I told rep I wanted FREE shipping at start of conversersation, after I ordered SF candy(2 boxes) told me total was $90 some, ask why, he had included shipping. I told him free shipping & he said I have other people waiting on the line, very RUDE, you need to improve your customer service big time, in catalog you act like you care about us, just like everybody else all about profit. Don't know if I"ll order from you again. Give me job answering phone, you won't have any complaints.
FedEx is their shipper
I like the quality of the products that I have purchased. The problem is that they use FedEx as their shipper. Was to receive an item (a gift) on a Wednesday now it will be another week and perhaps longer because FedEx keeps delaying delivery. Companies need to stop using FedEx as that is a primary reason for dissatisfaction.
Unethical and terrible customer service
As other users have noted, the customer service and return policy for this store is absolutely horrible! I purchased a three pack of ladies briefs for $29 and change. I was charged 7.95 for shipping. OK, fine. I needed to return these items and I sent them from the post office, NOT using their label which they said would be another $7.95. I thought I could ship it cheaper. As it happens, I could not. Imagine my surprise when I received my refund information and saw that they had deducted 7.95 yet again from the refund. I wrote to them and explained that I did not use their shipping label, I paid for it myself. They will not take this additional 7.95 off without my shipping receipt. I threw away the receipt when I received acknowledgment that the item had reached them. So my final numbers are these: initial purchase = $40.70. Refund amount = $23.80. I am furious.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE!! They unethical practice when it comes to certain customers. I ordered a Orton Brothers Barn Coat Order #608027. The coat is a Valentines gift for my husband. The transaction went through as expected BUT THE ORDER WAS PLACED ON HOLD. When I followed up, I was informed that I had ordered and returned a similar coat OVER A YEAR AGO. When I explained my order, rather then RELEASING THE ORDER, I was told that the information would be given to E. Patrick. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Obviously, customer service does not like my name as WHY WOULD SOMEONE THAT MADE A PURCHASE OVER A YEAR AGO and returned the item within the return period be required to justify their purchase? I feel personally discriminated against! The explanation given is that they wanted to prevent fraud! Really?? So someone makes a purchase more then a year ago of a similar item should be so scrutinized!! And the order is still NOT RELEASED - DAYS LATER! I was given a barn coat as a gift for XMAS and will be returning it if still within the return window. And GUESS WHAT - I DON'T CARE IF I AM ON THEIR "NAUGHTY LIST - 2 YEARS FROM NOW! AS I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANYTHING MORE FROM THEM. LLBEAN, ORVIS, HUCKLEBERRY HERE I COME!

My cuddly warm nighties and birthday cake
Last year my husband bought me two flannel night gowns. I returned one as it had no pockets and replaced it with the same light blue with kittens design as the one I kept before. All of this was done by my husband…they were very nice to him and my new nightie came quickly. Also, he bought me my favorite cake , which is fruit cake, for my birthday, as long as he did not have to eat any. I loved it so much that it was my birthday cake again this year! The cakes were wonderful!

Outstanding chocolates.
I purchased online 10 boxes of Butler's Chocolates as Christmas gifts. I wanted to know the quality of what I sent so I bought a box for myself. I wasn't disappointed. Absolutely delicious high quality chocolates. I sent 3 boxes to my Florida address and was concerned about them melting enroute but they arrived in perfect condition. However, I would be leary of sending them after April. I'm so impressed by these lovely chocolates I decided to send them every Christmas.
Horrible
Placed an order online. When I didn't get a confirmation I checked the order again. The pic showed me getting a different color from what I ordered. When I corrected it another item was ordered. I immediately called customer service. I was met with attitude and was told I couldn't cancel one of the orders. Avoid VCS
NOT HONEST
I placed an order last August. It was delivered to the wrong house. They sent again, but I had to go to AMEX to pick it up. Then 1st delivery was found. I called and Vermont told me I HAD to return it to them. Drove back to AMEX, stood in line and returned. VCS thanked me and said I'd get free shipping on my next order for my trouble. Went to place order yesterday, but was refused free shipping. That's what I get for being honest and doing the right thing. Lost a customer over $11.
Prices are high; Excellent customer service
Prices are high but I have never had a bad experience with The Vermont Country Store in over 30 years as a customer. All orders have arrived promptly, any returns have been refunded quickly and their customer service is outstanding. I have purchased a few things that were not up to par and they were quick to remedy the situation.

Placed an online order for a friends birthday gift. Item was in stock and estimated delivery time was sufficient to arrive on time.
Well.. I noticed that the payment didn’t clear when the day was getting close.
I checked my email for any updates. Nothing. Several times. No communication.
Finally I checked the status of my order only to find out that my order had been cancelled. Now I’m stuck without a gift for my friend, and have zero confidence with this merchant.
I was going to buy more of this item for Christmas gifts. But they have now lost my business forever.
I understand stuff happens but a little communication goes a long way.

Placed an order and after checking out noticed I ordered the Wrong color. Called them not more than 5 minutes after I placed the order to try to change the color and they said it couldn't be done.
They didn't keep their word and charged a return fee.
BEFORE I MADE MY PURCHASE, I specifically asked the customer service representative if I exchange the item for a different size if there would be shipping charges to return the item. I was told no, not with an exchange. After ordering and recieving the item, I ordered a different size without first returning the initial order to make sure the smaller size would fit. When I called to return the larger size, I was told I already received a discount for free shipping. I said, "That is the current special you are offering on an initial order; it has nothing to do with the return. I said, You can't take away the special to cover the return, otherwise, it's not a special." He wasn't, I was paying $7.95 for a label fee, it wasn't return shipping. I said, And what is a label fee (knowing full well he was gaslighting)?" He said it's like if you buy stamps at the Post Office. I said, "And what are the stamps for? SHIPPING!" This company is the most ignorant company as it concerns customer service. I will never buy from them again. What an amazing person that customer service agent was! If he worked for me, he'd be reprimanded for insulting the customer as he did and given a warning about his job position. ONE MORE THING: The CS Rep said he would escalate it to his supervisor. I never received a call. Way to follow through VCS. I will never buy from Vermont Country Store again.
Products are terrible
Products are terrible. I ordered Blue Grass cologne, an old favorite of mine, it must have been sitting on a shelf since the year it was made. So water downed and no scent. Cookies I ordered had no taste. I bought Cinnamon Stars. Expensive for just a few in a small box. I am done with this place forever! They're awful!!
The Vermont country store return firedrill
The Vermont country store return process is the reason we'll never buy from them again. The clothing order came with no return shipping label (as offered by nearly every other on line retailer) or instructions other than going to the website to download a QR code or shipping label. I d downloaded a FedEx QR code which FedEx was to scan to print my label. The FedEx employee (at the office I had to drive to) said the code was "not valid". I called Vermont Country Store customer service where I was initially put on hold and then told everyone was busy and I'd get a call back. Avoid at all costs.

Rude and Arrogant Service!
I placed an order with this store from overseas. The next day, the store cancels my order and bans me because they suspect fraud!! I asked the operator to connect me to the person in-charge, but they refused to talk to me or give me any explanation. Literally banning me!!! When I pressed, the woman became agitated and rude.
You would think for a business that's been around for about 80 years, they would understand customer service!!

Browser issues = 45 minutes to place an order
Tried to a website order using Firefox browser but couldn't complete my transaction! Went to their online 'Help' people who said Vermont Country Store's payment site only uses Chrome and Microsoft browsers - then the 'Help' person froze me from responding and left the chat without notifying me that he'd left. I actually had to phone their customer service line to place my order! So instead of spending five minutes placing an order I was diddling around with this outfit for over 45 minutes. To her credit, the person I spoke with to place my order was great. I've been a VCS customer for years - but this will be my last order until they bring their online ordering into the current century.
Horrible quality, even worse customer service
Ordered the $ 140.00 sheets - crisp air, but the pillow case fell apart after 12 uses. Called customer service, and they said there's nothing they can do; it's wear and tear. They used cheap material and wouldn't even help me out, despite me telling them I had purchased three sets in total. That's almost $500.00 in sheet sets!!! Horrible quality, horrible customer service. They don't back the items they sell. they need to stick to candy.
