A truly outstanding customer experience during the booking phase, which was completed seamlessly from my home in the USA. Despite the usually adverse time differences for NZ, my designated expert (Denisa) provided very prompt and efficient assistance. Quite impressive and much superior to some US companies. Very much looking forward to my vacation experience with this great company.

Although I had a bad experience when hiring a cheapa 6 birth in NZ. Motorhome republic team replied and dealt with it in a reasonable way. Hence giving a five star. Thanks Poornima and team for the goodwill.

I would like to thank Alex for going above and beyond in assisting me to get a motorhome for my upcoming vacation in New Zealand on first week of January 2026. My husband & I decided the last minute to book a motorhome. Alex took his time to search for a unit for me, something within my budget. He sent me an email twice to follow up with me if I am still in search of a motorhome & he also sent me a link of a unit that is available in case I’m interested. When I spoke with Alex on the phone, he answered all my questions, explained everything to me & if he does not know the answer, he made sure that he get the correct information for me. He is very polite, friendly & most of all patient with me.
His customer service skills is excellent! He is very knowledgeable about the products & services the company provides.
I’m so happy with the customer service Alex have provided.
Thank you, Alex! I really appreciate everything!

This is easily the most misleading booking experience I’ve had with any travel company, and consumers deserve to be warned.
I made a campervan booking through VroomVroomVroom (also trading as Motorhome Republic) during the Foo Fighters event weekend in Launceston — a time when accommodation was almost impossible to find. I urgently needed instant confirmation, and nowhere during the booking process was I told that confirmation would be delayed.
The checkout flow:
displayed a normal “Pay Now” button
showed standard credit card fields
looked identical to a typical instant-confirmation booking
did NOT warn me that the vehicle wasn’t secured
did NOT advise that confirmation could take 24–48 hours
did NOT tell me to wait before arranging other accommodation
After submitting the request, the company never asked the essential question every honest “on request” system should ask:
“A vehicle is available — would you like to confirm and proceed with payment?”
Instead, VroomVroomVroom/Motorhome Republic simply charged my credit card automatically the moment they found availability — without my explicit approval at that point in time.
This is a massive breach of trust and a completely unacceptable process for any booking platform claiming to operate ethically.
My bank shows the deposit was taken before I received the confirmation email, yet the company blamed “time zones” — even though the time difference cannot account for the date discrepancy. Their explanation simply does not line up with the facts.
When I needed to cancel because delayed confirmation forced me to secure alternative accommodation immediately, they refused a refund, hiding behind internal system timestamps and rigid policies, despite:
zero upfront disclosure about delayed confirmation
being charged without explicit final consent
contradictory timelines
the financial harm caused by their unclear process
a cancellation page that forces customers to tick new terms that were NOT part of the original agreement
And here’s a major red flag consumers should know:
🚩 They do not allow customer reviews on their Facebook page.
Any business that blocks public feedback on social media knows exactly why — they don’t want future customers to see honest experiences like this one.
Combined with the misleading booking flow and refusal to refund money charged without proper consent, this is not a company I would ever trust again.
Until VroomVroomVroom/Motorhome Republic fix their transparency issues and stop shifting financial risk onto customers, I strongly recommend avoiding them.
I hope this review encourages them to reconsider how they treat customers who were misled by their process and disadvantaged as a result.

I booked a campervan with Christchurch for March. The first one I chose wasn't available, but they offered me other options and called me to let me know. So i booked anoter one and it was good this time.
In addition, when they called me, the speaker take the time to speak slowly and distinctly when i said i was not speak english fluently. So for the moment all id good, next step in Christchurch in march !

The booking process was fine and everything seemed ok until we realised that the underlying company we were actually hiring from was 5Star RV in Perth. If you check out 5Star reviews on this site (or TripAdvisor) you'll see what I mean - their review score averages below 2 stars across all reviews and to be frank quite a few reviewers objected to giving them 1 star (the minimum) and would have opted for 0 stars if that was an option (I would have awarded 0 stars given the option)
The actual motor home we thought we'd booked looked brand new (although they do justify this by saying you aren't guaranteed a new model) but what we were expected to accept on collection in Perth, Australia was old, tatty on the outside (taped up light clusters, dents and scratches down the side) and a disgrace on the inside (pictures available) Worse for us was the layout which turned out to be unusable for my partner who, granted, has mobility issue's but we thought the research we'd conducted before booking in terms of the vehicle layout, especially the WC, had covered this. The pre-hire research turned out to be a complete waste of time. What you get at 5Star in Perth is what they have on site when you turn up and may bear no resemblance to what you thought you'd booked.
Worse still, 5Star rigidly enforce their 'no refund for early return policy' so when we returned the vehicle less than 24 hours after collection (we spent the 1st night in a hotel) and virtually unused they would refund nothing of the 12 day hire cost of AU$3,100. Despite a formal complaint to 5Star (the hirer) and subsequent complaint to Motorhome Republic (the search website) they appear to sing from the same song sheet and strictly apply the small print hidden away in terms and conditions. AU$0 refund.
The final nail in the coffin for me was we didn't realise we paid additional fees to Motorhome Republic to cover any excess insurance charges, collision damage waiver etc So when pushed at the counter in Perth I handed over an additional AU$797.16 to cover excess fees and penalties if something went wrong. I, rather naively, expected that when booking Motorhome Republic would have let 5Star know we'd already paid a premium for this cover but apparently not. AU$0 refund for the double insurance.
All in all a very poor and costly experience and whilst I lay most of the appalling customer service at 5Stars door, if you read the almost exclusively negative reviews on 5Star, it begs the question why Motorhome Republic continue to recommend them as a supplier - this reflects really badly on their ability to offer a top notch product and service hence the 1 star review I've left here. In total we spent AU$3,800 for a 2 hour drive down the Eastern Highway in WA and a 2 hour drive back the next day.
We're pursuing 5Star and Motorhome Republic through Consumer Protection in Western Australia and will update here if we get a result, although the way things look we're not holding our breath.
Update 4/12/2025
Goodness, within 48 hours of posting the original review I received an email from Motorhomes Republic who have re-assessed our complaint and offered a full refund of their charges (AU$3,100) and within 48 hours of the email the refund landed in my bank. They’ve also stated that Star RV have been asked to review their position regarding the additional insurance premium of AU$790. What a fabulous result, clearly their reputation matters to them, offers some degree of confidence that they’re trying to get it right!
