience
To date, I've had a great experience with 23andMe. I've learned about many DNA relations. Unfortunately, there are no records for direct relatives before me. They have passed on and left no records behind.
Love it so much
