Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 675 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the customer service, citing unhelpful interactions and difficulty reaching representatives who could resolve their issues. Reviewers frequently reported problems with payments, including issues with automatic payments not processing correctly, unexpected late fees, and difficulties making payments through various methods. A common concern was the bank's practice of lowering credit limits without clear reasons, even for customers with good payment histories, which negatively impacted their credit scores. Some people also felt that the company's policies, such as those related to interest charges and account closures, were unfair and led to unexpected financial burdens. Additionally, several customers experienced problems with fraudulent charges and found the resolution process to be inadequate.

Falsely Accused Of Being A High Credit Risk

I had several credit cards with them for many years and never had a late or a missed payment. Then all of a sudden they closed ALL of my accounts at the same time saying it was due to "unusual activity" on my accounts. There was no such activity going on and they all had very low balances on them (less than $50). They also said that I was at a "high risk" of not being able to repay my debts to them. Really? Something needs to be done about Synchrony Bank once and for all. They have been getting away with these types of activities for way too many years.

Horrible and shady

Horrible and shady. Had several accounts with them. Never missed a payment. Never was late. Over the last few months, I noticed they significantly reduced my limit on a few accounts. Recently, I was fortunate enough to pay off most of my accounts leaving a very small balance on one or two. Last night, I received a letter that one of my accounts was being lowered from $10K to $100. They’ve collected thousands of dollars in interest from me, and this is what they do in return. Due to all the limit decreases, my credit score has nosedived. This is a horrible thing to do to a consumer and bad business. I’ll never do business with them again!

They are not trustworthy

They are not trustworthy. They simply withdrew money from my checking account without my authorization. And worse, they said they would only return the money in approximately 2 weeks! I have US$641.00 and I need to pay other bills! It's outrageous. Don't do anything with this card.

Synchrony Bank could never improve

Synchrony Bank could never improve. Back in 1997 (Phila., Pa.) I tried to open a bank account with them and was turned down because of my credit score. In 2024, I was offered a chance to get a PayPal credit card ($2500). It was used on my Cruise. Within that year, I received an email that they lower my credit amount to $1390- what I had spent on the card, and I had $25 available credit. This caused my credit score to go down, made my Credit Utilization 75%. My credit score was in low 700. Getting back on track with credit score, I got an Amazon store card ($2200), and a Walmart spend card ($1000). Within 6 months they have dropped both accounts down to the credit I spent on the cards Amazon ($931), Walmart ($601) and available credit is $25 & $31. Now I have to get ready for the credit score to go back down, Credit Utilization to go up. I wish I would have remembered about how they did with PayPal card. I read under BBB; this person is trying to start a First-Class Action Lawsuit and wanted people to join in. Something needs to be done; they are messing up people credit score. I never missed a payment, never late and sometimes paid more. This is reported to agencies like (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion) so it seems as if we can't handle credit how we spend, makes it hard to do other things that some companies may have to check your score. They are a very BAD Bank. I have let everyone I know about this Synchrony Bank. Run, Run Fast. Customer Service is a Joke also.

Worst Bank to deal with

This is probably the worst bank that I have ever had to deal with. Customer service does not help or even understand the issue. I had credit on my card left, got declined twice, called them to find out why and was told due to card not being activated but had a balance due of $1700. Customer service was horrible, and i did not want to deal with such poor service, asked them whats balance due to close account - was given the total and I paid it. You would think that was the end, Oh No not with this awful bank. The call it trailing interest even after you have paid your sum. This was in April. Got a note today from Transunion about a late payment. Called bank, they took the late payments off and to find out trailing interest was lower than what they told Transunion BUT Customer Service would not assist to clear the issue with Transunion...their words - its your problem. Never again and I cancelled the two other charge cards i had with this bank. Good Bye

Horrible company to work with

Horrible company to work with. We just cancelled our Lowe's credit card with them due to the awful customer service. I went online weeks ago to make our payment just to find out two days after the due date that it never posted, due to there being too many digits in the account number I entered. Their site doesn't give you any indication that there were too many digits and when going online to check the payment, the site kept saying "pending" or processing. Apparently there is no algorithm on their site that indicates when an account number can't possible work and we never received any notification that there was an error. Once I realized that it wasn't going through I immediately called them to find out what happened. Not only did they charge me a $35 late fee, they also charged me a $35 returned check fee, despite the fact that no check was ever processed. I spoke to their customer service rep and then the supervisor and then to an "escalation specialist" and no one was willing to help. We cancelled the card so now they aren't the least bit interested in helping. I have never in my life been late on any payment; never wrote a bad check - never delinquent ever on any payment of any kind. This was especially disturbing to me and we were put off by their lack of understanding and willingness to help sort this out.

Pulled money not due

I have a pay later loan through them. Fell behind one month but was still on autopay so didn’t notice it missed one month until I checked And had over 200 in late fees. They could only credit one months worth of late fees, even after speaking to the manager. Very upset but it was my mistake so I paid Everything up to date on 6/9. Next autopay was scheduled for 6/12 but 2 different reps assured me that nothing would pull on the 12th since I was At a $0 balance. Well it pulled anyway! Called and spoke to them and asked if that would just go towards July payment. They said no, it would just be considered an extra payment. So I said I need It refunded then! She just put in a refund request but said she wasn’t able to email me to confirm this. I have To wait 24-48 hours for the automated email. Then to top it off, they can’t just refund it to my bank. Has to be a check sent in the mail. So over $100 that they said was not going to be pulled and was not due, pulled and now I have to wait around 2 WEEKS to get my money back. Predatory and disgusting! Just hoping they actually send me my money back and I dont Have to deal with them again. In the future, I will NEVER do anything with synchrony again!!

ZERO STARS FOR ME!

ZERO STARS FOR ME!

I have a TJX Rewards Card with Synchrony Bank. I've been an excellent customer with them since December 2025.
My credit card payments from January 2026 to June 2026 have been:
1. On time
2. Paid in full by the due date

I received a letter on today, June 11, 2026 informing me, Synchrony had reviewed my account, and according to them, I had two " dishonored" payments
and they had closed my account.

I immediately contacted my bank, only to discover there are no transactions recorded on my account where Synchrony did not receive their payments. My bank statement showed they indeed received the payments and possibly have overcharged me.

I called Synchrony, spoke to a representative, then requested a Supervisor. I was advised to coerce my bank to admit it was an error on their part, and Synchrony would possibly reconsider reopening my TJX Rewards Credit Card Account. My bank has reviewed my account, provided me with printed proof, Synchrony was paid more than, approximately 4X my initial payment. Synchrony refuses to admit fault or accept accountability or responsibility for their very unacceptable poor business practices.

At present, I am in the process of contacting Customer Service of my bank, to file a complaint against Synchrony and be provided with further proof, it was definitely Synchrony at fault( improper payment system- incompetent AI system).

I Am also contemplating a Class Action Lawsuit against Synchrony on behalf of all of us as Customers who have been treated unfairly.

I also have been legally advised to:
1. File a Complaint with The Better Business Bureau
2. File a Complaint with The Fair Credit Act Protection Law

I definitely will be taking those steps and following through with any and all additional options I can research and locate.

Please, Who is with Me? Let Me know.

Sincerely and Respectfully Submitted,

Reverend Rene' L. Rice

THE WORST BANK IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND...probably

Let's start with my credit score typically fluctuates in the low-mid 600s, not great, not the worst, BUT I have *never* had a late or missed payment, settlement, bankruptcy, anything of the sort. I had 3 credit cards that I didn't even realize went through synchrony (JC Penny, Venmo, and Care Credit) and have had nothing but problems recently. My JCP card I had in great standing for almost 10 years. I get a letter saying I hadn't used my card in a while (which I thought was being responsible) so they lowered my limit from $500 to $100, which was irritating but I started using it again a little bit here and there with full payoff every time, then I get another letter that they just decided to close it. Then my Venmo Card, which did have a higher balance, but again no late or missed payments ever and again they decided to lower my limit from $1200 to $100 without notice, even after I had completely paid it off. I got a care credit card last year when my dog got sick and again, it had a high balance because of the emergency, but I always made on time payments, then got a consolidation loan to save on interest and paid it in full. I get a letter today saying they decided to close that one too, for the most stupid reasons like inactivity (because it was for an emergency and I was paying it off and trying not to use it but it had been less than a year) and not having a real estate loan!! Like who the crap can afford a house in this economy and what does that have to do with whether I pay my bills on time?!!! Do these people even use their brains?! By making all these changes at random to people's accounts they are lowering those peoples credit scores than if they had left it alone! Absolutely the worst!!!!!!!

Definitely would NOT recommend

Definitely would NOT recommend. They are a poor
Representation for Sam’s Club. Their use of AI Generators is horrible. I used my cc in Maine. Flew to Florida and tried to use it to buy gas at Sam’s Club. Card was shut off for fraud prevention. So after waiting 15 mins to get gas, I went into Sam’s Club and cancelled that membership. Customer service absolutely the worst. They are untrained on customer retention and are quick to close the card and cannot answer basic questions. There are so many options out there go with a card not linked to a big store as they treat you like they are doing YOU a favor! Run from Synchronity. Don’t get caught up with their fake promises and zero customer service.

If I could give 0 stars I would.
For three months in a row I have received past due emails on an account where I have authorized automatic payments. Each time I go online to pay and to reactivate the auto pay application. This time around, I contacted live web support and after verifying to them that my bank account was active and in good standing I was told that pretty much there was nothing else that could be done and that I would have to contact them again if I get charged another late fee. When I asked if they could reactivate my automatic payments there was no response...
Absolute BS

Horrible bank!

Horrible bank, that is if we can call it that. We made a HUGE mistake opening an account there. The interest rate is not worth it. The transfers don’t work. Customer service doesn’t care. They have so many problems and time wasting opportunities it’s hard to believe they are in business. I will be closing all our accounts and move the to a more reputable bank.

I have to say that this bank is awful

I have to say that this bank is awful. I opened up a credit line to get a Google pixel phone a couple years ago, but you would think they would give me enough to buy the phone. I was financing. However, they did not so I was unable to use the credit line. I decided to use the credit line for a pixel 3 watch mind you after they cut my credit line in half for no reason. In the two years that I've been paying for the watch, I've gotten multiple late fees because their system is so out of date. There's no way to get any reminders or emails. However, that's not the biggest problem. The biggest problem is I paid the full balance off because I got tired of using the bank. This was 2 months ago. Utilizing their website it said pay balance statement which $156. The next month I look and I see that I got another late fee for for $16 balance that was not there the month before. When I called them they refused to do anything. So for owing them $16 I had to pay the last $56 this month. Do not finance anything through this Bank. Thank you
