I bought Spark tourist Sim card at Auckland International airport. The plan I bought was supposed to give me unlimited minutes of text and talk in New Zealand in 500 minutes of international talk. Checking my account it tells me that I've been using it since February 1st which is a lie and that I have run out of credit and yet checking further it tells me I have unlimited minutes Etc. Trying to reach anyone for assistance is next to Impossible. I highly recommend you by your sim card from anybody but Spark New Zealand

The worst provider out there

The worst provider out there. We were sold a business 5g a when it wasn’t performing well, we called them and were told that 5g is not even available at our location . The customer service just takes to from one person to the next person. They don’t refund the charges even when the usage has been zero and you have to get another service provider because spark doesn’t work. They will not even refund the charges for the modem.
It’s just such a disappointing and frustrating experience.

I have now been double charged by Spark…

I have now been double charged by Spark multiple times when purchasing new prepaid packs. Each time, the second charge appears approximately one minute after the legitimate transaction.

When I attempt to resolve this, I am forced to wait several days to reach anyone through your messaging system, which is wholly inadequate for time-sensitive billing issues. Once I finally receive a response, I am told this is somehow my fault.

Your explanation has been that because I had an existing pack scheduled to renew that night, purchasing a new pack created “available credit,” which triggered an automatic renewal of the old plan - and then I was also charged for the new pack I was deliberately trying to buy. In other words, your system processed two charges in quick succession, without warning, and without any clear explanation at the point of purchase.

This is not user error. This is a system design flaw.

While the duplicate charge has eventually been refunded, there has been no acknowledgement that this is a failure in your billing logic, and no goodwill gesture for the inconvenience and time wasted resolving an issue caused entirely by your system.

It is unreasonable to expect customers to understand the hidden mechanics of your auto-renewal logic to avoid being double charged. The responsibility sits with Spark to ensure its billing system is transparent, predictable, and does not penalise customers for legitimately purchasing a plan.

This issue needs to be properly addressed - not dismissed or redirected back onto the customer. I am moving from Spark to a new provider because of this reoccurring issue.

Bought a SIM at AKL-Staff Great Product Worst ever.

Bought a $29 prepaid at AKL. Staff were great. Over the next day discovered voicemail is an optional extra on prepaids and no way to contact Spark! * 123, *122, *333 and other contacts listed on the SIM card only respond 'no credit' and ask for a topup. Went to a shop who could not figure it out! Worst prepaid SIM experience ever.

This company lacks transparency.. im disgusted.

This company lacks transparency on all their little worm holes in their services.
I had 2 phones connected to their services, one was on a 100 dollar endless plan which is now superseded by the 95 endless. And the other, a 45 dollar plan. I changed my 100 dollar plan to a 65 dollar plan thinking we would save money and stay afloat during hard times. They then sent me bills that seemed too high, I found out, that by downgrading my plan, it is apparently standard that the secondary plan gets hiked up to the original plan you came off!! Im not talking pro rata extra charges on the bill, im talking i downgrade one, to have the other one upgraded without my knowledge. On complaining, their generic seeming responses were not answering my questions directly, and was givin a bunch of information that was irrelevant to the direct issue. Their next response was, "if your new to Spark, here's a link or information..."
EXCUSE ME.. im not new i have had accounts my whole life with Spark. No help with crediting back the 100 dollars they stole with their sneaky tricks they play. Ill be taking 3 phones in this house to another provider, hopefully one that will allow me to deal with a HUMAN!!!

I was put on the companion and leader plan by their Staff, as advised it was the best deal for our needs. It was never explained that lowering the plan of the Leader would automatically adjust the companion to 95 per month. Be very wary of this because who in their right mind would be expected to know this without it ever being explained in the first place.

Good job Spark, top service!!!
Highly recommend to all who enjoy being screwed over as a lengthy loyal customer 👌

Buyer Beware

I joined spark a year ago after purchasing an S24 Ultra which was a very expensive phone so it made sense to get phone insurance through Spark which I added to my spark account , I was told it was very easy to get phone insurance if I broke , lost or had my phone stolen. Unfortunately yesterday I lost my phone in a deep pond and was unable to find it .I contacted spark they informed me that they have nothing to do with phone insurance and gave me to contact of another party. The list that they require is substantial . I needed to send $350 to make the claim which was almost impossible to do because of 2 step verification so I had to go into y bank to sort. I just got an email to say they want a screenshot of find my mobile off Google. They want a screen shot on find my Samsung which I can’t get cause all my passwords are saved on my phone I lost. They want a police report which all needs to be sent through for approval. I have contractual obligations for work and need a phone ASAP. My friend who works for the same company as me ran over his phone last week , he is with Vodafone he walked in to the shop and walked out in 20 minutes with a new phone……well done vodafone

Avoid

I bought an iPhone off spark in 2024, 3 weeks after purchase the phone broke, I took it back and the sales rep was so rude to me, word for word told me “there is nothing I can do for you” I had to ring up the 0800 number and complain about how sassy and rude this girl was that they told what to do and use a different sales rep which I did. They sent the 3 week old phone off and a few days later they said their technicians couldn’t find a fault and my phone was ready to pick up. I didn’t even leave the carpark before my phone blacked out and stopped working. So once again I had to send it off. By time I got my phone back it had been in the store longer than I owned it. Sales rep told me if it happens again they will replace it. I then went travelling and the whole time I had nothing but issues with my phone. My phone is not even a year old and still turns itself off and is a brick. I went to spark for a third time and they said they had to send it off for repair. When I advised that the last time I was in that store they told me they would replace it but apparently the place they send it to has to check for faults before they replace it. Which baffles me considering the last two times they couldn’t find the reason (which is news to me today they had replaced something last time because that had not been communicated to me, I was told they re-downloaded the software. So if you want to spend over $2k on a phone that doesn’t work and have no help from the store you buy it from go to spark. Otherwise take your money elsewhere.

Would not recommend spark as your fiber internet provider! After a whole month calling , writing messages back and forward verifying 100 times I still couldn’t get internet at our new house!
Even so been with spark for over ten years provider for phone service it has made me so mad! Always get some person from overseas impossible to understand reading of a script giving you empty promises with when it will be connected and still nothing!
Stay away from spark unless you want to grow a beard while waiting for your internet !

Terrible service, overpriced charges. Avoid Spark at all costs!

After 30 plus years with Spark I cancelled all of my services aside from a single email account due to continual account lockouts and enforced password changes when using VPN and e-Sim while overseas, poor service and overpriced services. Even after returning to NZ I have to shutdown Outlook and refrain from using Xtra mail webmail when using a VPN. Spark is a terrible service provider. Avoid using Spark as they are the worst organization I have ever dealt with and this is coming from a previously loyal Spark customer.

Shockingly bad service

We transfer our broadband from our old address to the new address on the 18th of December. I just got off the phone with the fibre company six days later. Spark never put our order through. After hours of calls to Spark the last 6 days and an unfriendly Peter at the Centre Place store we’ve been told the broadband connection will be happening either in 2 to 4 hours or the next day.

The biggest scam of the year

The biggest scam of the year is their Santa hotline meant for kids to ring and speak to Santa. Somehow Santa perennially seems to be unavailable so one only gets his voice mail. Can you imagine the kids’ disappointment 😠

A brainless time waster to say the least. Thanks again Spark for your excellent service 🤬

When I arrived on a working holiday in…

When I arrived on a working holiday in New Zealand in September 2024, Spark were advertising a good priced phone plan (no contract) at the airport. The working holiday is up to 3 years so in that time I will be making trips to and from my hometown London.

In July 2025 I headed home for a month. In order to not pay for the plan whilst I was away, I called up Spark and let them know to pause my plan for a month. Whilst this was not mentioned on the phone at the time, to make these kinds of changes to a plan incurs fees of over $40. My plan was only $20 more, so had this been mentioned, I wouldn’t have even bothered.

I was supposed to come back in September but due to a breakdown and losing a job, I didn’t make it back. I contacted Spark in early September asking them to pause my plan til November. They ignored this request multiple times, so the bills continued to pile up. I refused to pay these bills, because they never acknowledged my requests to pause my phone plan for some reason.

They let me off of one late payment fee and told me they were doing me a favour. Upon my first bill since I arrived in November, I had an additional reconnection charge of $43. I don’t know what needed reconnecting if I had paid bills for August, September and October (when I wasn’t even in the country or using the SIM card). I have ended up paying more for a service than I would have if I just said nothing. The customer service is terrible. I was happy with spark until this incident.

Because of their refusal to remove the reconnection charge, I will use their services until they cut me off. Scammers.
