Disappointing

My friends and I have been looking for a house to rent in the past couple of weeks and I have never experienced such a rude customer service from an agency. One of my housemate has lost her job due to coronavirus however the rest of us have a high combined salary. When I phoned them they weren’t willing to help, in fact I was told off because my friend lost her job, how dare we wanting to rent a house?! And anyway our combined salary doesn’t matter! So my question here would be; why would you work for an agency if you have absolutely no people skills, patience and you are just so insensate?? Really disgusting behaviour, if you can, avoid this agency!!

Awful

Awful. I was so dissapointed at every point of my renting experience with Townends. They are always rude when I have phoned, no one is wanting to help you and they cannot put the phone down quick enough. It has been an absolute nightmare for myself and my partner, they were extremerly unhelpful and made a simple process very painful.

Avoid at all costs!

I wish I had of looked at these reviews before renting with Town ends, they are without a doubt the worst estate agents I have ever come across. They are incredibly rude, unhelpful and slow to reply to any issues/problems.

Worst service ever

Worst service ever! Poor responsiveness and communication, no understanding of the many issues I had in my flat.
At some point, I was left for more than 10 days without hot water at all and when I called them to inform that I will stop paying the rent until it's fixed, they replied that "in this case, they will cancel the planned work and I will stay without hot water".
When I had massive cracks appearing on the walls and ceiling, they sent a Salesman to look at the issue.
On various occasions, they had "lost" the pictures I had sent to them.
These are only a few examples of the numerous issues I had in this flat and the poor service I received from them and their partners.
Definitely the worst estate agent I came across in 20 years of renting (16 flats in 4 different countries, never had such a bad experience).

Avoid them

Been renting with other agencies, but the Staines branch of Townends is the single worst agency I seen so far. Slow response to maintenance request, very bad communication and the customer service is below zero.

Absolutely the worst agent ever in 20…LANDLORDS AVOID

Absolutely the worst agent ever in 20 years of renting out properties and deserve no stars. Landlords do NOT use them, their fully managed service is fully managed inefficiency and they do nothing to help. They have caused me a lot of stress by not paying bills when they should have as my managing agent. Please do not believe anything they say as they are not honourable. Words actually fail me as to how bad they are.

Great service from Thomas at Townends. Dead supportive in light of my solicitors doing nothing, making mistakes left right and centre

Awful with students. Please be careful, they're untrustworthy for student housing.

This was my first experience with estate agents. As a group of students looking for a property, I would have expected the process to be smooth and the estate agents to make it clear to us what was happening. This was not the case. First we arrived a viewing for the property where there was also another group waiting for us. The agent said this was a very popular property and that six beds were rare in this area. Everything she said was in a way that came across as pressuring and time sensitive. It was made clear that if we didn't come to the agents today, there was a high risk we would loose it. So we decided to go to the agent. I ended up being there alone because other members of the group had classes. I was in there for two and a half hours by myself. They kept asking me to get everyone to sign documents to send to the others and if they didn't we'd loose the house. Whilst sat on the sofa frantically trying to get the others to respond to the email, I was then told we had to pay £800 today to secure the house. We could only find half this amount in this time which they finally accepted. Frankly, I felt bullied to pay them as they kept threatening I would loose the house. After I had paid the money I was told I can leave! The next day the group decided that we did not want to go ahead with the house as they did not trust Townends. In fact, six beds are one of the most common houses left for students, with many still on the market. I rang to ask for the money back, that was apparently non-refundable and they bullied me, again, into keep the house. During this time, they bombarded guarantors with email after email. I then emailed in and said we did not want to continue with the house, giving them my bank details to refund the money after being advised there was no legal reason for them to keep it. I ended up getting my parents to ring them, who even tried to pull the same crap with my parents. Eventually they said they'll give me the money back and tried to blame me by saying that I was lucky to get the money back. Moral of this is do not trust Townends. They were bullies, which I am sure comes with the tight property market, but to make people feel like they have no other choice is unacceptable. Since then we have had other exchanges with different estate agents which have been pleasant and far less stressful. Just be careful.

Excellent Service from Townends Earlsfield!!

Diana and Ivana where really helpful in helping me find the ideal home to move into. They were great when it came to communicating and where always truthful to me when it came to giving me information about my renting options.
I would highly recommend renting from them for anyone who needs an honest agent (which are very hard to come by these days)

Townends High Street South Norwood The A Team

Townends High Street South Norwood. I want to say Ashleigh,Aaron & Alpha were a breath of fresh air after my first marketing of my property with a well known estate agent.
Professional, committed and were everything good not the norm you hear about estate agents.
I have no hestitation in recommending these The A team as I fondly named them. Thank you for all your help and support.

Worst agency! Avoid.

They just try to make as much money as possible. They don't stick to their word and they are unprofessional. Thank good I actually talked to my landlady and found out that non of the ridiculous things Townsend's tried to put on me we're a thing. (From rent increases, to refuse to do repair jobs, to extra oven cleaning fees when I moved out etc. etc.). When I was about to move in they messed up my handover date for the keys and told me wrong information about what will be in the flat (in regards to furniture) and when I was about to move out (as the property got sold) they showed up with potential buyers without notice and tried to enter my flat. I had to call the police.

terrible at sorting out problems.

Quite frankly this company is aweful. They rented us a flat that has had so many issues and problems iv lost count. It takes then absolutely months and months to get anything done. Quite often they send round some one to “quote the job” and then you don’t hear anything back about the issue, only if you push and push will they then do any repairs.

For example, I emailed three weeks ago about two radiators in the property not functioning. The main one being in the living room. Still they have not been replaced or fixed. My flat is currently is 6-7 degrees. It’s disgraceful and I’m pretty sure illegal.

They are nice enough on the phone and email you back but but don’t expect any results when it comes to sorting out problems because all they are interested in is taking the rent. No doubt we will not see our deposit back Either even though Iv done everything in my power to help the issues.

Townends very Poor communication the worst agent ever

Had talked to many real estate agents never have communication problems.

Just call Townends Putney the woman who answered phone was so wasting time she decided to get my details first rather than listening what I want and her attitude was so bad. The manager David was unhelpfully as well.

Very rude people. After bad experience I found this review website about this agent no wonder why I have this bad experience!

Not sure how they could do a worse job

Rented as a tenant through Townends Earlsfield for almost 8 years. The staff consistently gave incorrect information and passed us from one contact to another. During my notice period, they tried to say I was tied into to a contract for an extra 6 months, purely because the person in charge of our property hadn’t read the contract. The only way I managed to get decent information was sourcing it myself from citizens advice and challenging them, at which point they admitted they hadn’t read the actual contract. Surely that’s property 101! If the staff aren’t trained no wonder their service is so terrible. My former landlord has since changed agencies due to their incompetence.

Helpful and knowledgeable Estate Agents

When looking to sell my fathers run down large terrace house I turned to Townend for help and advise. Martin called at a prearranged time and when he was running slightly late the office called me to apologise and tell me the time he would arrive. Martin advised on putting the property up for auction which would save on selling fees. Townend arranged everything with the auctioneers whom also contacted me. The property was sold within a week of it going up. The auction company were amazing. They kept me informed of all developments more than the solicitors, Townends kept in contact and were there for me on the end of a phone to advise with the mountain of questions a queries I had. I can not fault the sale or any aspect of the service at... 100% happy customer thank you Townend Estate agents for making a harrowing time a lot easier

Untrustworthy - landlords be aware

When they are looking for a tenant they are great. The minute they take your money they are awful. They don’t tell tenants what they are renting and even say it’s not their job so for £300 admin they don’t do a thing and then leave it up to to me the landlord to sort out their mess and leave you with a tenant from hell all because they did not offer the tenant any support. Will they help NO unless I give them more money to manage my property. Now having to seek legal advice. If you are a landlord please be aware of how untrustworthy this agent is.
