Nightmare!

Nightmare!
On the 26th August 2025 my Wife and I having heard amazing claims on the Radio about Top Quality cars at reasonable prices went to Trade Centre Wales at Abercynon. We were greeted by a pleasant young man and was invited to look around, upon browsing the cars in stock it became obvious that all of the cars that were advertised on the Radio were nowhere to be seen, if they ever existed in the first place. Undeterred by this we decided to have a good look round and see if anything stood out. We found a 2018 Blue Ford Ecosport and decided it was for us, we negotiated the price down a bit due to some marks on the bodywork and went inside to do the paperwork. Then the big sell started, they pushed and pushed for us to take out an extended warranty, claiming everything that could go wrong would be covered and could we please leave a 5 star review on Trustpilot straight away. We relented and agreed and signed on the dotted line after paying £3200 deposit and entering into a finance agreement for the rest, working out as £13,000 over the five years. We drove away happy, oh how this would change.
The first time I turned the headlights on, neither of them worked and within 2 weeks of having the car had to take it back to TCW’s service department, where they had to change both headlight units……I thought to myself, how on earth did it pass the 99 point check when the lights were faulty. Over the next 9 months we had relatively little trouble apart from the odd rattle here and there and the tyre pressure light continually coming on.
On June 17th this year after only doing 6000 miles in a car that cost us a considerable sum of money, everything went wrong. Whilst driving home from a trip without warning the Engine Oil Pressure Low warning light came on and the car just died. Unable to get to a safe place on a major road with no hard shoulder, we were left stranded halfway in the carriageway and immediately exited the vehicle and found a point of safety. We contacted the police and they said someone would be with us ASAP. Unsure which recovering company was part of the extended warranty we tried to find TCW’s number online but we had no internet connection. After getting a family member to find the number we contacted TCW and they said we were with the AA, after explaining our predicament, stranded in a dangerous place with no internet, we asked if the person at TCW could find the AA number for us, they said NO and put the phone down. We were gobsmacked!!!
We eventually after more phone calls got the AA information and arranged for them to come and assist us. The Highways Agency arrived and towed the car 1/4 mile to a lay-by and made sure we were safe. Upon arrival and following a short investigation the AA man told us that the problem was most likely a problem with the Wet Belt and that these cars were notorious for such problems. After an AA relay we managed to get the car towed home to South Wales and whilst this took place we managed to arrange with the warranty company an appointment for the car to be looked at by one of their recommended garages but not till 8 days later and no offer of a courtesy car. I had to rely on work colleagues to give me lifts into work, at considerable inconvenience to them. We then had to arrange for the AA to get the car to the garage for us on 25th June, resulting in myself and my wife having to take the day off work.
After closer inspection of the car the garage said it was definitely a problem with the Wet Belt and the warranty company had informed them it was not covered by our supposedly all singing and dancing warranty and the cost to replace the engine would be almost £7500. We contacted TCW and argued that no way a car costing as much as it did should be breaking down in such a catastrophic manner after 9 months and only 6000 miles. After weeks of phone calls to TCW, the warranty company and our finance company with no luck and no light at the end of the tunnel causing huge stress to myself and my wife, we finally arranged for Scotia and independent company to come and look at the car and assess the damage and the cause of the breakdown. This cost us an additional £225 on top of the cost of the original garage to inspect the vehicle and and the cost to recover the car again from the garage to a different location as they could no longer have the car at their premises.
5 weeks after the breakdown the independent inspection took place and following the subsequent report it was found that the Wet Belt was intact and because of the Belt breaking down it had caused oil starvation to the engine and caused a catastrophic engine failure and that TCW were liable after selling us a car without satisfactory durability. So now it’s a battle with TCW to get them to fix the car to a standard satisfactory to us, so the stress and upset continues.

Countless of calls

I was just having a look at offers online, next thing i know im being bombarded with countless of calls, multiple times a day. I’d block one number and they’d call me on another regardless of me telling them I’m no longer interested. If you can, don’t put your phone number on any of their websites

If i could give minus stars I would

I can say without any hyperbole or exaggeration, they worse level of customer service i have received from any company in the UK.

Having dealt with both neath and abercynon over the last month with multiple issues, the lack of customer service i have had is scandalous leaving me out of pocket, with no car for 18 days and counting resulting in serious distress for my family and disabled son.

If you are considering buying a car, and reading this don't.

BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK

BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK! ⚠️
The amount of cars they sell that are below par is unreal! After buying 2 cars which were fine we trusted Trade Centre Coventry branch again with the third one. Unfortunately we are now left with a vehicle that cannot be driven, We cannot afford the repair bill of 3.5k or the ongoing finance payments after a DSG gearbox failure within 4 months of purchase. Both Trade Centre and the finance company have been less than helpful and refused to allow rejection of the vehicle under the consumer rights act. They did not check the auto gear oil in the 99 point inspection, which is proven to directly cause mechatronic failures and that inspection isn’t worth the paper it’s written on anyway! They then appointed and paid for an ‘independent’ inspection (and I use that term loosely!) which went in their favour conveniently! This whole situation has taken months of chasing as well and getting nowhere, the after sales service is shocking! Fault happened in February 2026 and the outcome wasn’t received until July! The car is now about to be repossessed by the finance company and we will still be left over 12k out of pocket plus the repair costs!! We now have a complaint with the Finacial Ombudsman and we feel incredibly let down by Trade Centre.
Please do your research before buying a car from here. We’re part of a rapidly growing number of consumers that are in this position or even worse off!
