Incorrect instructions and no refund
I booked a car through RentalCars with Click Rent in Spain. The instructions said that to pick up the car I only needed my credit card and EU licence. After spending an hour getting to the rental place by bus, I got to the desk they said I had to have a passport with me. To go back and get it was too long so my whole days plans were ruined. Of course I tried to get a refund but they basically directed me to an obscure email where I have had no response.
HORRIFIC SERVICES
HORRIFIC SERVICES
I am regular car rental client, I have rented 3 weeks before my trip a Fiat 500, with a specific purpose- I had to make a shooting of a house+ yard on the South Peloponnese and I had to have a car coming on a very tight alley ( on the photo)...so I choose Fiat 500. I got there, the company they didn't even had a Fiat 500 in their auto park. They charge Fiat 500 and offer Panda, because they only have Fiat Panda. The Car rental company was a fraud, but RentalCars. com did not helped at all. At the end of the discussion, I found out that RentalCars are choosing the picture to be used for the offers...So, they can offer you any car even if the car rental company never had it into their parking lot... Basically its all a predicted fraud! DON't ever rent with THEM! And never choose CarQ in Athens.
Horrific customer service
Horrific customer service. Despite several attempts we could not get through to customer service to cancel a booking within the given 48 hr timeframe policy.
We had made another booking with the same company for the same city (also via RentalCars), just different location and after yet another VERY lengthy delay in responding to our complaint procedure requests, RentalCars still refused to refund us for the unused booking. Absolutely appalling competence and care. They say you'll hear from them within 14 days, it's more like a month and then another two weeks for the next response and so on... This company have therefore stolen money from us and been a disgrace to deal with. We shall never use again and are reporting to UK Trading Standards.
Front for scam rentals
Front for scam rentals. They try every single thing they can to fleece you.
All extra unwarranted charges applied.
I am a car rental regular
I am a car rental regular, having rented close to a hundred times over the last decade. I sometimes use brokers most regularly HolidayAutos and occasionally RentalCars.
Most recently I booked through RentalCars a car from Europcar at Munich Airport. I paid in full upfront in advance in order to have nothing to pay but a cross border fee at the counter. At arrival however I was charged an additional fee that could not be explained. I disputed heavily but was told by the staff they had no option to amend it behind the desk and did not know what it was for but “maybe it was a foreign payment fee”, which from experience I know is nonsense. I told them this but they said I had to pay and complain to RentalCars or cancel the booking, which is not really a choice.
I complained to RentalCars and after several weeks they came back and stated it was a cross border fee. I told them that I was not disputing the cross border fee but the other unstated charges.
After several more weeks they came back and told me it was an environmental charge. I told them I paid upfront in full and no environmental extra charge was listed in the terms and conditions. After a few more weeks I called them to chase up and then a few weeks again later I got told it was an upgrade fee. I have gone back again and stated I neither requested an upgrade nor was offered one so this also cannot be true. I don’t know how long we can go back and forward on this. We’re up to four invalid guesses on the charges. How high can we go before getting it right?
They are effectively a front for other…
They are effectively a front for other businesses with policies that are not consumer friendly and designed to just take your money and provide no service. Check out easirent who no longer even trade on their own website but Rentalcars are quite happy to front for them. Avoid at all costs. They cancelled our car due to a delayed flight and then refused to refund as quite literally they don't care
Avoid at all costs they are a complete…
Avoid at all costs they are a complete con!! We hired a car from Almeria Airport noone was there to sort the car for ages when they did they just gave us the keys and never came out to record any damage we sent photos to them of the damage that was already in the car, when we returned it there was noone there no instructions as to what to do, we have now been charged over £134 for so called damage which we know 100% has not happened they won't even say what the so called damage was!! We even took out the full insurance and they won't answer either!!
Service Desk failure - Consequence re-booking a new car for 4x the initial price
Our flight from Eindhoven to Marseille (Flight number FR6506) was cancelled on September 11th. There was fog at the airport, which caused major delays and eventually our flight was cancelled. Therefore we could not pick up the car at Marseille Airport on that date. We made our booking via Rentalcars (booking number: 773008713) and called them on Sep 11th to inform them about the situation. Your support desk confirmed to us that they would inform Gold Car that we would pick up the car the next day. To be sure we also send an email to Gold Car (can send the email if needed as prove) explaining our situation as we could not reach them by phone as the office was only open from Monday-Friday and our flight was on a Sunday (I have video's of their voicemail as prove we called them). When we arrived at Marseille Airport a day later, the people at the desk from Gold Car told us that Rental Cars did not inform them and they also did not see the email that we sent to them. Therefore, our booking was cancelled and we needed to book a new car for 4x the initial price on top of the price we already paid for the first car. We were flabbergasted as our flight was cancelled (out of our control) and we spoke to Rental Cars & send an email to Gold Car to explain the situation and now we were the ones that needed to pay 2100 euro's for a new car (I have screenshots of the payment). This is not how you treat people, especially if your support desk confirmed to us that they would let Gold Car know that we would pick up the car the next day.
Nonsense after & before sales support
Nonsense after & before sales support. All the good reviews are just lucky they did not run into any problems. Better if you go direct and book from the vendor and skip rentalcars.com
DONT RENT FROM RENTALCARS.COM even if…
DONT RENT FROM RENTALCARS.COM even if the price looks great.
My experience has been that I went to Cyprus 5/10 this year picked up my car and when I arrived at my destination found out my close relative passed so had to arrange to fly back to london 8/10. I tried to get a refund for 6 unused days and they bluntly refused no matter if you have proof of the situation or not.
I screen shot the whole conversation I had with Valerie Angel on ‘Chat’ was very uncaring.
Will be pleased to publish this chat on google so future consumers can see in advance what they are dealing with should something unforeseen and ‘bad’ occur while away on their travels.
THERE ARE FAR BETTER COMPANIES TO USE. IN HINDSIGHT, I SHOULD HAVE PAID A LITTLE EXTRA TO RECEIVE SOME CREDIT/A REFUND AND A HUMAN UNDERSTANDING!
Do not use these people
Do not use these people. I was late to pick the car up because the flight was delayed. Their T&Cs state 30 minute window to pick the car up which is close to impossible. They did not refund me. They did not offer me another car. They left me and my family high and dry. I was forced to pay 1100 Euros for another hire car. Absolutely furious and it ruined our holiday

We booked a car to pick up at Cairns…
We booked a car to pick up at Cairns Australia for the 13/9 at 12 pm . Our flights were delayed and we didn’t arrive until 3.15 . The rental car operator had gone home early for the day and nobody answering the phone .we went there next morning to find out Rentalcars. Com cancelled our booking for not showing up on time to collect our car we pre paid for . No matter what my explanation was after atleast 20 plus emails and endless phone calls they said I breached there policy for no show and not listing our flight details on the booking . They say we’re very sorry and to complete a refund form . After doing this 4 times they still say there’s no refund of our $1200 dollars . They have taken full payment for a car we never had or a chance to pick up . Is there a governing body to help people like me as no goverment department in Australia seems to care that crooks like this company can operate like this taking peoples money . I will never book through Rentalcars . Com or Booking . Com again
Misleading refundable booking terms
They show on their website cars that have nonrefundable rate and cars with refundable rate, I booked a car for tomorrow with a refundable rate, had to cancel due to flight cancelation, and they refuse to cancel the booking.
do not use these crooks
do not use these crooks, rented a car that wasn't confirmed so was charged 50£ for cancelling after a member of their staff told me to cancel and rebook elsewhere? without telling me I would be charged, then rented from somewhere else that were terrible and charged me 40£ extra to pick the car up after 11pm even tho I got there at 10pm but had to wait an hour! hilariously bad service all round, beyond reprieve, they are crooks
Misleading booking!
Booked a car through a well known cashback site and I have now been waiting over a year - cashback site have been as helpful as possible but I would never use rentalcars.com again as it appears that they use cashback sites to attract customers and then never pay up!
I would love to give you five stars
I would love to give you five stars, really, I would.
But then I got this email yesterday telling me that I was being charged a 500 kr service fee for a dead battery on a car I had returned.
Plus someone left their nasty coffee cups for me to smell.
Do not use Rentalcars and Enterprise services never
Firstly, Rentalcars (and dealers) always require a deposit, instead of just making the rent a little more expensive and not torturing the user with additional fees. So I booked a car with Enterprise through Rentalcars, paid, but Enterprise (at their office) refused the rent because I do not have an electronic chip on my bank card to make a deposit (what?????). Enterprise was told that they did not return the money for the reservation ("you should ask Rentalcars for refund"), and Rentalcars said that the cancellation of the reservation should have been done by Enterprise. And even if they returned the money, they would return everything but without money for 3 days rent. Crappy service, crappy terms and worst return policy. I will never, I repeat, will NEVER use this crappy service, and I will advise everyone to stay away from Rentalcars and Enterprise. I advise you to search for car rental companies in Google maps and go to the website directly.
Honestly the worst customer service I…
Honestly the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I had booked a car rental in a foreign country and unfortunately lost my drivers license the day before the rental. Thus began a 3+ series of phone calls and all around awful experience. This started when discussing my options with rentalcars.com's telephone service, during which they noted that b/c the rental period had already started they could not transfer the primary driver and would have to cancel the reservation and book a new one for significantly more money. Seeing no other option, I followed their instructions but was booked an itinerary that did not match the original booking. So I was then left needing to cancel the second booking, which the agent noted required waiving the additional insurance. The website would not let me do this, and after mentioning this to the service rep., I was hung up on. After re-calling booking.com, they eventually canceled the second booking and made a third booking. Although we were already at the airport (the pickup location of the original booking) we had to use a shuttle to an offsite car rental location. Upon arrival, the rental company noted that they had only received the second booking and not the third. On top of this, they did not have the style of car (automatic transmission, standard sedan...nothing fancy/rare) in stock. So after several more phone calls and another few hours of waiting we finally had our car in hands. Fast forward to a week later, and the charges of all three rentals are still on our credit card statements. The reason given by booking.com representatives was that for the first booking, I will need to wait 28 days for the original car rental to confirm that the rental was a no show, which is an absolutely ridiculous amount of time. Additional, no representative I have spoken to is able to send me a confirmation that this rental has started the cancellation process on their side. For the second rental, despite being told multiple times over the phone that they had originally canceled it, upon follow up, a representative told us it was never actually cancelled in their system. Their customer service is absolutely useless and I would never recommend this experience on any other renters. BEWARE!
Robbed me of £315 and no car
I made a mistake with my booking and called within 10 minutes. Told them I don’t have a credit card and that I needed a car from another location. The agent asked me to cancel and make a new booking as I had opted for full insurance.she promised a full refund was started. I made the new booking only to realise that we couldn’t get the car with a debit card. Booking 1:£153 Booking 2:£165. No car. No refund and agents now say I cannot get a refund.
Their agents refute any statements/refund promises made by previous agents.
