I am not a fan

I am not a fan. I seem to run into non-stop issues and when I call to request assistance, I always have had a poor experience. I now check the carrier of a card to ensure that it is not owned by Synchrony Bank to avoid interactions as much as possible.

I opened a credit card with this bank…

I opened a credit card with this bank at TJ Maxx then about a month later I went to go pay off the card but wasn’t able to pay at the register I was hit with too late fee charges that came out to $100 and on top of that when dealing with their customer service trying to pay it off, they were more concerned with getting my information rather than helping me cancel overall a very poor experience. I recommend you stay away from opening any cards here.

Synchrony bank is the worst

Synchrony bank is the worst. They lower your credit limit so close to your limit that it really hurts your credit score and they do this without notify you. Try to call and talk to them you get someone in a foreign country and all you get is excuses. You try to talk with the company whom your credit card is with and they give you back to Synchrony. This is a mafia style run bank with the main purpose of screwing its customers. They don't care about you. Don't get involved with them

Synchrony is a SCAM!!!

Synchrony is a SCAM!!!! Be WARNED!! They are stalking from people in a daylight! Three of my accounts were closed without notice. I never failed to pay my balance not once, but they closed and even though they’re still taking my money on Auto pay, they have reinstated the original balance of & more. I was close to paying off balances, but they closed my account and locked my access.

My credit score abs reputation has been ruined by these scams. Be careful what they offer in the stores , begging you almost to open an account,…the intention is for them to make money off of your ignorance. They should be BANNED FROM OPERATING BUSINESS!!!

Ten times more indifferent than any other major credit card

While with my Son on his business trip in Pennsyvania, I called the Lowes back in Lansing Michigan where I live. Chose a pellet grill, expensive enough that a 5% reduction for using my CC was worthwhile. Surprised to find Synchrony had closed my account w/o notice because I "wasn't using it enough". Tried to apply online and OMG the hoops they expect you to jump through!! including a facial scan. Their frigging App never could scan my bearded face and when I said I was in Allentown, my app was summarily denied. Got a letter a week later asking me to contact them to finish the application. Told their rep I wasn't interested.

Stay far away from Synchrony Bank

Incredibly horrible bank to deal with as a retail consumer. They take drastic actions such as closing accounts with no warning or looking into issues. This can and does have a drastic effect on your credit scores. Do not use this bank if you value your lifetime achievements in cultivating a great credit rating. I wish I had checked their reviews earlier. They are known for it and it's common knowledge. They have incredibly horrible reviews.

Dear Synchrony Bank is $#!+

Credit is extended by Synchrony Bank, which is located at 170 Election Road, Suite 125, Draper, UT

To whom it may concern, please reconsider before opening a new PayPal Credit account with #synchrony @synchronybank if you value time, sanity & fico.

The experience with Synchrony Bank PayPal Credit has easily been the worst from a objective point of view. This bank arbitrarily lowered the line of credit multiple times, although the credit account was in good standing to that point. This didn't end the world, just a bit of wasted time after multiple occurrences.

The credit line was dropped while PayPal subsequently chose to charge the incorrect account, at the wrong bank. This is when PayPal was not set to use that bank account by default, and was never selected to be used. In fact, the PayPal Credit account was previously paid with a 20+ year old bank account which was predominately used for the PayPal Credit account in question.

Due to this glitch that appears to have been on the side of Synchrony and/or PayPal, the bank then applied a "return charge fee" for this systematic error. To be clear, I never chose the account that was selected when attempting to pay the PayPal Credit account. This whole process then repeated again only one week later, and that secondary "return charge fee" was also refunded in "the name of good customer service". Now this is more of an insult, or a joke.

Synchrony subsequently closed the PayPal Credit account entirely, after the line of credit was lowered, and stated this was due to the "return charge fee", which both had been refunded. Synchrony advised contacting PayPal to get them to furnish some form of proof, in which PayPal refused to provide. Mind you, this is because I had n say in which account was charged in these two occasions and the customer support was less than helpful.

Further, I've had multiple accounts with Synchrony, among many other groups and none of which have ever had such an issue before. This includes a PayPal Mastercard, also provided by the same Synchrony Bank which is still in good standing today. Synchrony & PayPal both point the finger at the other while neither offer any real assistance. Well I'm now offering you the finger. Thanks.

Was excellent as GE then took a dive

Was excellent as GE then took a dive! Pay attention-the no interest if paid in 9 or 12 months (Discount Tire, Care Credit, Matress Firm) will first offer a credit limit very close to the purchase price of your goods. This means the ratio of your use of credit to available credit limit is 80% or so which kills the credit score (should always be below 30% so request a much higher limit when opening the account). Next, Synchrony secretly closes the account once paid. No notice. No opportunity to use card to keep it open. This results in 2 issues: your credit ratio suddenly drops causing the credit score to drop. Then when you return to the dealer or vet, the card doesn't work, "showing expired," and you have to reapply which is another credit hit (hard pulls or opening more than 2 accounts a year really hurt and don't go off the credit report for 4 years). The entire business model screws the consumer. If you're buying a house, a car, or applying for any other credit within the same year, don't use this firm. No interest purchases are only good when the credit rating is 800+ and all payments are on time. Irritating that there is no corporate email to complain to them...since AI shows thousands of pissed off customers made about secretly closed accounts...just another bad greedy bank.

Not a very good card account to carry to help build credit. However easy to attain

I have about 4 synchrony accounts with synchrony Credit Services. They raise my credit limit then they lower it. Thus lowering my credit score, The reason why your credit score will drop is because when you have a granted $1,200 credit limit and you have a balance of $325 to $350 and you're paying it consistently every month, they decide to lower your credit limit to $500. Then your credit utilization is trashed because of this. If you have accounts with this bank no matter how high your credit limit is only. Please carry the amount of a pack of bubble gum on the account so they cannot close it, And even if they do close it, it's probably a blessing. But also remember whether you voluntary close the account or they close the account. It always is a negative mark on your credit score. If you're reading these reviews, please think twice before getting an account with synchrony.

Synchrony…No trust

My Sam's credit is through Synchrony Bank. Synchrony let me know they locked my card on 5/1/26 because a scammer in NJ bought hundred of sushi in 2 restaurants. I live in MD and I hate sushi. I couldn't use my card but Synchrony let these scammers charged hundreds of dollars. My balance was $135 but now is over $400. They didn't like my license picture so I sent copies of license, electric & water bills 10 days ago but haven't been contacted by fraud dept in FL. I've called 3 times. I will retain a lawyer if my account isn't cleared.

DO NOT USE!!!
I should have looked at the reviews.
I needed it for my pet snakes vet bills and all i got was a bad credit score.
I payed on the first of the month but they told me that i had missed a payment.
Since then we have had nothing but problems.
I tried to contact customer service multiple times but its just a robot on the other line and there is no option to try and talk to a live agent who is not on text.
They steal your money and give you a bad credit score. Im serious. Stay away from this!

Synchrony Bank and City Furniture both…

Synchrony Bank and City Furniture both provide a horrible experience for me. I purchased a TV Stand from city furniture that was going to be financed by synchrony. After having several run in with city furniture about all of (their Illegal Policies)I decided not to complete the purchase of the tv stand and did not accept delivery of the tv stand. City is harassing me to complete the transaction and accept delivery, I said no I changed my mind I don’t want your goods or anything else from you. Well city refused to accept that. So I turned to social media. Synchrony is also refusing to accept that the the transaction was cancelled when I refused to complete the purchase and accept delivery of the item. Synchrony continues to bill me for an item that was never delivered and that I had cancelled. My going to social media has resulted in city insisting that I complete and accept the item as a resolution, as much as 6 phone call a day to force to comply. I am a 70 year old Cancer Patient at Orlando Health. This right here is to much.

Absolutely the worst card on earth

Absolutely the worst card on earth, I was basically forced to open in by triple A to pay for my car, their car care credit line, and even though I have been making payments they and am not delinquent they are on my credit report as being in collection. When I call their customer line all they say is oh I don't know why it's showing up that way we can send them a letter, maybe you should call them. Why is it showing up that way in the first place? And then without notification they lower my limit on the card which is also negatively affecting my credit score. Terrible company Terrible practices. As soon as I pay off the balance I am canceling this card.

Predatory Lender

I looked at my statement today and just realized that they have increased my rate to 39.99%. Yep, you heard that right, forty percent, 40% for a TJMaxx credit card, TJMaxx!!! When I called, the reason for the increase... "inflation, it costs more to do business". The Rep could not tell me what business cost equated to a20% increase, and she could not answer. I will never spend another dime with this creditor! BTW, I have a very good credit score, which is why she didn't cite my credit score as the driving force behind the increase.

Utter joke of a company.

What a joke of a company. My credit isn't fantastic, but it's far from bad. I have approximately 20K in unsecured credit in my name, and a lot of it is through Capital One. I had multiple cards with Synchrony, all with high limits - CareCredit (7K), Ashley card (5K), Mattress Firm card (5K), an automobile repair card (2.5K), and a personal normal credit card (2K). Within the span of a month, and with zero warning or insight, Synchrony decided to close EVERY SINGLE line of credit but my mattress firm, and it was dropped to $250. I went from over 15K to $250 for literally no reason. My score didn't drop, and was actually getting better each month. This completely screwed up my credit age, and while it didn't impact utilization as I don't carry balances, this is an abosolute joke. Just go with Capital One - at least they won't just destroy progress you've spent years making. I can't stress enough how comical this company is, and even if I'm offered the best card in the world, if it's through Synchrony, I'll never apply for it. Stay FAR away from these clowns in a trenchcoat cosplaying as a company.

Synchrony The Antique Bank

If you are looking for a bank that has easy access to your money and values you as a client Synchrony Bank is probably not a good choice.

Bought a car on Monday and the dealership wanted to be paid by check.
Monday initiated an external transfer to Chase so that I could write a check.
Transaction failed due to daily limit restrictions. Initiated another transaction for the daily limit amount.
On Tuesday the Monday transaction shows deducted from the account so initiated another external transfer for the remaining balance. All looked good – no errors
Wednesday the remaining balance transfer does not appear so call Synchrony – speak to 2 different representatives and advised that until 1 transaction clears you cannot initiate another transaction.
Thursday the initial transaction finally shows up at Chase. A week WOW. Everyone wants to wait a week for the partial amount.

Synchrony…where was my money for 48 hours? Are you floating money? When I do an external transfer from Chase to Synchrony the money is always there the next business day which is what I would expect in 2026 as this is a well-established account on both sides.

Because in good faith I cannot ask the dealership to wait for 2 weeks to take delivery on the vehicle I was forced to have to pay for a wire transfer. Perfect time to also close the account permanently. Issue resolved! The rep could have cared less. Surprised but not surprised. It is not 1930 Synchrony….do better!

Stay away from these people

As evidenced by the 676 1-star Trustpilot reviews and the 8,700 (that's right, read it again) BBB complaints, it's apparent that Synchrony has a serious customer service problem. Obviously, they don't care. They, in their infinite wisdom, rejected me for a measly credit card, despite the fact that I have an 830 credit score and have paid all of my bills on time and in full for the last 40 years. After reading all of these negative reviews, I guess I should be glad I won't have to deal with them.

Synchrony Bank is predatory and unethical

Synchrony Bank’s business model feels predatory and unethical. They target people in hospitals and veterinary offices when individuals are under emotional distress and not in a position to fully evaluate the financial terms.

I used their credit for my dog’s cancer surgery. When I later made a $2,000 payment, only about $700 was applied to the balance because of how aggressively interest compounds. That kind of structure is designed to keep people trapped in debt.

After suffering an injury and losing income, I worked out payment arrangements with all my other creditors. Synchrony Bank refused any meaningful assistance and instead chose to escalate to legal action, threatening my limited assets.

It is also unusually difficult to find transparent, accessible reviews about their practices, which raises additional concerns about accountability.

In my experience, this company combines high interest, poor customer support, and aggressive collection tactics in a way that disproportionately harms people already going through difficult situations.
They need a minus -0 review

If I could give zero stars that would…

If I could give zero stars that would be summing up my experience with how they operate as a business. Had a PC Richard & Son Account at $1000 then lowered to $250 and then $0 credit line. Amazon account had $400 then lowered to $100. The Container Store had $2,500 and now notified it’s at $250. This bank should shut down as I was treated like trash. Nothing but crooks and scammers screwing a customer over!
