I was just getting started
Just was getting adjusted to doing business with Swan and without offering any explanation, they closed my account, and right after I had wired 8k for a bigger transaction. Now they saw I cannot get my funds back until 12-15-25. Something is rotten in their organization.

Great customer service and technical…
Great customer service and technical support plus a helpful app. They provide the ability to dollar cost average and they recently added the ability to plan buys at certain price targets. Bitcoin plus Swan is a nice combination for my goals.

Why can’t I sell my Bitcoin
Swan doesn’t give the ability to transfer or exchange Bitcoin with other people. Also, even if I wanted to sell my Bitcoin, Swan doesn’t allow me to cash out. I would recommend anyone to avoid this app/company unless you never plan to sell your Bitcoin.

Hello! This comment is more that I’m easily distracted and inexperienced with the “Swan” implementation. I have not done this in previous CryptoRoth.
I have now made a BTC purchase TWICE to my PERSONAL account when I intended it to be a ROTH contribution.
My intention of using Swan is ONLY to contribute to my Roth, until some point in the future when I make withdrawals tax-free.
The mistakes (twice), that I transferred accidentally to a Swan personal account, sets me up to be taxed on capital gains.
These “purchases” thru bank xfer were from a windows website, where I am not queried if I want a direct purchase of BTC(personal) or a contribution to Roth.
After I had done this first a year ago, I found out thru a question to Alex, that despite making personal gains since that purchase, the PERSONAL account is just buying BTC direct and not a Roth contribution.
Knowing that, this time, I expected a choice of what to do with my bank xfer to Swan. As I continued thru the transaction and by hitting “continue” it proceeded to make a personal buy of BTC.
In summary, I believe the app gets it right, and queries for intention. The website allows for guys like me to unwittingly make a purchase of BTC, of which I never like getting taxed on.
A software engineer as myself, could rationalize what I would’ve/should’ve done from a Windows browser, but it did fall outside my intuitive(and forgetful) mindset. Also, I may not be the only longer time crypto investor, that only intends to us Swan, other than a Crypto Roth account. Perhaps a setting that could lockout (unless prompted) bank outflows to Personal account.
Any tips on how I may minimize tax implications on my foibles, would be appreciated . I can imagine what they may be(since I don’t go big), but any ideas could be helpful.
I dont think a lot about BTC, tho I’ve learned I should protect myself from myself in this situation, since I’m currently on my own with these transactions.

By default, Bitcoin buys on both desktop and mobile will always route to a personal Swan account. To make a purchase into your IRA, it’s important to first click into your Swan IRA account and initiate the buy there. We recognize that isn’t always intuitive and appreciate your suggestion for a clearer flow, feedback like this helps us improve.
Regarding the tax implications, we can’t provide individual tax advice, so we recommend consulting with a CPA or tax professional who can give you guidance specific to your situation. That said, just to clarify: in the U.S., Bitcoin itself isn’t taxed at the time of purchase, taxes are only triggered when there’s a capital gain realized upon selling or spending BTC.

Costs are low but prices are high.
You have good service and costs but your bitcoin price quotes are always higher. Why is this? I've checked numerous times against both my portfolio app and coinbase and you are consistently higher. I suppose if I were selling this could be an advantage but I'm always buying.

Thank you for the thoughtful review and for pointing this out. Our price chart shows the mid-market rate, but the actual price for a buy or sell order can differ slightly. This is because our liquidity provider gives us a live executable price designed to protect clients from slippage and volatility risk. The spread is not static, but it tends to hover right around 0.5% of the mid-market price.
This practice is standard across the industry, though the way it’s displayed can vary from platform to platform. At Swan, we aim to be fully transparent, and the trade price is always shown on the order confirmation screen before you complete a purchase.
We really appreciate your feedback and will keep working to make Swan as clear and client-friendly as possible.
