Decent product, but an incredibly frustrating and misleading buying experience
I ordered a wheelset from Scribe Cycling on February 12, based on their claim of "immediate dispatch in 1-3 days." What actually followed was a stressful six-week ordeal.
Instead of shipping my order, Scribe repeatedly delayed it, offering a string of excuses ranging from stock shortages to international freight delays. Over the course of a month, there was constant back-and-forth via email where they tried to switch my order to different models, sister brands, and alternative rim depths because they didn't have what I ordered.
After losing trust in their constantly changing timeline, I explicitly requested a full cancellation and refund on March 18. Instead of honoring my refund request, Scribe tried to bargain with me to wait another two weeks. Finally, unannounced and without honoring my cancellation, they simply shipped a pair of wheels (not the original order) to me on March 26.
As for the product itself, the wheels are generally fine, though the rear wheel unfortunately arrived slightly out of true.
While the hardware is okay, the customer service, misleading dispatch times, and blatant disregard for a customer's cancellation request are unacceptable. If you need wheels reliably and on time, I would look elsewhere.

In this instance, a stock discrepancy affecting the 60 mm variant you originally ordered meant we weren’t able to complete the build within the expected dispatch window. As soon as this became clear, we worked to offer suitable alternatives including carbon-spoke configurations and alternative rim depths so we could get a comparable wheelset to you as quickly as possible. The Core SuperLight 50 option you accepted was supplied on that basis so we could avoid extending the delay further.
We fully appreciate that the timeline changes were frustrating. Like many manufacturers at present, we’ve been navigating ongoing global logistics disruption affecting a small number of key components, which has unfortunately impacted availability of some models. While many of our wheelsets are in stock and dispatch immediately, we do acknowledge that a small number of specific configurations are currently operating on pre-order timelines while component deliveries arrive.
Regarding your cancellation request, I’m sorry this wasn’t handled as clearly as it should have been at the time but from what I can see, there was no reply to our email questioning some further options. I will, however, review this with the team and ascertain if this could have been handled differently.
Now that the wheels are with you, I’d really welcome the opportunity to speak directly and make sure everything is exactly as it should be particularly your comment about the rear wheel arriving slightly out of true, which we would of course like to resolve quickly for you.
If you’re open to it, I’d be very happy to arrange a call and make things right.
We’re confident once everything is properly set up and dialled in, the wheels will perform exactly as expected and we do appreciate you giving Scribe a try despite the delays.

Good wheels
After just two rides I can say I love the SL5 Elan wheel set. The improvement over the Hollowgram R45 was drastic. Almost 500 grams lighter and the perceived aerodynamic and rolling/spinning resistance was positive.
I initially ordered the SL5 Core, but they were taking FOREVER to be built, so I upgraded to the Elan. I’ve never had wheels or any other product take so long to arrive. From what I gather it’s Scribe’s business practice to keep inventory too low.
The customer service though was great and they always replied with good answers to my concerns and questions.

Nice wheels - but very delayed
The wheels I bought were 3 months underway. It was during the winter, and I really didn't need the wheels until they arrived late March. The delay was annoying, but Scribe did a good job of sending updates and I was never in doubt that I was going to receive the wheels.

Detailed Review – After 1000 Intensive Kilometers
I received the wheels three weeks ago, and after 1000 km, I can now provide a complete and objective review.
To start with, like many others, I experienced significant delivery delays. However, the team was always very transparent and responsive, and I really appreciated the commercial gestures (such as the free white stickers and the upgrade to a higher model). The delay was not their fault, and once the components arrived, everything moved very quickly. So I don’t hold the delay against you, and I apologize for being a bit persistent by email.
Now, regarding the wheels, I can only say they are incredible. All the promises are fulfilled, the product truly reflects quality and performance. I ride a Tarmac SL7 Sport, previously with the stock aluminum wheels, and I can honestly say it feels like I have a new bike. It’s lighter, more aerodynamic (this is truly impressive, once you go over 30 km/h, the difference is very noticeable), and more responsive. The 24 mm internal width combined with my 30 mm tires has significantly changed the way I ride and feel the road. I feel more confident in corners, and road imperfections are much better absorbed.
I ride in Belgium, where road quality is sometimes questionable (and where cobblestones are everywhere), and I can say that after 1000 km, during which I really didn’t go easy on them, the wheels are still like new (apart from a minor crash on my part that slightly scratched the rear wheel).
As for the hub, I know some people made a big deal about it, but personally I was almost disappointed… because some of my friends’ hubs are even louder than mine! That said, I absolutely love the sound.
In short, thank you Scribe for these wheels. I highly recommend them to anyone reading this review. I think it’s hard to find better at this price point (and maybe there’s simply nothing better at all?). Thanks to the team for your responsiveness and closeness, it’s great to have a brand that takes such good care of its customers.

The Elan wheels are exeptionally good…
The Elan wheels are exeptionally good judged on my first few rides.
However buying them is somewhat….Scribe says they are building them once they get an order, makes sense. However they also decided to withdraw the purchase price from my account immediately, fully within their right. However it took them 3 weeks to build and ship my wheels which is not ok. It is fine Scribe wants to keep inventory low, but this is a standard product and doesn’t warrant a build-to-order approach to how to pay

Just to clarify, I can see that we dispatched your order 11 days after you placed it (8 working days). This is slightly longer than normal for us (2-3 working days), as we're currently experiencing extremely high demand for our wheels. We apologise that dispatch took a little longer on this occasion.
We have put extra resources in place to get us back to our normal dispatch times.
I can see there were also a few short delivery delays with FedEx, I hope you can understand this is outside our control. We ship multiple wheelsets worldwide via FedEx daily, and it's extremely rare for us to encounter issues. We're very sorry to hear that you experienced a delay with them on this occasion.
As riders ourselves, we can understand how frustrating waiting for new bike components can be. However, we also take great pride in carefully hand-building our wheels to the highest possible standards.
Although it takes a little longer for your new wheels to be dispatched, we firmly believe that hand-built wheels offer much better performance and durability.
Regarding our build-to-order policy, this ensures that your wheels arrive in perfect condition and that they have been freshly hand-built with the spoke tensions set. Also, it's common practice across the bike industry (and many other online retailers) to pay in full for your pre-order before your order is processed and dispatched.
We keep all our wheel components in stock in our own warehouse, and we're not normally out of stock for more than a few weeks at a time. In most cases, when our customers order from us, we have the individual components here, and (as mentioned above) we hand-build within 2-3 working days.

The wheels are excellent, and the customer service team was quick to answer all our questions and offer good solutions. The only negative point was the failure to meet the delivery deadline, which was changed more than once. Despite the excellent communication, the delay always causes apprehension, but in the end everything was resolved, and it was worth the wait.
