Scammed by a seemingly genuine high profile operator.

I checked the hotel I had selected, the Senator Port Mahon in Menorca. on Trivago and was directed to the cheapest price through a company called Algotels. I made the booking and was charged £320 for our three night stay.
When we arrived, the hotel, had no record of our reservation. They even checked with the Senator Hotels head office, who had never heard of Algotels. Luckily, as it was low season I was able to make a reservation again through Booking. com, as rooms were still available, though more expensive than the original reservation.
I tried to contact Algotels, initially but failed to get through to anybody. So I raised a chargeback through my Credit Card provider and received a full refund.
Subsequent research has revealed that Algotels is a subsidiary of Trivago and appears to be a fake operation. Don't believe all the hype on the TV adverts, it seems to be just a scam.

Three nights at the television price…

Three nights at the television price advertised is a month's rent. 6 nights at the television commercials price is one month of a mortgage payment. Television is not helping travel with the suggestion that 220$ a night is for common regular people.

I have used trivago a couple of times…

I have used trivago a couple of times and have not had any issues but this time they referred me to a travel site that was called WEGO. As it turns out they are out of UAE. And customer service is non existent. If they are going to recommend a travel site they need to vet them. I booked with WEGO and they did not send my reservation to the hotel and though I had a booking number the hotel had no information on my reservation. I had to then purchase a room at the hotel even though I had prepaid my reservation. The ease of the process was good but it was bogus. Better to just go directly to the hotel site. The site was a third party reservation site for hotel and flights. I don’t know if there is another site under the name WEGO but that was the name on the reservation site.

This was a very bad experience

This was a very bad experience. I received a booking number from Trivago for the Paris hotel in Vegas. I took a picture of the number for check in. When I got to the hotel, I was told they couldnt find my name or reservation. The hotel was full along with all of the neighboring hotel/resorts. I was required to make a 4+ hour drive home at 11pm which had me home after 3am traveling/driving alone. I had to pay a 25.00 parking fee at the resort and Trivago did not offer to reimburse me this cost.
There was a 5% discount offered for my next stay. Unacceptible.

Non existent customer service and no res changes

The first time I tried the service out was for a hotel and 2 rooms. It was only 10 dollars cheaper, but decided to try it. Their date format was different than I'm used to so I was off by a day. There was all this language on the checkout page on how great their customer service is etc. So I booked and about 20 min later realized the mistake and asked to change it. Within seconds their "help person" denied it via an email. I tried calling and never got out of the automated system. This website is a sham and you won't save that much anyway. That was the fastest I have ever wasted hundreds of dollars. TL;DR there are no changes to your reservation and there is 0 human customer service.

Trivago deserves no stars

Trivago deserves no stars. I warn anyone considering using trivago to abort mission. The idea of saving a few bucks turned out to be a nightmare. I am very dissatisfied. Trivago did not follow through to schedule the booking that I had advance paid for. Arrived at my destination only to find out Trivago had been paid and not scheduled my reservation. Trivago received my money for service they did not provide and thus far reject refunding. Since the reservation was not able to be found, I had to pay again. I had paid the insurance for this booking. I have for one and a half months now been fighting to get my money back. I thought the problem had been resolved by my bank and the refund had been returned into my account. One month later, now they have pulled the exact same amount out of my bank account. Talk about angry! I have paid for a reservation with trivago that was never made, and they did not hold up on their end. They should not be paid for not doing their job and me not receiving services rendered. I work hard for my money, and I don’t just throw it away. I will continue to fight to resolve this matter. But I certainly warn anyone to avoid scheduling through trivago. One highly dissatisfied, customer!

Trivago my ass

Trivago. Ha! What a bunch of b***s**t. I booked a room through them, gave them my credit card, completed the transaction and was immediately charged for it by "algotels". Who the hell is algotels? NOTHING from Trivago. A scam or what? So I call the hotel to check my reservation. Nothing! Got a problem? Deal with algotels NOT Trivago. The charge was reversed the next day but only after I spent more than an hour on the phone with the hotel and algotels. Why would they bill me for a room when it wasn't even confirmed with the hotel and where is Trivago in this process? Beware!

You should NOT check Trivago

You should NOT check Trivago, stay away... definitely use Expedia or Booking.com instead. I have contacted customer service about an issue regarding cancellation and refund more than 5 times. No response via email or phone. With Expedia and Booking it is instant conversation or message chat. I thiught I was booked with Trivago but it was Algotels and their rating is even worse! Do not spend your money here if you want a guaranteed and smooth holiday booking.

Won’t use them ever!

The service is terrible, they stalled getting back to me about a cancelled reservation and that’s just the start. I had cancelled my reservation because of an emergency situation that came up the same day. I got a run around and decided to call the hotel directly. I was told that trivago controls the money but that the hotel had no issue with me canceling under the circumstances. Keep in mind my bank account was charged right away as I made the reservation and before I even received my confirmation email. When I called customer service the receptionist who answered was foreign and kept getting my name wrong. She asked me a million questions even after giving her my address, phone number, email address and dates of reservation. I was waiting on the social security # to come up, DAMN! Trivago, advertise on their site that they know certain emergencies come up in life that are out of anyone’s control and consideration is seriously considered in these matters. That’s BS, they take your money and then give you every excuse in the world why you can’t get a refund. Also, they wait less than 24 hours before your check in to respond with their excuse of why they’re are sorry they can’t accommodate! Never using them again. Oh, almost forgot, when I called the hotel directly I was told my reservation was through Expedia, that tells me Trivago is just a third party and that’s how they get paid. It’s a wrap, good luck!

Don't waste ur time

Thought I'd give him a try for this trip. Spent almost an hour on the phone with an agent after online booking wouldn't work. Finally got booked at a hotel , had a booking number anyway but not final confirmation . It was late at night and the book you fell through. Extremely frustrating, especially 9:00 at night trying to book a hotel room this 3 hours away and ended up spending 50 minutes on the phone because the app wouldn't allow me to book the room. The agent was as helpful as she could be.

I used Trivago to find a hotel in the US and had the worse experience

I used Trivago to find a hotel in Boston. Trivago came back with a very attractive offer that I booked with Trivago, and I paid for it. I received an email from Prestigia.com telling me that they were Trivago's partners and they send me their confirmation for the hotel booking. I called the hotel. There was no reservation under my name. I waited 2 more days -my credit card was charged-. I called again, No reservation. I send an email to Prestigia asking for my money back. They informed me of an error and send me the hotel's reservation number. I called the hotel. NOW the reservation was there, BUT it was stated that I have to pay upon check in... I had already paid for my booking. I paid what I thought it was Trivago and now this new company Prestigia, that are telling me are Trigavo's partner was lying, taking my money and lying again... They do not want to send back my payment! I have contacted my credit card and they will open an investigation. I will never do any business with Trivago again!!! Their partner Prestigia is a con company.

Will never use again

Will never use again! Terrible customer service if you need to cancel or change. I have been on the phone for almost an hour trying to removed 1 day from a 5 day reservation for 2 rooms. I have been transferred twice and from the very beginning I could not even find the agency they used to book my reservation. Beware!!

After supposedly booking a hotel in…hawaii got the old bait and switch.

After supposedly booking a hotel in honolulu received an email saying it couldnt accept payment because of booking issue and gave a number to call. Turns out hotel did not accept listed price and I would have to pay more. Tried a second hotel on Trivago with same result (and same phone number). Classic bait and switch. Filed a complaint with FTC..Everyone having this problem should file complaints until FTC acts.

Trivago sucks

My husband and I booked rooms at theAstoria Riverwalk Inn through trivago. They gentlemen we were going to go fishing on the charter with called and stated they had changed the date from Tuesday to Thursday for our trip. I tried many times to contact trivago and change my reservations, but all I got was a response that they would not change the date. My only option was to cancel my reservation and lose my $428 that we paid for two nights after two days of not been able to get an answer from anyone and being told customer service would reach out to me. There was no customer service. I will never use them again. They are crooks. They do not care once you book. I contacted the hotel and they were happy to change my dates for me, but the trivago site would not let them do that either. We ended up having to go on the dates we have planned and add other nights on so we could have our fishing trip. Trivago sucks.

Think twice before booking

B&B Golden House & spa;Petraro Emilio Iuso 19, 87040 Rose, Calabria, Italy.

We stayed at this property from July 6–17, 2026. We were 4 adults and our small dog. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing due to poor communication and unprofessional management.
When we arrived, we were given an entry code and checked ourselves in. No one greeted us, showed us the apartment, or completed an arrival inspection. We also noticed ants throughout the kitchen upon arrival.
Before booking, we contacted the property owners through Booking.com to ask about the fee for our dog, because the listing stated that charges might apply. We never received a response. After we had already been staying at the property for eight days, we suddenly received a WhatsApp message demanding payment for a daily dog fee. We met with the owner the following day, explained that we had tried to clarify this months earlier, and he acknowledged the misunderstanding, told us not to worry about the fee, shook our hands, and said we should “start over.”
The following day, however, the cleaning lady, who claimed she was also the “property manager” (she never introduced herself as such to us) questioned us about our conversation with the owners. Though we had no obligation to tell her about our conversation with the owners, we did so in good faith. She disagreed with us and switched the conversation to our “inappropriate “ use of the air conditioning in the apartment. She wanted us to completely shut down the air conditioning every time we left the apartment. She became upset when we explained that, due to daily temperatures exceeding 35°C, we preferred to leave the air conditioning on while we were out. When we returned from the beach later that day, three of the four air-conditioning units had been turned off despite our request that they be left on, and it took hours for the apartment to cool down again. We then asked that no one enter the apartment for the remainder of our stay except to provide fresh towels, and the owners agreed.
Checkout was the most concerning part of our stay. We were instructed that someone would inspect the apartment at 10:00 a.m. We notified the owners that we were ready, and the cleaning lady (NOT the property owners) arrived, completed the inspection, confirmed everything was in order, collected the keys, and we left.
About an hour later, the owners emailed claiming that we had failed to wait for the inspection and key handover. They also accused us of causing damage, sent photos of items they claimed were damaged or misplaced, and threatened legal and criminal action. We had recorded the condition of the apartment before leaving, as well as the checkout inspection confirming everything was acceptable, so these accusations were extremely upsetting.
We travel regularly and have stayed in many accommodations over the years, but we have never experienced anything like this.
While the apartment itself had potential, the lack of communication, inconsistent information, false accusations, and threats after checkout made this an incredibly stressful experience.
Unfortunately, we cannot recommend staying here.

Rates not very competitive

Tried for hotels in Las Palmas, Porto and Helsinki...Trivago rates were nowhere close to what I could get on the hotels websites or even Booking.com.
Unfortunately the hype doesn't seem to match the real-time experience.

Booked a Vancouver Hotel in July 2025…

Booked a Vancouver Hotel in July 2025 for Aug 2026. Trivago notifies me July 3, 2026 that the hotel is overbooked and I have the option to book another or get a refund in 3-10. I requested a refund and after 12 days no refund yet. Called and spoke to 2 representatives and one says refund in on it's way via Paypal and the other says is "being processed".
They take your money and don't want to return it!!
Horrible customer service.
