More Than a Farm - A Magical Experience
My husband surprised me with the llama forest walk at Topstall Farm for my birthday, and I had no idea how much I'd love it...I just assumed. ;)
We drove a bit under 2 hours from Seattle, and we will do it again without thinking twice.
Marla and her daughter, Olivia, made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. You can tell this isn't just a business to Marla—it's her passion. She shared her deep knowledge about the llamas, alpacas, and the farm, but what stood out most was how she treats the animals. They're calm, curious, relaxed and completely trusting. It 's obvious they're loved and exceptionally well cared for.
The walk through the verdant forest was incredible. The trail is so lush and green with the tree canopy. It reminded me of Olympic National Park. About halfway through, the llamas stop to graze while everyone takes a few minutes to soak in the surroundings. It was peaceful, quiet, and exactly the kind of reset I didn't realize I needed.
I also loved hearing Marla's story about leaving corporate America to build this farm. Following a dream like that takes courage, and it's clear how much heart and hard work have gone into creating this place.
Before we left, we stopped in the farm shop. Marla has the alpacas' fleece processed and has curated a tasteful and elevated offering of products made from it—blankets, socks, and other gifts that are actually things you'd want to take home. Nothing felt touristy or gimmicky.
My husband and I are always looking for unique experiences to share with friends and family when they visit us in Seattle, and Topstall Farm has moved to the top of that list. I'll be recommending it every chance I get, and we'll definitely be back ourselves. It feels good to make both 2-legged and 4-legged friends, and also know the cost of admission is supporting a farm we can proudly stand behind.
Thank you, Marla and Olivia, for sharing your beautiful farm with us. I hope Topstall Farm continues to grow and thrive. The kindness and respect you show your animals is something you can genuinely feel, and it made the whole experience that much more special. We got back in the car and drove away with huge smiles on our faces. Until next time!
