Terrible Rebel

I have had the worst experience with this company. Communication has been consistently poor, to the point of being non-existent. They demand payments without justification, without statements, and without any form of explanation. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company under any circumstances.

Attention to detail...

Being charged incorrectly for the first time to being given a £10 voucher towards a tesco shop as an apology for charging an incorrect amount towards a bill, then being sent a £720 bill. I've been passed on to Oriel due to staff from rebel energy having enough of me, I don't know whether I'm coming or going with this company, and to top it all off I never received any source of energy from them.
Save yourself a year of going back and fourth in emails with them and join a secure company (any company rather than this one).

I made the full payment I made full payment but still receive threatening messages – No response from Orielfor my account…

I made the full payment for my account (Reference: RBLK398842766, Account ID: 789123) some time ago. Despite this, I am still receiving emails claiming I still have outstanding balance, and some of these messages even include threatening language about legal action.

I have already sent multiple emails to Oriel Collections, clearly stating that I’ve paid the full amount and attaching the official receipt. I have received no reply at all. I also tried calling their customer service several times, but I can never get through due to “high call volume.”

This lack of communication and continued harassment after payment is unacceptable. I am now forced to leave this public review in hopes that someone at Oriel or Rebel Energy will actually address the issue.

Scammers

I set up a contract with One Utility energy who is part of Rebel energy, basically they arw a third party company that put all your electricty and water (or gas) together so it is one payment. This was recommended by my letting agency so i had trust in them.
I am in a small 1 bed flat, averaging £40 per month for both water and elec, one utility were charging me a crazy £275 a month at a set rate! I was stuck in this ludricrous contract, paid each month til november which i luckily escaped, i paid a £100 early leaving fee but infact i paid £200 as i paid the first 1 manually (they asked) then they automatically took a second the same day (no refund for that.) Then today i have an email stating i owe rebel energy money and if i don't pay they will take legal action and i will have to pay for solicitors and courtcase.
I owe nothing i paid the last £275 on 19th November and the fees took in December.
I had always checked the website for upcoming payments and it said was up to date and nothing left to pay, todat a man emailed me and asked if my details were the same and within a minute it was updated on the website as a new payment and the payment took from my bank account.
Both corrupt companies, scammers and i will never see any of that money again.

I still have not received my money back…

I still have not received my money back from this company even though my account was in credit by around £289.35. I hate that these companies can take your money, quit trading and then hold it indefinitely without any firm timeline to return. We aren’t allowed to just not pay for energy so why are you allowed to just not pay us back. Horrible. I feel trap in a non-transparent system. I am stuck between BG and Rebel and Rebel after weeks of sending me my final bill they still holding my money.

I see why they went bust.

Leaving another review so people know just how God awful this company was, and still is.

Transferred a bill of £439 to British Gas. Then claimed they never did it. Then, after I had to spend my days off work getting evidence, making phone calls, finally admitted they did and that they would sort it. A week later and nothing has happened, nothing has changed. British Gas is going to charge me, and pass my details to debt collectors, because of their massive mistake.

Now, they are passing the blame. Claiming it is not their fault, but the Administrators???

I can see why they went into administration. Shocking, shocking company. Absolutely disgusting.

I would strongly advise against using…

I would strongly advise against using Rebel Energy.

When I attempted to switch providers, they told me they would not pass me on until my bill was cleared. Later, they claimed I had a debt of £120, which I disputed since I do not owe them any money. I responded in a factual and straightforward way, only to be told that my reply was “rude.”

I found this extremely unprofessional. How comes months later they came up with such a bill?

Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Rebel Energy to anyone.

Absolutely appalling 'customer service'

If I could give Rebel - a UK utilities company that is now in administration - a negative rating then I absolutely would.

The company's so-called customer service team has been haranging me to pay a SECOND final bill of £120 despite the fact I already paid a final bill in April.

Even though I have sent them payment receipts and evidenced meter reads, and received corroboration from British Gas, Rebel has insisted I pay them their outlandish second bill.

Their most recent reaction has been to set a collections company on me because I dared to challenge their obstinance. They have also completely ignored my requests to make an official complaint.

To make matters even worse, they have just emailed me to say they intend to re-bill me AGAIN, thereby starting the whole bureaucratic nightmare all over again!

Honestly, dealing with Rebel's customer-facing agents is like banging your head against a brick wall.

Quite simply, this has been the most inept and most stressful customer service experience I have ever encountered with any company, utilities or otherwise.

Avoid at all costs

Would give zero stars if I could.
Very expensive and we are still waiting for over £300 in credit to be sent to our new supplier since they went bust in April.

I’ve noticed that they are still responding to reviews on here, even though they no longer operate or provide a service.

Avoid at all costs

Currently in a dispute with rebel…

Currently in a dispute with rebel energy as they advised I had a credit as of 10/4/25 - British Gas took over on the 6/4/25 as rebel went into liquidation. Rebel then sent me a final bill for £58.58 but then also sent a credit for the same amount to British Gas. Since I have challenged Rebel about this via email with very unhelpful staff they have apparently taken the credit for £58.58 back from British Gas with no explanation! BG have advised this is actually my credit and should be refunded back to me but rebel are still saying I owe them £58.58…after taking advice from OFGEM and citizens advice I have now raised a formal complaint with BG on my behalf. It’s not clear who I’m dealing with at rebel either because it would appear the administrators were called in on the 8th April 2025. If anyone else has had similar issues I urge you to complain to British Gas.

Make Sure To Take Pictures Of Your Meter

I appreciate that the customer support team responds quickly — wait times are short and they’re easy to reach. However, my overall experience has been very disappointing. The call handlers were often rude, dismissive, and reluctant to clarify any questions, which made every interaction unnecessarily stressful.

The biggest issue arose with our final bill, which was massively overcharged and full of inconsistencies. Despite diligently submitting meter readings through their app, some readings were suspiciously removed from the system, and the company frequently provided their own estimates—almost always much higher than the actual readings. Because of this, I started taking photos of the meters to prove their overcharging.

I raised a formal dispute and provided clear photographic evidence with dates and times to support my case. However, the company unprofessionally transferred the case to debt collectors while the dispute was still ongoing, which is unacceptable.

Thankfully, I’ve since moved to British Gas, a much more transparent provider. I’m genuinely relieved to have switched, as this company’s billing practices were misleading and contradictory, causing unnecessary stress and frustration.

I'm in a dispute with Rebel I raised in…

I'm in a dispute with Rebel I raised in Feb. Then I was told in April they were ceasing trade and said my complaint was closed. I made it clear to them. It wasn't because I didn't get anything resolved.
Of course they landed me with a massive final bill, with no valid explanation

I have now re opened my dispute with British Gas. I want fair and reasonable explanation as to why my bills are so high

But instead of being anyway helpful. They
are threatening me with debt collectors if I don't pay up. That's there idea of good
customer service, threaten and intimidate their loyal customers.
I'm so glad this company is shut down, so it can't cause any more distress to people.

Apparently we can't report them to Energy Ombusman because they no longer exists.
But they still have ability to chase customers down for money, funny that!

I'm trying to put a case against Rebel, if anyone wants to support me with this let me know.

Awful Transition to British Gas

have been billed for the same period by both Rebel Energy and British Gas, and it has left me with a £246 bill from Rebel and British Gas now demanding £175 for that same timeframe. I paid Rebel Energy on 22 April and 19 May 2025, both times £123 — yet British Gas claims they were supplying my electricity starting 5 April.

I've called and emailed numerous times to try and get clarity on billing periods, to cross-check what I actually owe — but still no clear response. On top of that, I can’t even log into my Rebel Energy account anymore to verify anything for myself.

The lack of communication between Rebel Energy and British Gas is appalling. It is completely unacceptable how customers have been left in the dark and expected to chase down answers themselves, while being charged hundreds of pounds without proper explanation.

All I’ve asked for is a clear breakdown of the billing periods and for Rebel to communicate directly with British Gas to confirm the payments I’ve already made.
Do not bother replying with the usual “If you'd like to resolve this, please contact us” — I ALREADY HAVE. Repeatedly. Still no help.
Sort this out. This is NOT how you treat customers.
