Replacing a "Heritage" Apple Mac

Called into Western Computers in Chester. My old Mac bought in 2013 was running extremely slowly and despite many consultations with Apple Support, the latest one convinced me that as I had a "heritage" Mac (!) I probably needed a new machine. Jack the customer service person listened closely to what I said I needed in a new Mac. He was never pushy, always upfront and was never too proud to seek extra information from his colleagues. I was under time-pressure to get all my existing material from my old Mac onto my new one. This was done for me within two hours. Yes, I had a bit of faff with passwords afterwards, but I will say, that the Chester branch showed me nothing but courtesy and a willingness to help. Thank you Jack!

Unreliable appointment system

Looking for a battery replacement. Found the store through the apple website on Wednesday morning, phoned first to get advise, advised to book online. Book online for Leamington Spa store on the Western Computers website on Wednesday morning for an appt on Friday morning. Receive confirmation email: "You're all set. Our Service Department is expecting you". Travel 1/2 hour to store on Friday morning. Told the technician is not in until next Wednesday. Drive 30 minutes home, not entirely sure where I've gone wrong. Check W.C website and appointments still available on the Monday and Tuesday despite no technician.

I'm sure the service is great, the store looks nice and no doubt the staff are knowledgeable- this is no slight on them, but as there is no reliable way of knowing if you're appointment is valid or not, I personally found it might not be worth going out of your way to get there unless you're in the area already. I decided instead to travel a bit further to an Apple store rather than risk a wasted journey for a second time.

Just awful avoid and use Apple store even if you have to wait for an appointment, absolute scamming rob dogs. Aggressive staff when challenged and should not be associated with Apple at all. AVOID AVOID

Misselling in Oxford shop

I asked for a cable to connect a USB storage device to my MacBook M1. I was sold the wrong cable in their Oxford shop. I found out only when I got home. I was told to send it back by post and I would get a refund. This has never happened.

A pleasant surprise.

I was not looking forward to visiting your shop because of my complete incompetence with everything digital. I was very pleasantly surprised as my wife and I were received with courtesy by Joost who sorted out our problem efficiently and with humour. When we retuned to collect my phone we were met by Matt who also served us promptly, efficiently and professionally. An all round good experience, thank you

Something very spooky going on here..

Last weekend I walked out of the pub, went over my ankle and fell down a flight of 3 large steps onto the pavement hitting the floor like I’d fallen out of a plane. iPhone 13pro with case, screen protector, and cam protector in hand - needless to say it went from pristine to not so. Even worse it didn’t slow me down.
A small crack in the bottom left of the screen and a small isolated scuff to the nearby surround.
Thank god I’d taken out AppleCare+ when I got this phone 3 months prior.
I went into settings found AppleCare subscription went through the prompts and within around 10 presses was being offered an appointment at my local ‘Western Computer Apple Resellers’ at 10:40 on Wednesday for a cracked iPhone 13pro screen repair which I confirmed. I was left with an eery feeling, surely nothing is this easy? I was right.
Upon attending my ‘iPhone 13pro cracked screen repair’ appointment I was met by a man at the till who didn’t look 100% sure what either of us were doing there.. but I excitedly told him I’m Michael H for my 10:40 repair appointment. Computer says no. He checked the system and quickly told me “ohh no, this isn’t a repair appointment. I know it says that when you book in on Apple.. but In actual fact this appointment is just to TALK about your cracked screen. We also haven’t got any screens in stock.” As you can imagine this was a short conversation.
I asked if he can put a screen on order for me and I’ll come back a different day. He said yes I can but I’ll have to leave my phone there for an unknown amount of time which I could not.
Instead he told me to call head office every couple of days to check for stock and book in.. which I did. I spoke to Hayley who was a very bright and helpful lady who seemed to do her utmost to make the process simple for me. Immediately calling the store checking for stock and booking me in.
I was able to get in the car and attend straight away for a same day repair. I got down there and signed in which includes taking a photo of the phone.
I came back two hours later a man shows me the phone and straight away I can see that there is some new minor scratching, around 2-3 inches more of the screen surround, very tightly where it meets glass. I was met with the choice of refusing it there and then with the man who’d been far less than helpful previously or going home, cooling off and maybe accepting it because it looked relatively minor in the store or at worst I could call helpful Hayley at head office. Unfortunately I made the wrong choice. I got home and the disappointment set in. My eyes ever drawn to the shining scratches. 20 minutes passed and I called Hayley. Thankfully she answered and was sympathetic. Calling the store to tell them of the problem and telling me to attend the store first thing after the bank holiday weekend. I did.
I had a funny feeling it was coming.. the staff completely denied any possibility it could have happened and tried to pursued me that it had been done at the time of original accident, but it had not. They showed me the picture of the phone PRE-repair and I thought I could see the new damage there and immediately thought the time stamps must have been altered. In actual fact what I can see in the ‘before’ image is just light reflecting rather than the new scratches and therefore doubt that now. I explained that I hadn’t come to argue over whether or not the new damage had been done during repair, it had. I had no proof and should have refused it on the day. I was purely there to give them a chance to put it right before I wrote my honest review. I was met only with shaking heads and very direct suggestions that I was ‘trying it on’.
Who you gonna call? You guessed it I stepped outside and got Helpful Hayley back on the blower. True to form once again she reassured me they’d do right by me and put me in touch with Pete the service manager. Unfortunately this was the end-game. Pete took very much the same stance as the gentlemen who’d denied all in the store and denied it once again. He also suggested even more explicitly that I was lying. A very unpleasant tone right from the off too I might add, Pete.
It was clear to see I was fighting a losing battle so on a final note I mentioned to Pete that I’m also unhappy about the amount of dust that can clearly be seen trapped behind the new screen and the internal camera lens.. He laughed at the suggestion that this could be true. Told me to have fun writing my review and hung up the phone.
I certainly have.
Obviously first and last time.
Obviously would not recommend anybody else enter the twilight zone that is Western Computers ‘Premium’ Apple Resellers.

iPhone 14 Pro

I was after an iPhone 14 Pro and placed an order with another company who later let me down by
cancelling my order and telling me they didn't have enough stock. By this point everywhere else was sold
out. I called the Western Computer helpline to see if they had stock, luckily they had a couple of models
remaining. I went into store to place my order with Gabby, she was very polite and professional... the day
after I picked up my new phone without waiting weeks like everywhere else!

I have just purchased a new I pad air…

I have just purchased a new I pad air 5th gen 2022. I managed to transfer all data and apps from my old I pad, the only problem was Facebook/messenger. Took it into Western Computers in Cheltenham yesterday and asked Matt if he could help, he did help and got back my Facebook account onto the new I pad in about ten minutes. Very pleased with service offered here thank you Matt.

Saved the day!

My Mac Mini's hard drive failed, popped in and spoke to them who gave me all the options and best advise for it.

They turned the repair around very quickly and I know have a working Mac Mini again!

I am responding to your response to my review as there is no reply facility.

Oh my days if I was a betting woman I would have bet that you would post a defensive and indeed inaccurate response as that is a pattern in all your responses to your many dissatisfied customers on this site.

In your response to my previously posted review you state that I chose not to get the repair doenand took my laptop back and then only later returned it for repair. That is TOTALLY incorrect and in fact is a lie!!! I would be more than happy to post my email trail on here outlining the situation.

I had my laptop assessed by you and when I was given a quote for the repair I decided it was too expensive so said not to go ahead. I never picked my laptop up from you during this time and it was always with you. I then found some money to ask you to go ahead and do the repair. After you said it was repaired and I picked it up for the first time, it is then I started having problems with it and had to keep taking it back to you reporting issues.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT WHEN POSTING DEFENSIVE RESPONSES.

Again people out there avoid this company at all costs especially the PRESTON store. You can see from all the complaints on this site that this is a very defensive company that doesn't seem to have the ability to reflect on poor customer experiences.

Cheltenham store…

I have visited the Cheltenham store twice recently (once for a a very sleepy Mac) and the second with an issue with my iPhone. On both occasions had top service and advice, I couldn’t have been more impressed.

Absolutely appalling experience

Absolutely appalling experience. Booked an appointment for a battery replacement on a phone. Walked an hour to get to the shop to be told they had no service technicians available this week and that they 'had told everybody that'. They didn't notify me. I then called their customer service line to ask why I wasn't notified and what I needed to do to rebook. Service agent was very rude, uninterested in the fact that I had been messed around, and then sighed audibly and said he couldn't understand what I wanted. Frankly I wanted an apology for wasting my time and then an assurance that next time I hike to the store for a pre-booked appointment that they would be able to fulfil my service. Will not be returning.

Our website does state that if you require a same-day iPhone repair that we recommend you call us before your appointment to guarantee we have the parts and availability to do this. Our online appointments are just to drop the device into us and does not mean a repair on the spot. We always try to cater to our customers and if possible we will do the repair as quick as possible. New Phone Setup. Bought a new Iphone SE 22 from store in…

Bought a new Iphone SE 22 from store in Regent Arcade Cheltenham. Had to transfer all data from an old iphone which had been given to me by a friend. Not a easy task as it still was under the previous owners name and password. Obtained password and the transfer of data was completed fully. As they did not have a screen protector I purchased one fro another store and it was fitted without any additional charge.
Many thanks to the staff who were all friendly and knowledgable. Special thanks to Martin who is a star!

The Apple Store laughed When I told them I tried Western Computers

Let me start with this summary, the guys in the Apple store laughed out loud when I said I tried Western First.

Took the iMac with cracked glass to the store for repair. Easy glass + Labour = Cost. Nope, not for these guys. I would have to pay £99 for them to tell me what was wrong (I think that's obvious), then they would send me a quote, but if I didn't like the quote, they would keep the £99. Apple does ALL that for free.

SCAM SCAM SCAM, stay well clear of these stores and just go straight to the genius bar.

Hi Simon, let me start by saying we are an Apple authorised service provider. If we were not trusted by Apple then we would not be an approved/ authorised provider and would lose our Apple status. The £99 is a diagnostics fee which covers our labour and the use of Apple tools by our trained Apple technicians. Should your device need parts then that Is the ONLY additional you would pay for. Although your device may have a visual fault, Apple require us to run a full diagnostics to ensure there are no other faults and they only allow us to order the parts required once we report this diagnostics to them. This is not a scam, this is a process to ensure we are fixing your device fully and not giving it back with other faults not reported. Apple may not charge for this because it's their product and manufactured by them - we charge for our time and the service we provide to fix an Apple device. Disappointed that after just 3 month of…

Disappointed that after just 3 month of purchase my iPhone leather cover at the cost of £59 it’s change colour and looks like a 20 years old cover. I was told that I have to speak to apple direct 🤷🏽‍♂️, I contacted apple and they told me it’s wear and tear so I have to throughout my cover and buy a newer as it’s embarrassing to be seen with this cover , thanks for nothing.

So you still selling a leather apple cover when you know that the colour change with in weeks!!! I founded misleading when I purchase a orange cover and it turns brown red in few weeks !!! Sorry I don’t think it’s fair and a massive cost. Unfortunately I purchased from you not apple and so I was expecting a better resolution. Just have to stop buying from you again thank you for nothing.
And your response is that can’t do nothing as the item was tear and ware too damage? And contradicted yourself as the item was faulty and was confirmed by your staff, basically you guys make it not your problem but the customers problem ? You Just lost some customers

Hi Paco, I am sorry to hear this. From my understanding the case had severe wear and tear which is something that is not covered under manufacture fault. Apple also do not provide any sort of warranty coverage with their iPhone cases so although we would love to help you further, it's out of our hands. Because of the severe wear and tear to the case, it was not classed as a fault and is not something we see with our other customers. In this case, unfortunately there is nothing else we can do to resolve a worn iPhone case.
