Mixed experience
This is a mixed review as I had a mixed experience. The website and ordering process was streamlined and easy to use. I arrived at the location before my friends who were stuck at the airport because of a missing bike. As far as I can tell it is a family business with a British guy who runs it with his son and daughter and local mechanics.
When I arrived at the shop it was the father at the desk, who was helpful and even stored my luggage whilst I explored the town until my friends arrived.
The shop is well stocked with energy bars, gels, tyres, tubes etc everything you might need and the bikes are good and well maintained by the local mechanics.
When we collected the bikes the father wasn’t around but the daughter processed the paperwork and the son was also present. The daughter seemed fine but the son was instantly pretty grumpy - no smile, no chat at all, and no please and thank you when asking for IDs, just missing all the basics of customer service. It got worse when two of my friends asked him questions about the bikes - they just got dismissive, useless replies about the technical stuff. We just ignored it anyway and left, far too excited about the trip to let that get in the way.
We had a great three days riding, mostly on the mountains but on the last day of the quieter roads leading down to Alcúdia and back up to Port De Pollenca. On the first day there was a heavy downpour which meant some of the smaller roads by farmland were still muddy as we found out on the last day.
We returned the bikes on the last day after this ride and they were muddy from the smaller roads but we got a surprising reaction from the son. Once he saw the bikes were dirty he got angry - shouting that we’d been off-roading, and when I explained the muddy roads he insisted I was lying, even though I showed him a photo of my friend riding through the muddy bit on the road. He then said it would take him hours to clean the bikes and insisted we pay €40 extra cleaning fee! I’d hired bikes two weeks before in the French Alps and when I returned them they were dropped straight round the back to the cleaning station with no issue - so I thought the same applied with all bike hires. Difficult to clean bikes off when you are in a holiday apartment.
Whether or not we should have cleaned bikes before returning them I think his behaviour was inappropriate and rude - especially calling us liars. As we walked out the shop he shouted ‘pathetic!’ after us and ‘thanks for trashing the bikes’ - very over the top for a bit of mud!
So in summary the store is good, the bikes were fine with good service by the mechanic and owner but the son shouldn’t be public facing - should either be in a behind the scenes role or doing something else. We rented nearly £1000 worth of bikes and would have gone back next year but won’t be again.
