If I could give zero stars, I would...
The driver of the van actually stole my rather expensive watch.
In the morning whilst waiting for the dynamic duo to turn up, I noticed my watch on my chest of drawers. I picked it up and placed it in my bedside cabinet, thinking that I didn't want to lose it in the move. After a very long day and of course, an extra 5 hours (paid of course), my back was in pieces. My painkillers are kept in my bedside cabinet. I went upstairs (whilst the dynamic duo continued to unload their van) to get my tablets and when I opened the drawer, I had a rummage and happened to notice that my watch was no longer there. I got my partner to come and have a look but nope, it was definitely gone. I got the two guys in the garage and told them that my expensive watch was missing and the only people who'd touched the bedside cabinet was them.
I was very clear that if my watch wasn't produced, I'd have the police out to search them and their van. After a couple of awkward minutes, the driver asked me to join him on the driver's side of the van. His English wasn't that great so he typed a message on Google translate. He said something along the lines of 'I saw the watch and I really liked it, so I took it. I'm very very sorry'. I was fuming at this point so I asked him for it back, immediately. He stepped into the van, lifted the passenger seat up and retrieved my watch. He handed it back, apologising profusely. He couldn't even look me in the eyes. I advised them to hurry up and leave.
Now, my biggest concern is, what else did the sticky fingered little goblin steal during the course of the day?
If I hadn't gone to get painkillers, I'd have been none the wiser and second guessed myself about what I'd done with the watch when I'd next gone to wear it.
I immediately tried to call the move manager, Spencer but could only leave a message. I also emailed them but being Friday night, didn't get anything back... Well, not until Monday morning (20th November). I spoke to Spencer who genuinely seemed shocked. He said that he'd speak to his boss and that he'd probably be in touch. Sure enough, within half an hour, I had the boss on the phone. I explained everything to him and he said he'd get back to me within an hour and a half. Four hours later, nothing. He did message back saying that he wanted to speak to the driver.
No word for a few hours. Eventually he sends a text saying that he'd spoken to the driver and he'd given a very different story (I bet he did) although no explanation as to what his story was... Their investigation was complete. Case closed.
Unbelievable... Looking back on this, the owner is Romanian, just like the driver so I'm guessing that's why his review was concluded the way it was!
Anyway, my advise to anyone thinking about using these cowboys, just don't. If you can't trust your movers not to steal from you, then do you really want to take that chance.
You have been warned.
