Unprofessional, buggy software
As someone who bought a suite of their software, I would not recommend it. There are a bunch of bugs that do not get fixed, nor will they try to fix them. The support forum is "moderated" meaning that you cannot complain about how there a bunch of unanswered posts about bugs and problems. The ticket support staff will just send you back out to the forum without investigating any of the bugs. I've hit a wall where the project I'm trying to do can't proceed because of the bugs so now that 1k or whatever is worthless to me and I also wasted my time with it. You can just take a look at the support forum they have with many unanswered problems dating back months ago. Seems like they spend all their development time on selling their products with demos instead of making them usable and supporting them.
Encouragement to continue on the right track
Let's be clear, the previous negative reviews, in the always tricky context of long-time users who have spent fortunes and still have to spend for fully-paid upgrades (Reallusion doesn't practice paid-up upgrades, at the very least), are legitimate. Let's be honest, you won't find a better character creation and animation solution on the market.
As for the rest, I think they've greatly improved by limiting the number of intermediate plugins that previously existed with CC3/IC7 versions (pipeline edition etc...). Since version CC4/IC8, you theoretically no longer need any other plugins to create your own character and animate it... unless you want to create your own motion captures with third-party hardwares or greatly improve character customization (and even then, if you're experienced enough, you can do without intermediate plugins like Headshot and other creation aids)...
It's been a long road for Reallusion, but they seem to be improving with time and responding favorably to user expectations: the attention paid by many professionals to the new version (CC4/IC8) is a sign of recognition and constant improvement. If you're even the slightest bit of an expert in the field of film creation, and if you're honest, you can't deny that the CC4/IC8 pairing is the most accomplished tool in terms of character creation, customization and animation facilities for independent studios with low production budgets.
What's more, (free) export capabilities to real-time 3D rendering engines have been perfected. As far as I'm concerned, the 3D software industry is in a state of flux, with the emergence of artificial intelligence: Reallusion has made an effort by producing ever more functional updates, and by considerably modifying its business practices in a rather financially uncomfortable niche sector... What's more, Content Store/Marketplace services are beginning to proliferate... for better or for worse. Potential asset buyers, however, have strict quality guarantees: you're free to make your own purchases, but the Content Store and asset "certification" are an additional guarantee to avoid disappointment.
This is not really the case with other asset suppliers; add to this the fact that assets (notably Outfit) can be easly adapted to your native character creations... and the time saved is undeniable for those with limited means in terms of production.
In short, yes, "Reallusion's" past is pretty painful, but as I said, they're getting better with time, and that's a sign of serious consideration for a very demanding business sector. And then, before throwing stones, it's true that nothing is ever perfect... I haven't forgotten the dirty work done by "Pixologic", bought out by Maxon... who introduced paying updates after several decades of dearly paid "perpetual" free licenses, not to mention the other players in the sector like Substance Painter, etc. who introduced rather costly subscription practices. It's always better to see a teenager settle down and grow up wisely, than to see a mature person end up badly...
Very bad experience after spending…
Very bad experience after spending >$1000 USD with this company! These products are 2D and 3D Animation software. They are updating constantly. After missing an update (version 4 of CTA) I purchased version 5. I mistakenly purchased a plugin for v4 (where the features are already in v5) and did not realize this until 90 days later. THEY REFUSED TO CREDIT THIS MISTAKE for a lousy $69.00. I'm done with them!
Half of the animations don't work
Half of the animations don't work, and they refuse to refund the non working animations that I paid for.
Behaves as a virus
I tried some of their products and even after unstallation, now I can't delete Reallusion folder from my computer. I mean, I can delete it but it gets copied back in seconds.
Is this company making software that behaves as a virus?
License not valid
License not valid. They play with words, I did work for years creating images and video. Now I did learn I don't have the right to sale my creations. They don't want to refund. They delete messages in support mailbox. I don't trust them anymore. I did uninstall everything. It was a complete lost.
Disappointed with cost of Headshot update
I don't like writing poor reviews, but I'm hugely disappointed with the Headshot plugin being re-released as Headshot 2 rather than Headshot V1.02. I'm an individual developer on a tight budget and CC4 and Headshot were a significant outlay for myself. To find that I'm having to pay $200 (RRP) again for a plugin that I expected to receive updates and new features for is very upsetting and I'm wondering whether I should just cut my losses and look elsewhere (UE5 Meta-Human perhaps). This is not a good way to treat previously loyal customers. It's a shame because the software is reasonable, but I just cannot justify having to fork out more money for updates.
Shady
"Browsewrap" agreements where terms are accessible via hyperlink without requiring explicit user acknowledgment. I don't think that would hold up in most courts. Here is one of them:
"Reallusion reserves the right to make changes to the Terms from time to time without notice to you. All changes shall be effective immediately, please check these Terms periodically for changes. Unless otherwise noted, the amended Terms will be effective immediately, and, your continued use of our Services and Software confirm your acceptance of the changes. The most current version of these Terms, which supersedes all previous versions."
This company is shady with their license. The software itself works, but is expensive. Their license is worded in a way that reaches too far outside of their software and into my product. So I am not sure if it is worth the money, despite how appealing it is. Buy at your own risk I guess.
To be honest if they just allowed users to use the software to full capacity without the weird sketchy license, it would do really well. I think that could earn them some respect for having decent software and a quick workflow, as well as attract more talented artists to their marketplace as sellers (cause the ones they approve now are ass). You don't see many CC4 logos proudly displayed on artstation. It feels like they saw they had something decent and let greed take over.
I actually gave them two stars, but then I remembered that they don't even let you import your own character to use with their system, it has to have some fbx key that they generate with their files lol. I actually want to like this software, but they make it pretty hard.
Utterly incompetent support...
Utterly incompetent support... Or probably they simply don't care.
I've experienced nothing but careless, thin or generic replies when reaching out for help.
I do not recommend.
The automatic recognition of different…
The automatic recognition of different motion skeletons is very time saving. Being able to quickly combine motions from many sources on the iClone timeline, and then easily edit them further, clean them up, re-time them, is quite awesome!
Reallusion's Character Creator is even worse now
Many of the Trustpilot reviews are out-of-date....things have actually gotten even worse at Reallusion, if you can believe it. They have now introduced an additional toxic license element that goes like this....First you pay thousands of dollars for the Character Creator software and needed addons so you can....you know...create characters for your indie/solo/hobbyist/no-budget game. You bought the "Character Creator" software to "create characters" for the "character creation" system in your game. There is literally no other reason you would buy Character Creator for game development. But get this! In order to use the characters in your game's character creation system....you must negotiate separately an additional, unspecified fee with the marketing department! They hold your game hostage! After you paid thousands and worked for potentially years on the product--almost nothing of which has to do with character creator except some character meshes and shapekeys--Reallusion reserves the right to demand whatever it wants from you and prohibit you from releasing your game if you don't pay! None of this is really clear either from the EULA and its multiple confusing licenses which seems to give you the right to use it it games, only to tell you later that it prohibits your use in games unless you first negotiate with a company with a long history of fraud and deceit. This history dates back before Taffi bought Reallusion...when they were known as "Morph3D" and ran a scam on the Unity Store over....wait for it....a scam character creation system (now deprecated and removed from Unity)! They changed their name to Taffi, and started a new scam at Reallusion. I can't see how this is even legal.
This is the worst company I've ever…
This is the worst company I've ever seen, they start by selling you a very good looking and promising software then you see that basic features aren't included and they charge you as much money as the base program for those basic and necessary features. If that's not enough, once you paid for everything to get things started, the company brings a new version of the software and the upgrade costs you two to three times as much money as you paid for the full software when you bought it the first time.
The excuse for the price increasement being that those features you had to pay for in the past are now part of the base software, but guess what, they never offered a special price to those who already bought the extra features so you end up paying for them twice.
If that wasn't enough, they send you emails with big sale discounts that actually don't apply on the current price for a bundle but the main price for every software included so at the end you have the same price as if you wouldn't apply the discount coupon at all, the coupon is actually only meant for you to purchase some useless garbage from their store they cannot get rid off.
Keep your fingers away from this scam of a company.
payment system errors holding your money back
So yesterday i wanted to get CC4,ICLONE 8 and other plugs ins to start my production. I paid first for there prime sub no problem. But when i try to pay for all the software package my card was declined, they reserved the money anyway for the transaction and now they a hold back and reallusion says the problems is on my bank site and my bank says its reallusion that need to release my money back..
really i just want to pay for your guys product and you dont even try to help me to do that.
My bank is not the problem its your custom service
greedy people
Reallusion was a great place for indie game developers but then they went down the deep end changing their content policies and charging an outrageous 3 TIMES the price of the original product, some of these products they don't even own or made but yet they want to charge 3 times the price.
That is poor decision-making and makes CC4 and Iclone 8 or any reallusion software worthless cause without content you can use their system.
I am saddened and I wish I could have been refunded all the money I spent, Their prices were already outrageous, to begin with, but now they became controlled by greed and unaffordable.
Dodgy bait-and-switch licenses
Dodgy bait-and-switch licenses. Operation bamboozle. Avoid
Last ditch money grab by Reallusion
In the new world of community and fair play this company fails in a big way. To spend such a high price for software and all it’s many expensive add-ons and then being asked to basically buy the software all over again to get the latest features is…..Criminal. The only thing that I can think of that would facilitate such an insensitive and brand killing move is that they are doing a last chance money grab. It may have hit them that others like Unreal Engine and Blender are quickly making their product worthless. I am not biting.
Good software - useless company
Good software that has a lot of potential - though everything is behind a paywall to get the functionality of the software. Not long purchased Iclone 7 + 3DXchange now Iclone 8 is now out which doesn't require 3DXchange and no updates are being given to iclone 7 or CC3. The built in presets, when it comes to clothes, beard and hair are absolutely useless. Unless, again, you purchase more packages, which, are also useless. Content store products are very buggy. Reallusion doesn't seem to give a damn about their customers once they purchased their software. To be honest, I hate the company!
Great software held back by poor management
This is a company making good software let down by marketing and pricing that really alienate (and, as can be seen here, infuriate a lot of people). No-one should have to spend so much time decrypting what elusive combination of elements are required to get the functionality they need. I really appreciate the product as part of an Unreal pipeline and, given the cost of even the most bare iClone package it is staggering that you have to pay a lot more to export your work, just as the flurry of assets they sell have an additional price if you want to use them beyond the closed ecosystem if the programme.
I did think that with Unreal’s Metahumans the Reallusion niche would disappear but they have been quick to work with this (and Omniverse), indicating that the tech side of the company really understand their customers BUT this is the polar opposite of the marketing team who seem to delight in coming up with bundling, upgrade and activation schemes that are at best devious but really a lot closer to some of the more serious charges levelled by other reviewers. This is compounded by courting a slew of early adopters who will generate euphoric content on YouTube and elsewhere and given generous bundles of ‘evaluation’ software and assets that leave them ignorant of the terrible up selling necessity experienced by all but the few who can navigate their offerings. Again, I really appreciate IC7 but will resist the upgrade to IC8 because it would take me so long to be sure I understood the full cost to replicate the functionality I currently have. Please junk the alienating business model - it’s not a limitless market and aggravating customers is not sustainable.
Waste your time when it come to…
Waste your time when it come to processing a refund I clearly stated that I want a refund and they try waste time by asking question I never asked them. Give me back my money
The software is good but expensive
The software is good, but the pricing is very unfair. We purchased iClone 6/7 and CC3 (Character Creator), plus the 3D Exchange pipeline. We now find that iClone 8 and CC4 no longer require the exchange pipeline, and we received no credit for the previous purchase. Plus, their product inclusions are fuzzy, meaning you can't be sure what's included until after you buy it. Examples include LipSync and headshot -- We purchased "Headshot" for CC3. No credit for that - It is not clear if LipSync is included or if we have to buy it.
