Very kind and supportive stewardess . Am most grateful for their concern and care when not being unwell due to travel sickness and even after landing. I would said the sitting I booked was not given... See more

My experience has made me seriously question the benefit of booking flights through a third-party agent rather than directly with the airline.
I booked and paid for my flight through TravelUp. Because I was concerned about the ticketing, I specifically contacted them the day before travel and was reassured that my flight was issued and confirmed.
Despite this, when I arrived at Gatwick, the airline/ground handler initially could not accept me for travel because of the ticket/payment status. I was sent between desks, faced the possibility of missing my flight and was quoted more than £1,300 for a replacement ticket. Eventually, at around 13:33, I was told that the payment had come through and I was able to check in.
I raised a formal complaint because I wanted to understand what had happened and who was responsible.
After months of correspondence, TravelUp's position is that its ticket was issued correctly and that it cannot explain why the airline/ground handler could not initially recognise the ticket/payment status. It has told me to pursue the airline for that explanation and has declined my request for even the £25 booking fee to be refunded or any goodwill gesture.
The most disappointing part for me is the lack of ownership of the problem from the customer's perspective. I paid TravelUp, specifically checked that everything was in order before travelling, and when something went badly wrong at the airport I was ultimately left trying to establish myself whether the problem was with TravelUp, the ticketing system, the airline or the ground handler.
I appreciate that the underlying system failure may not ultimately have been TravelUp's fault. But if the agent cannot investigate and resolve a problem involving a ticket it sold me, and instead sends me back to the airline, I struggle to see the advantage of using an intermediary.
My lesson from this experience is simple: in future I would rather book directly with the airline, so that if something goes wrong there is one company responsible for resolving it.

Good: Competitive Pricing, Accepts AMEX at checkout unlike others, Sends e-Booking details soon after, Clear website, Doesn't bump up price at time of payment (MyTrip & GoToGate do!)
Bad: Customer service varies, hard to get direct access to communicate with them about changes and so on, online chat is useless abroad when needed and calling can take hours on hold.
I've had to book with TravelUp 5-6 times in the last 6 years and have had a consistently 3-star overall experience with them. It's great until the checkout or when the e-ticket is received, so long as you never have to communicate with them.
But if you do need anything, expect nothing except late responses and high charges for literally anything you could need. Fine it's a lower-cost travel booking website but for the cost of some of these trips, you could mistakenly expect better responses.

TravelUp failed to notify me that the airline had cancelled the flight more than two weeks before the flight date, and failed to rebook alternative flights.
This meant that I turned up to the airport expecting to fly and had to buy an alternative ticket at the airport.
They then messed around instead of refunding me so I got my money back via a credit card chargeback. During the chargeback investigation process they lied to the payment provider. However given my evidence, thankfully TravelUp lost. It would have been easier and cheaper for them to simply behave like a normal company.

DISASTROUS — MY BIGGEST MISTAKE WAS BOOKING THROUGH TRAVELUP.
People, BE WARNED. If anything goes wrong with your booking, getting help from TravelUp can be an absolute nightmare.
I am currently in Australia and need to change my return flight to the UK because the airline itself made changes to my journey. However, because I booked through TravelUp, the airline cannot make the necessary changes directly — I have been told that everything has to be dealt with through TravelUp.
And that’s where the nightmare begins.
Trying to contact TravelUp has been incredibly frustrating. Hours spent waiting on the phone, with no resolution. To make matters worse, if you are travelling overseas, calling them can require turning on international roaming from your original country/number, potentially adding another cost and complication just to get basic customer support.
Emails are no better. You can wait 2–3 days for a response, only to receive a generic, scripted reply quoting airline policies that doesn’t even address the actual question or problem you have raised.
I am now stuck between the airline and TravelUp, with the airline unable to help because the booking is controlled by the travel agent, while TravelUp is effectively impossible to reach when urgent assistance is needed.
This is not what you expect when paying for a travel service. When an airline makes a change to your itinerary, you should be able to get timely and meaningful assistance — not spend hours on hold and days waiting for irrelevant email responses.
Feeling completely helpless and stuck because of the lack of support.
My experience has been extremely frustrating, stressful and deeply disappointing.
BIG NO. NEVER AGAIN.
If you are considering booking through TravelUp, think very carefully about the level of support you may receive if something goes wrong with your booking.
Having selected my options, I had to decline added extras at least twice and avoid getting tricked into buying various insurances that I'd already said I didn't need. Check the total price at the end matches what you were quoted.

Browsing the airline’s app I noticed the flights Travel Up booked for me had been cancelled.
A week later I still had received no information about this from Travel Up. When I contacted them there was no immediate response but when the reply arrived it confirmed what I already knew - the flights had indeed been cancelled but Travel Up hadn’t passed on to me that information from the airline. I have been advised by the airline that they were unable to contact me to let me know about the cancellation because Travel Up hadn’t bothered to add my email to the booking.
In their response to me the member of staff claimed Travel Up had been unable to find any suitable alternatives. I would love to understand exactly what effort they made both with the cancelling airline and in the wider market because, after looking on my phone for less than five minutes I found similar flights, at almost exactly the same price and on the same dates (with a different airline). So I’m struggling to understand why an actual travel agent wasn’t able to do at least as well.
How difficult is it to keep customers up to date or to make an effort to act in a reasonable manner when something very foreseeable happens? It’s not that hard. I found Travel Up to be complacent and ineffective. I am still waiting for a refund despite having had to pay out for new flights. I will not ever be using Travel Up again.
It would have been far worse had I not checked myself because closer to the departure it may not have been possible for me to make other arrangements.
Your response is late, incomplete and unsatisfactory. You attempt to excuse poor performance by suggesting I don’t understand the booking process. The fact remains that you were notified of changes of which you failed to notify me. Despite the lengthy and verbose attempt to explain this away it remains the case. You clearly have little regard for your customers.
As of today you have failed to refund the amount I paid. It remains outstanding. If you were serious about making amends you could easily have made an exception and refunded the amount rather than hiding behind the orthodoxy of your business practices. Nothing is preventing you except and unwillingness to make things right.
