Why have we chosen to do this?

TrustPilot is dependent upon an unethical scheme to trap businesses into paying them money. Generally speaking, mostly upset customers will seek out a platform like TrustPilot. This then leads to overwhelmingly negative reviews for a particular website. TrustPilot then calls the business and requests to be paid for “help” to increase their TrustPilot score.

What this means is that most businesses with high TrustPilot scores have probably paid TrustPilot to solicit reviews. We believe that this is unethical on both ends. The initial low score is a misleading trap that forces business to pay to get out of it. The businesses that do pay are then buying positive reviews.

We serve tens of thousands of customers per year, and we believe the small number of reviews on TrustPilot are not representative of the experiences of the vast majority of our customers. Unfortunately, we are not willing to pay the troll in order to make our TrustPilot score reflect that.

I have a real issue: how can I get it resolved?

Our hope is that you will first contact us through our website. We have a customer service team that will do their best to resolve the issue for you.

If you are still unsatisfied, and would prefer third-party dispute resolution, we would suggest using the Better Business Bureau. They take a far more fair and ethical approach to dispute mediation when compared to schemes like TrustPilot.

Sold to them multiple times-

Man I love this company for selling books back to. I've sold to them twice over the past 2 years (a total of 3 textbooks) and they've always paid promptly and in full, which was great because 2 of them were kind of obscure and hard to sell on my campus. Really satisfied and I will definitely be back again!

Good experience!

I am not sure why there are so many bad reviews... people are probably getting paid less due to the condition of their books. I gave Textbook Maniac one textbook and a textbook code (both in great condition) and they paid me what was promised fully in less than two weeks. They responded to my emails quickly too, always in less than 24 hours!! I would recommend them.

They advertise that they pay within 5 days of receiving a book. They received my book 24 days ago and not a word from them!!!!!! Total Fraud!

Avoid selling your books here

Had to send several messages, including threats just to receive a reply. Bad customer service, also extremely slow processing. I am still waiting for my payment after over three weeks.

Edit: The reply from this business asserts that any positive review published on TrustPilot is “bought”. My reviews are honest, I will write the exact same thing whether it’s through Yelp, here, or elsewhere. You give poor service, you receive bad feedback. You give great service, you receive positive feedback. Simple as that. They finally paid me, but my review is final. Wow, how fast they replied to a bad review, when they couldn’t reply for days to their customer!

Quick, easy, and true to quote.

This website was true to quote and was very easy to use. It was quick and efficient and I had no problems at all selling my physics textbook to them. They offered more than a lot of other buyback websites as well. I will defiantly be using textbook maniac again.

Is this site ran by a kid !???

If I could do zero stars I would ! All jokes aside I do not recommend sending your books here.
Communication is trash!

I sent my books off ( I sent them off the same day I printed off the shipping label since you have 7 days to send )

Took a month to get a response that they received it , 2 weeks before the response they said they didn’t receive my package

( I live in South Carolina ;the book had to be shipped to Alabama I also paid for the tracking # so I can see if it arrived )

Once they finally came to their senses they told me they’ll be sending my payment through PayPal ! It’s been a week . Still waiting

Thank God I’m not broke but it’s the principle of the situation

If I could leave zero stars I would

If I could leave zero stars I would. This place is awful. They offered me $27 for a college textbook. After no communication for two weeks, they finally said they were not giving me ANY money. Nor would they return my book. They said it was fraudulent in some way. It was a college textbook sent to me by my school! If you weren't going to honor your offer, you should at least send my property back to me. Ripoff!
Beware of this scam book company. The only accurate part of their title is MANIAC. Avoid dealing with these scammers.

Terrible service

Terrible service. Never replies to emails. Cheated me out of the money. I was supposed to receive $35, and they gave me $8, when the email clearly stated they would offer me $35. Will never do this again, and will NEVER recommend to anyone. I’m a college student who doesn’t have much, and yet they steal money from me that the book is clearly worth.

Don’t trust textbook maniac!!

Use any other book buyback program. Seriously, do not use them. This company is not honest with its patrons. Like someone else on this review board, they said they only received half of the books I sent them even though I sent them in the same box (odd, and even more odd that it happened to more than one person). They blamed the whole thing on USPS. When I contacted USPS they had a picture of the box in the same condition that I sent it being delivered. Something isn’t right here, and they don’t seem to care about their patrons experiences, they are more interested in convincing ppl that they are not stealing and nothing questionable happened on their watch. Life is too short, hold on to your books or use someone else.

I am disgusted.

Absolute! Worst! This Site is very very bad please don't do business with them if you respect yourself or even if you don't, just don't do business with this site please.

I gave them brand new books and they took half of them and made me pay shipping for the rest they decided they didn't want anymore or else they will "recycle" them. this was stated beforehand but I guess I didn't notice it so I had to agree.

But the wait is SOOO LONG It has been over a month and I have not received my payment yet and when I called them to get it processed in the first place (which took forever) it sounded like some students were handling the calls and requests.

I never give bad reviews because I find that dealing with companies requires patience and understanding you are not the only person on earth. but I have dealt with many buyback companies (textbook rush, Chegg, books run) and I have never witnessed this kind of behavior. I constantly felt like I was getting scammed. and when I spoke over the phone with students I felt like I was begging for them to do their job. I will never sell my books to this black hole of horribleness again.

If you are looking for a good site use textbook rush. They are less picky and they are much quicker. I sent a book to them during this mess and I finalized everything while still waiting for these people to give me some feedback.

POOR COMMUNICATION

I shipped my book almost 3 weeks ago. I have not received any feedback concerning the status of the book. I chose the check option, because I don’t have paypal. I asked when the check would be here and still haven’t gotten a response. Not saying this is a bad company, but if we had better communication it would be a lot better. If anything changes I will update my review.

Works for me

I was cautious about this place due to reviews, but they gave me the highest offers for my books. Well, I followed the directions, I had good conditioned books, and I had a pleasant experience. From the day that I shipped my books to the day I got paid was 1 week, which is even faster than their estimated time. I did reach out for a question during the process and never got a response. But, that’s fine because I got paid what I was told I’d be paid. Worked fine for me.

Terrible company

Terrible company. They want to blame issues on the customer or the post office and say that something must have happened "during shipment". Should have read reviews first. Paid almost $300 for books and they were in brand new condition. They were packaged together and secure. Yet when they were delivered, they were missing 3 of the 5 books somehow. Tell me how 3 books fall out of the same package and 2 stay secure for delivery? Thats right, it doesn't happen. They make money ripping people off just like every other review says. I'm sure they'll blame this on the post office too. Going to file a complaint with the BBB as well. Do NOT use this company!

CROOKS. THIEVES. Unbelievable.

CROOKS.

First of all, I had to post a review on here in order for this company to return my correspondence about getting my book back. I tried for weeks, then they responded the same day when this information became public. When I left a poor review, they publically assured me this was being handled and that my book would be mailed back to me promptly. I was right to not believe it until I saw--THEY MAILED ME THE WRONG BOOK! Sure, same ISBN--BUT THIS BOOK IS IN POOR AND DAMAGED CONDITION. THIS IS NOT MY BOOK.

DO NOT SELL TO THESE PEOPLE!!! THEY WILL STEAL IN FAVOR OF THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.

Most professional and well managed of all buyback companies!

I have been selling books to Textbook Maniac off and on for over a year and they are the best managed, most professional of all the buyback companies. They process buyback shipments quickly (usually within 3 days of receiving books) and sometimes pay the next day! Every time I have had reason to contact Textbook Maniac someone has responded within 1-2 hours with a satisfactory answer to my question or a more than acceptable solution to whatever it is that I need resolved. THIS COMPANY IS CONSISTANT IN THEIR OPERATIONS AND IN THEIR INTERACTIONS WITH ME!

I just sent them a buyback on 12/3 and tracked it and said it would be delivered to them today. Got an alert that said at 2:48pm that said "delivery attempted- no access to delivery location". I so wish I would have checked the reviews before I sent out my buyback I got a strong feeling I'm not going to get my money. What business isn't available during business hours? Not to mention I just discovered there is no way to contact Textbook Maniac about. Guess I'll sit on my hands and hope that dont take advantage of me how I'm predicting. Omg

I should have read reviews first

I should have read reviews first. Sent book in. Today I received my Package RTS, saying postage was owed and received refused. Oh, and guess what? Package was ripped open and book was taken out! Filler was in but no book.

Let's entertain the idea for a second that Textbook Maniac didn't take the book (doubtful)...there's still the problem of them not giving enough for postage and refusing to pay the difference once it arrived.

This whole thing screams scam. Avoid at all costs.

Lisa, I am sorry about this bad experience, but as you saw from what the Post Office asked for, the reason your book was sent back was because of Postage Due (not because we refused it), and it looks like your book fell out during transit (unfortunately, this happens more often than we would like , which is why we prefer using UPS or FedEx).
