Mr B's saved the day after we had terrible customer service at Topping in Bath. Mr B's were so helpful and a delight to visit. This the way to get repeat business and loyal customers!

Just had our third book spas at Mr B’s. Brilliant! Thoroughly enjoyable experience. We’ve also had several subscriptions with them over the past few years and can’t fault them on the customer service we’ve received - the staff are unfailingly responsive, knowledgeable and extremely helpful.
Don’t hesitate to confidently recommend them to all lovers of books.

My partner bought their monthly book subscription for my birthday and I am absolutely loving it. Great choices, and things that I would never otherwise choose. Have finished most of the books they've sent in 72 hours!

You can go into the shop with an idea of what you want to read about, then come out with tons of those exact recommendations. Tremendous customer service. My absolute favourite

[update]: the store has replied with a curious reply that answered my enquiry. Just a shame it felt like jumping through several hoops. I’ve updated my score to be more reflective of the service, which was polite, if not a little slow.

Multiple phone calls continuously go to voicemail. Email requests go ignored. Not a brilliant first impression from a bookstore held in high regard.

The staff here are very rude. The bookshop openly places making money above customer service.
A member of staff in the shop made derogatory comments about a local author who is also a war hero. This was incredibly disrespectful.
There are many other better bookshops in Bath. Other independent shops with a far greater selection of books are highly recommended. A high street store down the road also has a really great book section upstairs and is a few minutes walk away. Any other bookshop in Bath is better for customer service.

The staff were beyond rude, to busy chatting with friends to bother with actual customers. I wouldn't waste your time or money going here.

A gem of a bookshop. Having done the reading spa, had a book subscription and been to a few author talks the only thing I'm missing is the T-shirt.

I received a gift subscription for 3 books and was amazed by the wonderfully personalized and curated service. Discovered new authors and an unexpected selection of genres that covered niche topics. So much nicer than an Amazon algorithm!

After spending £350 online,I've received an email telling me my order is complete..
No details about delivery, I have phoned the store, had to leave a message!!!!.. And emailed without reply..
Appalling customer service..

I had a subscription given as an Xmas present. I filled in my likes etc and was sent several suggestions until one sounded appealing.

However the book that was actually sent to me was by a completely different author - and was one that I'd already read!

With the system this retailer uses one can't actually see the specific book they are recommending - only the author - nor what they've recommended in the past.

I've just found myself returning books that I didn't want and have now cancelled the subscription.

Save yourself a lot of hassle and just visit a bookshop!

Excellent! I was given this as a present from a friend, Sue was very friendly but also very knowledgeable. Sue listened to my likes and dislikes and I left with an array of books. Thank you Sue - from Liz (savoury customer).

A lovely Christmas present from my daughter. I have loved all the books selected for me, which introduced me to some great new authors. I look forward to reading more works by them. Sadly, I’ve just taken delivery of my last book, but I have already dropped a hint for my next birthday.

I got a subscription as a gift and I'm really enjoying it. I can tell that the people selecting my books really took into consideration my answers to the questionnaire, and then sent me things just a bit beyond my usual comfort zone. I've had some great discoveries and would highly recommend if you're in a reading rut.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my book subscription. It’s the second one I have had as I was so disappointed when the first one came to an end. Love receiving books that I wouldn’t normally pick up in a book shop (usually just sticking to what I know). My current subscription is coming to an end soon and I might just have to sign up for a third time!

Called in today as it was my old haunt until it went a bit down hill a few years ago. Heard it had improved so called in for a Chicken/Meat Donner in Naan @ £7.50. I asked could he not put my salad and sauce on the Naan as usually by the time i get home it is all soggy. Paid for it then noticed he had charged me £9.20 for it. When i asked why he said he has charged me £1.10 for the salad to be put in a plastic 16p tub and 60p to put it in a .5p tub without informing me there would be a charge for NOT having it on my meal. Got home and the Naan was doughy and under cooked, The chicken donner tasted like it was old and it was very dry. A bad experience which will not encourage me to go back any time soon

Registered my subscription weeks ago. To date have received no book and no contact. Feels like I've been scammed to be honest. You live and learn.

Received the first book from a 6 book subscription that was one of the most hideous things that I have ever read. Chosen by Callum, not sure who Callum thinks I am but clearly he seems to think I am a misogynist.

A woman described, whilst dying in childbirth, as having 'anxious beseeching eyes, like a drowning dog' and 'her howls could could be heard from afar, through the main wards, just as the lowing cattle being slaughtered must be heard in abbatoirs'

I get that the book was written in the 1930's but there was no character development or period references to allow the reader to adjust (or brace yourself) for these inhuman references.

I don't think I could have hated this book any more than I did.

My daughter and I visited Mr B’s Emporium earlier this week during our stay in Bath.
We were looking to delve into a new genre (crime) and the staff there just couldn’t do enough to assist and inspire. The first gentleman gave us some fantastic recommendations and his knowledge of the books was just second to none.
We then wandered towards a selection of poetry books where we had the most interesting conversations with another gentleman in the shop. Gosh I wish I asked someone’s name because they really made a lasting impression on me but mostly my teenage daughter who was experiencing writers block at the time. We would come back to bath just to revisit, thank you all.

Mr B's might be my favourite shop in the world, and I have never stepped through the door!

Around 18 months ago I was looking for gifts for my wife, a keen reader, and I chanced upon Mr B's book subscription, perfect I thought, and it was. So much so that have I bought her 2, and numerous others as gifts for family and friends. All of them have loved the idea and the books received even more.

My wife kindly bought me a 6 month subscription which I then extended by another 12 months and will continue to do so. Every book received so far ( up to about 13 I think) has been outstanding, the staff doing the selecting clearly know their stuff and have introduced me to countless new and wonderful authors.

I have also bought many books directly from them and my wife now simply emails them with a vague theme for a gift and they respond with wonderful selections to choose from.

Hopefully one day soon we will travel to Bath and see the the glorious emporium in person but until then I will eagerly await this months book dropping through the letter box ( lovingly wrapped as ever!)
