The Nextbase OBD Power Cable offers a simple plug & play solution with a 5-metre cable to give you the ability to install the power cable in your vehicle to meet your needs.
By using your vehicles OBD port the Dash Cam will be connected to a permanent power supply ensuring the camera is not only recording while you’re driving but also can access the power in the event of a collision when your vehicle is parked. The OBD port eliminates the need to use the 12V outlet (car cigarette socket). It includes a 90° connector for an easier connection, as well as an LED indicator light to show when the Dash Cam is connected, and power is available. *Compatible with vehicles with an OBD port.

The dash cam is prone to locking up for no apparent reason even though the specified Nextbase memory card is used. Furthermore, some of the footage taken on the dash cam doesn’t play back smoothly but runs at an accelerated speed. The unit looks to be well made but I suspect that the firmware is in need of a severe revision ( I’m currently running revision 30.7) The incorporation of Alexa within the dash cam provides very limited use being that you have to have your smartphone connected via bluetooth and the phone already has Alexa installed anyway. The Nextbase Connect software that has to be downloaded from the App Store isn't capable of displaying the gps data from the dash cam on the my mac's monitor.( Here again a software update might be needed). All in all I’ve very disappointed considering the high cost of the device and the markets apparent high ratings for this product.

Ticket number is 572698 - is 5 days old and has not been responded to.Toyota tell me that it disables the onboard SOS feature if I have a crash as I am useing the OBD port, not sure if this is true.

Much easier than I expected no routing round for fuses etc. only real issue is firebox/odb cover doesn’t sit flush anymore due to wire being to thick to properly bend into the enclisure
