Aeolian Village. Great holiday, but badly letdown by poor bikes
Great hotel / staff (special shout out to Fred in the bike team and Maria who looked after us during all meals) / location / food. The hotel is wonderfully located near a gorgeous little village. The hotel staff were so friendly and helpful with superb cuisine. The room was comfortable and clean – cannot be faulted. The tennis, fitness and water sports seemed well run - more friendly staff with reasonable kit.
However, we were extremely disappointed by low quality bikes which , despite the best efforts of the bike team, were poorly maintained. With a fleet of around 40 bikes, being used daily, Mark Warner are crazy not to have a reasonably full-time bike mechanic keeping them all in good condition - it seemed that the only maintenance was being done by one of the road bike guides in between tours. The bike fleet was made up of low end machines where cost has probably been prioritised over quality. Examples include dismal front suspension on the mountain bikes and cable disc brakes on road bikes. On top of which, every road bike we saw needed brake pads changing (with no replacements available), front suspension with verging on dangerous amounts of play and a majority of bike wheels were buckled with loose or missing spokes. There were plenty of stories of brakes failing during a ride - including from us. We were not expecting top end equipment but the poor bike experience certainly took a shine off the whole holiday – we have done similar trips with Neilson on a similar budget but the quality and presentation of the equipment was vastly superior.
Needlessly loud, late entertainment spoilt our holiday.
A good holiday only spoilt by the very loud late night noise from the entertainment, which doesn't start till 9. 45pm. This impacts adversely on the early morning activities on offer and paid for. Why does the music, especially the bass, have to be so loud?
The Mark Warner aspect is great
The Mark Warner aspect is great, however the hotel needs investment and the food quality could be a lot better.
Was exactly what we needed
Was exactly what we needed! Felt like a proper break - Excellent childcare which allowed us the time to relax, lovely accommodation, delicious breakfast & dinner every day, so many fun activities to get involved with & such friendly staff. We’ll be back as soon as possible!
A fabulous week from start to finish…
A fabulous week from start to finish courtesy of Mark Warner and Paleros Beach. The whole resort was immaculate, the accommodation was excellent and the food first rate! Great range of activities on offer and all well equipped. Both the local and the Mark Warner staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!
Terrible Accident
I recently stayed at Mark Warner Kamari Beach, and unfortunately, our experience was marred by a serious incident involving my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. She sustained a severe injury while under their childcare supervision, resulting in three stitches to her chin and a chipped tooth.
Despite being informed immediately, the response from the staff was disappointing. We were left to arrange our own transportation to the hospital and dentist, and there was no follow-up or support from Mark Warner staff during or after the ordeal. Additionally, the company has refused to provide key information, such as a copy of the risk assessment or details about the supposedly "adequate" safety flooring where the accident occurred.
I sent multiple emails to Mark Warner’s head office but received minimal assistance, only to be told that they were not liable and that I should have addressed my concerns in person, even though I preferred written communication for clarity. To date, I feel that my concerns have not been taken seriously, and we have not received a proper apology or assurance that the incident will be investigated to prevent it from happening again.
While the holiday had its enjoyable moments, this lack of accountability and inadequate response has left a very negative impression. I would advise others to be cautious when considering the childcare services here.
Lovely hotel
Lovely hotel , friendly staff and delicious food what more can I say.
I really think the addition of a few e-bikes
even if there is an additional charge would be a good move as
terrain is a little to challenging for us senior members.
(Your main competitor does offer this in some of its resorts .)
We mainly played tennis and coach (Ollie)
was brilliant.
Great holiday 👍
Disappointed with the lack of fitness…
Disappointed with the lack of fitness classes compared with last year.
Only stretch or Pilates/Yoga no morning run/walk no other classes at all ran the entire week.
General indifference from some staff at beach, I had to ask to have equipment put in the water.
They were the main reason I returned to Paleros.
Other guest expressed disappointment with sail instruction and lack of tennis racquets!
This is not a cheap holiday.
I would expect you to have got replacement fitness instructors on site immediately to run the classes.
The MW staff
MW staff fantastic
The room we had was brilliant in great position
Great food, with lots of choice
Loved the beach
Pools peaceful
Beware awful airline which damages luggage
Airline EnterAir is disgraceful. Completely destroyed our infant car seat — it looked like they’d thrown it against a wall. Ripped cover, cracked polystyrene in two places, unusable. I see now on reviews this has also occurred for other passengers. Mark Warner take no responsibility and refer you to the airline, which does nothing. I would strongly discourage using Mark Warner given this experience.
What an unforgettable holiday!
Parts of this hotel and equipment are a little tired, however the staff made our week at Kamari Beach a fantastic experience that we won’t forget. Ten out of ten for the friendly, helpful and well qualified staff, range of great classes and first class tuition.
A beautiful resort but be careful which weeks you choose!…
I’d start by saying that Leah the resort manager is a star, Mark Warner and that resort would be lost without her! She is very friendly, efficient, helpful, great fun and also an amazing tennis coach!
The hotel is beautiful - comfortable, lovely grounds which are beautifully maintained, great food and peaceful.
However, we were there for 2 weeks and the second week was completely different to the first. A corporate company called Mackolic came for 3 days and completely took over the Tiki bar on the beach. An enormous stage was built and extremely loud music was regularly played -booming around the whole resort. At night it peaked and went on until 1:30am. One night a large group of young men were jumping in the pool chanting football type chants at 2:30am, this was directly outside our room in the main hotel and the hotel staff did nothing to stop it. Not did they do anything about the endless excessively loud music despite a lot of complaints from Mark Warner clients. Leah had to take a lot of flack from her guests and did her best to speak to the hotel management but they clearly didn’t care. These Mackolic clients also took over the pool one afternoon for 2 or 3 hours getting louder and louder whilst playing water polo followed by volleyball. It was impossible to swim and definitely not relaxing!! Once again the staff did nothing. It was fantastic when they finally left but sadly this was then followed by a wedding and another private party - also with excessively loud and late music.
We had paid extra to have a superior room in the main hotel building but that turned out to be one of the noisiest places including hearing the reception staff in the middle of the night with a radio playing at 3:30 am and using machinery at 12:30 to clean the floor. We missed early morning classes and cycle rides on several occasions due to lack of sleep. It was a very very noisy and annoying week.
We went to the resort at the same time last year and choose these weeks as they are the first after the school holidays. We expected peace and quiet and that is not at all what we got!
We will not be returning there unfortunately. As I said we love Leah, she is absolutely brilliant and we feel sorry that the hotel management don’t support Mark Warner as well as they should. We understand that they need to fill the rooms and that it is a shared resort but they need to uphold certain rules with regard to noise after midnight.
everything from the start (booking) to…
everything from the start (booking) to the return journey was excellent. Well organised and lovely people at the resort
A celebratory family holiday
We had a very successful holiday, it worked extremely well for our multi generational family with plenty to keep everyone happy. We were a group of 12 ranging in age from 3 to 70+ and were celebrating a golden wedding. Staff, accommodation, and food were all excellent. Range of activities was wide and varied. Child care worked well for all ages keeping children occupied and happy
Great water sports team and location
A lovely location, great people, and a fantastic water sports team. First package holiday since pre Covid, and such a pleasant reintroduction to travel.
Excellent staff
Excellent staff, range of activities and food outstanding. Cleanliness of the rooms on arrival could be improved
Appalling and most upsettingly…
Appalling and most upsettingly disappointing holiday ever! Scammed by this company! False pictures, filthy hotel, puts profits over guests health and safety!
Beautiful bay and sailing area
The sailing area and bay,the whole island really is why we always love Lemnos! The Greek staff are so lovely and welcoming and the food is great. We have been coming here a couple of times a year for about 9 years bar a couple of trips to MW in Corsica and Rhodes. My family are sailors and windsurfers and my husband loves the Sunset challenge and the Big Race-dont know how many certificates he has received over the years!
After being there in June this year we came back with the family on 6 September. We were disappointed that the hotel was so much more busy than usual-due to MW now fully operating it and bringing in other non-Mark WArner guests. Food ran out at breakfast and seating was difficult. The staff were run off their feet.
Even the beach was over crowded.
The waterfront mark warner staff seemed disengaged and the kit area seemed very squashed up and messy. Safety boats were right in front of the new bed area-I guess to accommodate more guests!
We found the waterfront staff to be off-hand and unhelpful-not what we have ever experienced before! And in a couple of instances vey rude-I was shouted at across the beach after expressing concern that my son an experienced windsurfer looked like he was struggling a bit in very stormy conditions near shore but with no safety around. My probably unfounded concern was summarily dismissed in a way which upset me.
Safety was a worry too-power boats driven very fast to beach on shore,no buoyancy aids or rash vest on staff. My son mentioned to the Beach boss on the day of the Big RAce that the staff member running it on the water had no buoyancy aid on and the reply was basically so what “what’s your agenda?” he said. Not how I’d expect a member of staff to speak to a concerned guest. Loud music was played in Ops with clashing music playing from a speaker on a boat near the water.
Altogether I felt it was not a relaxing experience. We still enjoyed sailing paddle boarding and windsurfing but I am a sad that I have felt I needed to write this. I hope things are back to normal next year. Sorry!
Amazing yoga instructor
The yoga instructor, Diane Lee, was absolutely amazing. She adjusted poses to each individual’s abilities, and somehow managed to erase a long standing sore hip!
The food was very good and the rooms spacious and clean.
The resort is very neat and tidy (perhaps a little sterile?) and the flight going out was too early, requiring an additional stay at Gatwick the night before.
It was our second year at Lemnos with…
It was our second year at Lemnos with Mark Warner and sadly felt the resort had lost some of its charm and sparkle from last year. The kids club had just 3 members of staff (versus 6 last year) and the child to adult ratio felt unsafe. This is by no means detrimental to the team looking after the children who did their best and worked tirelessly. But it’s clear Mark Warner need to pull their finger out and get employing. Staff generally seemed a lot more relaxed and happier last year.
The rooms are fine and we couldn’t fault the cleaning team. Food is varied and the earlier kids meal is an excellent idea. No WiFi in the room this year (we had it last year) which was shrugged off by reception. Whilst the resort is a beautiful location it is certainly not 5 star.
The chosen airline Enter Air are appalling. We had broken and damaged luggage/buggy on return and flight delays both years. I think for this reason alone we will be taking a break from Mark Warner next year.
