Excellent quality and value

I was looking for a very firm king mattress, due to some back issues. My former mattress was like a piece of wood (even with a topper), which was fine for me but rather uncomfortable for anyone else. And it was 15 years old, so time for a change.

- The OBC firm version (they have a medium or firm version) is a delight in terms of firmness, I've had it for 5 months now and haven't had a bad night sleep. I could immediately feel when I sat on the mattress in the store that it was firmer than any other mattress I had tried out (Dreams, John Lewis, sleep8, local stores etc...). Obviously, the mattress will have much more resistance when you're lying down on it rather than sitting on it, but that's a good test for me as it's easier to compare between different mattresses. There was very little give, but it was very comfortable as the outer layer is soft enough, contrary to my former mattress. It is quite thick (28 cm), which I guess also accounts for some of the firmness, in addition to the 1500 springs they say the mattress contains. When the mattress was delivered to me, I had some slight anxiety as I felt sitting down on it that it was softer than I remembered. However, after 5 months use, I can confidently say the firmness is strong and appropriate.

- There are some mattresses that will feel very firm too, at Ikea for instance, but they will be made of synthetic foam. The OBC mattress I selected is the Juno wool model, which is 100% made of natural fibers (cotton, wool, bamboo), without any polyester/synthetic fiber. It is their cheapest 100% natural model (there are more expensive ones with silk/ cashmere), and they also provide cheaper models with some synthetic fibers in it. It is a matter of personal preferences, but I would rather sleep in a mattress made entirely of natural fibers, to avoid sweating/ irritations etc, as long there is good value. And I must say at £750 for a king mattress, that's at least twice cheaper than any other 100% natural mattress I've seen, which can easily cost £2,000. When I asked how they could be so good value compared to competitors, I was told this was primarily due to the fact that they manufacture the mattress themselves, in a factory 2h from London, which allows them to save on margins, as opposed to buying the mattress from a manufacturer.

- The only bit that could maybe be improved isn't to do with the mattress itself, but with the delivery system. If you're above the 2nd floor without lift, they won't be able to deliver with their default provider and need to arrange custom delivery. This process was rather cumbersome and I had to chase a few times via email and call to get it sorted out. However, then the delivery itself was brilliant with a lovely chap who went up the stairs in a few minutes all by himself. (The mattress was in stock and so it was delivered after a few days only).

All in all, I'm extremely happy with the quality of the mattress, especially the firmness and 100% natural fibers. Based on my market study, this is the best value that can be found, by quite some margin. Would recommend to anyone.

I needed to replay my super king 18…

I needed to replay my super king 18 year old bedstead and wanted another one with two heights as needed the taller height and after searching the internet with some ranging from £2000 to £3500!! I came across The Original Bed Company & had exactly what I wanted and the reviews were fantastic I ordered my new bed. Although I had to wait between 8-12 weeks as it was a 6ft bed, it finally arrived and we paid to have it assembled and wow it actually improved our mattress. Feels like a brand new mattress and it’s absolutely perfect and so sturdy. So well made and definitely when I need to replace it again in a few years time and the Original Bed Company still around I will be coming back. Thank you for an amazing product.

Overall happy

Good communication. Came in 10 weeks which it stated. Instructions easy to follow. All parts there, no damage. Good sturdy bed. Happy with our purchase and would recommend.

Guess who got the Friday afternoon bed and mattress! And no apology or compensation from customer services…
The metal bed looks very nice, but I’m not sure it was worth the hassle to get a new part without the rust, and a replacement mattress without the burn hole in it!

We try our best, and while issues do happen we pride ourselves in our ability to solve issues for customers. This is definitely not a usual occurrence and of course all these issues have been fed back our production team. I spoke to you multiple times on instagram and did in fact apologise each time for this issue, so I am disappointed by the fact that you say no apology was given, when in fact I personally apologised many times. However, if you feel that we didn't apologise I once again sincerely apologise for these issues and am glad we could get a resolution for you in place.

Excellent service dispite issues being my own fault

Ordered my bed back in November but didnt get around to putting it together until late December. Opening it I realised I had ordered the wrong size !!! Rang them and explained that I had dismantled my old bed and now didnt have a usable bed and they explained they were extremely busy but would do their best. Within a week I had a new bed which was perfect and they picked up the one which was the wrong size. Excellent customer service, they only charged me £20 for the bigger size and didnt recharge me for delivery dispite living in rural North Wales and it being my mistake.....Unusual these days to get such good service.

Disappointing

2nd bed from OBC. First one is great.
Ordered 2nd bed for my son and it has been a shambles. Ordered Dec 1st and knew I had to wait couple of weeks. Delivery cancelled after slot, first attempt, 2nd attempt not loaded onto van, 3rd attempt only half the bed turned up. So poor delivery company being used. But OBC couldn’t seem to care less, customer service not helpful just moaning how busy they are, don’t do anything to sort it out or reply to phone calls/emails. I understand it’s Xmas and everyone is busy but be helpful and at least reply to phone calls/emails, look to be doing something to help! Son has no bed as dismantled on 1st delivery day. Have requested refund of delivery charges not received and have now requested refund of bed!

Faulty and missing parts...

Received a bed from this company yesterday and hired someone to put it together as I am disabled.

The delivery was amazing and the delivery guys really professional with keeping me updated.

There were various nuts missing for assembly so the person I hired to assemble the bed had to go out and buy some.

The very last part of the assembly required the knobs on the head end of the bed fitting. This required two metal dowels. It seems like both of these had suffered a manufacturing defect. Neither would screw into the hole they were supposed to fit into.

I've called the company this morning and was told in a fairly rushed manner that I should email as I'd got through to sales. The only email contact is for sales so that doesn't make sense, and the only phone numbers are for sales.

So, I've emailed the company asking for replacements to be sent out as soon as possible.

Hopefully they'll get this attended to and I can update this review.

UPDATE: The replacements for the faulty parts were delivered in a timely manner and we were finally able to complete the assembly of our bed.

Ordered my bed 13 weeks ago

Ordered my bed 13 weeks ago, it said 8-10 weeks to manufacture but I called after 10 weeks and they let me know it would be coming 2 weeks later (now three weeks after that).

However my delivery has now been cancelled twice. The second time they cancelled the delivery they said it wasn't loaded into their van due to stock discrepancy so they cannot deliver, which clearly isn't true as it is a custom made product and apparently had already been loaded for delivery earlier in the week. I was patient with the manufacturing delays and understanding the first time the delivery was cancelled, but i'm now very upset after the delivery has been cancelled a second time with clearly untrue reasoning and I cannot get hold of the Original Bed Co or the delivery company.

Just to clarify what happened, we were not late in the manufacturing but a large part of the issues have been because our courier partners have been bogged down with large volumes during BF/Xmas. We do of course apologise for this and hope these issues have now been largely resolved and won't happen again.

We are usually approachable by email. I can see one email come through to use on Saturday which we had replied to by Monday. Our warehouses are shut on Saturday, hence, you weren't able to get in touch. Superbly well made bed

I purchased the Solomon satin black metal bed recently.
I am extremely happy with the purchase. It arrived as advertised within the delivery timeline.
I put it together myself and just needs help lifting it into place due to the weight.
It is very solid, looks amazing and I couldn’t be happier.

Faultless service from start to finish.

Faultless service from start to finish.
I ordered the Hamilton bed. The lead time was 3 to 4 weeks received delivery in exactly 31/2 weeks.
Delivery company was superb. (shout out to BJS) My husband and I dismantled old bed and built new in 2 hours, we are both in late 60s. It took longer to unpack everything and carry it upstairs. Packaging was extensive but essential and most of it was recyclable.
The bed looks fabulous and everything went without a hitch. A well deserved 5 stars.

High quality product, worth the cost

Decided to take a chance on the Original Bed Co's king size Hamilton Low Footend bed, and I'm really glad I did. So I'm writing this review as others were super helpful in my decision. The beds are on the pricier side but the quality lives up to it. The delivery timeline was just short of 4 weeks (as expected) but definitely worth the wait. I was apprehensive as it was being shipped from UK to Ireland. However, customs costs were already covered and it came well secured and packed up with lots of cushioning. Assembly was pretty straightforward and surprisingly easier to put together than a simple Ikea bed. The bed feels very solid and is so so beautiful in person. It feels like the type of bed that will stand the test of time. Thoroughly impressed with the quality and product, highly recommend!

Nice bed but made mess all over the carpet

Nice bed, but really frustrated by the dirt that was left inside the bed frame tubes from manufacturing. This is an email I sent to Nick at OBC and never got a reply:

"...we're pleased with the bed, but the process of building it was very stressful owing to the frame depositing black powder coat paint all over our brand new carpets. That was really frustrating and it's stained our carpets. Some of the tube had clearly not been cleaned of the excess powder after being painted, and it was sitting the tubes as a dust which came out when tipped up. Not impressed."

Beautiful bed for a great price

Beautiful bed for a great price, wrapped very well to ensure no chips or damage would highly recommend.

The only that could be better is for the bed to be taken to the bedroom. But a good strong well made bed don’t hesitate and the mattress was comfortable.

Beautiful beds

This is the second bedstead (and mattress this time) purchased from the OBC. Both times I have been delighted with the products and service including delivery. Great communications from start to finish and two beautiful, high quality beds. I ordered the Juno cotton mattress which is well made and comfortable. The instructions were easy to follow when assembling the bed however, I managed to throw out the centre rail with the packaging but following a call to customer service who advised me to send an email with all the details I was promptly sent a replacement rail, free of charge. Excellent service and excellent products. Thank you.

Bed good, experience dreadful

Bed quality good. Delivery time poor, quoted 8-10 weeks, took 13 weeks and I had to contact company 3 times.

Most disappointing was the excessive packaging, 3 black bin liners full of non recyclable packing, plus all the boxes - for a single bed!! No need for this in 2023 except company not wanting to spend the extra few pence on more sustainable materials. Really really disappointing for a premium product.

Ordered bed months ago in Feb/march and…

Ordered bed months ago in Feb/march and told 8-10 week wait. Beginning of April I sent an e-mail to check on progress but it bounced. Rang the customer service number but no answer so in the end contacted one of the shops, in this case in London. Guy I spoke to confirmed my name, address etc and said it would be 20th April. Still heard nothing so am increasingly thinking they’ll just cancel my order. Communication from this company is appalling and service frankly amateur. The bed had excellent reviews but in retrospect was too good to be true.
Edit So the company emailed me the day after I submitted this review and sorted out delivery. The bed was relatively easy to put together and looks good/ is fairly comfortable and sturdy. For the price it’s good value but the company really needs to sort out customer service. I suspect these beds are made abroad (India) and that explains why the delivery date was uncertain.

Hi Louise, I do apologise you feel this way. I'm not sure why the email bounced as we're getting email from other customers. Perhaps if you try sending it again. I've just checked personally and the email is working. I also spoke to the customer service team and I do apologise for the miscommunication. The product would be ready to dispatch on 20th and should have been dispatched. You should receive communication from our delivery partners regarding delivery early next week. Unfortunately, there is some uncertainty these days because of issues with shipping disturbances in the middle east, so it does feel our communication isn't always as certain as we'd like it to be. The team tries it's best and under the circumstances they've been doing a stellar job. I can assure you that our bed is backed up by the reviews and the team too. We support our customers above and beyond and hope to have the bed with you soon to be able to see that this is the case. Once again I sincerely apologise for these issues and will also send you an email personally to make sure you are kept in the loop.

Excellent quality bed

Excellent quality bed. Easy to assemble. Looks great.

Just a shame that despite paying extra for the bed to be delivered to our bedroom, the instruction wasn't given to the delivery firm. A quick phone call and was offered a refund on the delivery fee.
