Great Scottish Knitting Tour

I had a fantastic time on the Scottish Highlands Knitting Tour. I am an avid knitter and a yarn snob. I love fibre, starting from the sheep breeds to processing, (sheering, carding, spinning, dying, etc), to finished products. I also love history and the history of yarn and Scottish clothing. This tour was fantastic in that we went to historic places, we met designers, historians, farmers and artists. We went to shops and villages. My need for information was met. I had lots of time to knit. I met interesting people. I am a retired professional and most people were also retired professionals.
The tour guide was really fantastic and our coach driver was also awesome. They had to maneuver us through some very rough weather, and had to shift around workshops and presenters who couldn’t get to us due to road closures. We were safe, well taken care of, and had options available when weather was really miserable. It was great.

I enjoyed the variety of experiences…

I enjoyed the variety of experiences from shops to farms to museums and must-see tourist destinations as well as off the main road drives. I’m very disappointed I missed the announcement that we were swimming at the Aran Islands. My only regret.
Also, there is no better tour leader than AnnMarie. She and David Martin were the best!

Fantastic Shetland/Scotland Knitting Tour

My second review. This was an exceptional tour from beginning to end! Detailed descriptions, clear itinerary, specific accommodations, amazing & talented instructors were all carefully planned. There was a comfort built into the tour because of the professional planning. There was always someone to answer any concerns or questions without delay. Our tour guide & driver were so wonderful! They were knowledgeable, prepared, warm & personable & an important part of the success of our experience. It was just so much fun & I would absolutely recommend this trip & am most likely to take another.

Knitting in Paradise

This was the second tour I have done with Knitting Tours, and it was fabulous! The venue (Parknasilla Resort) lives up to the hype on their website. I didn’t try the swimming, spa or gym, but the walking trails are well maintained and the trails along the ocean offer great views.
The only hiccup was the cancellation of a sightseeing drive along the Ring of Kerry - but there was a good reason. A nasty piece of weather named Agnes! But the group managed to have the resort start a fire for us and we received hot chocolate or Irish coffee which we enjoyed along with some extra time with our instructor! An alternate tour was arranged, but knitters can be an ornery group! We requested a speedy return to Dublin instead so we could get to the delightful knitting store “This Is Knit” and they graciously obliged.
All in all, a spectacular experience!

Amazing Scotland/Shetland Knitting Tour

I recently returned from the Scotland/Shetland Knitting Tour and had an absolutely wonderful time. The trip was very well organized and the fabulous, knowledgeable, funny, Scottish guide Kirsty was able to flexibly time manage and manoeuvre us through all manner of textile and historic sites with ease. To be immersed in the world of Shetland knitting was so inspiring. Not only did I learn lots from these Shetland teachers, but my fellow tour mates were equally inspiring with their beautiful knits. This tour exceeded my expectations and for anyone who has a passion for knitting and all things textile I know they’d love this tour as much as I did.

Wonderful Best of Shetland Islands and Scotland Knitting tour

My husband gave me the Best of Shetland Islands and Scotland knitting tour for a birthday gift. It was an amazing tour for both of us!
As a non knitter there were lots of interesting things for him to see and do. As an avid knitter, I loved the experience of taking classes from the best in Shetland. We had a wonderful lace class with Elizabeth Johnson and fair isle yoke class with Hazel Tindale. Not only were these women so kind, approachable and eager to share their expertise, they shared their lives through stories of their childhood and culture.
The tour guide, Kirsty was delightful. She had a lovely sense of humor and gave us lots of helpful information re history and practicalities of Scottish culture. Our tour bus driver, Colin was very helpful and courteous. He went the extra mile and helped my husband make the ferry when he had to leave 2 days early.
I had never been on a knitting tour before and I found the others in the group were very welcoming and inclusive. I would book another tour with knitting.com in a heartbeat!

A delightful, informative experience

This is the fourth Knitting Tours trip I have taken. This tour met the expectations set be the previous three. Tour guide June was knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around; the couch drivers Jim and Graeme were experts at navigating the narrow streets and tight parking lots, all with a great sense of humor. The tour itself was a good mix of history and sharing the knowledge of expert instructors. The food in the hotels and the various lunch stops was mostly excellent--if there's a criticism, it's that the portions were large, with wonderful desserts!
I think we would have liked more opportunities to visit yarn shops. We had a few really good ones, but I don't think there could ever be too many opportunities!
Overall it was a delightful, informative experience.

The tour was very well organized

The tour was very well organized, hotels and food were great, and knitting sessions wonderfull. I would have liked a visit to a yarn shop, not only with wool yarn. And I thought the visit to the museum in Dublin was not worth it.
Driver and guide were excellent!

Fantastic knitting tour to Shetland

Well organised tour to the Shetland Islands. The tour guide was very knowledgable about where we travelled and some of the history of Shetland. The bus driver was courteous and helpful at all times and willing to go out of his way, as time allowed, to give us the opportunity to see other things. The workshops were run by very talented women who shared their skill and knowledge in a way we could all benefit. The other tourist places were visited were in keeping with the theme of fibre and were interesting even for non knitters. I have come home with wonderful memories and new skills.

An inspiring trip!

I came for the knitting workshops, and left in awe of the many creative designers Shetland has produced. The visits to the designers were inspiring.

Everything was planned to perfection. The accommodations and meals were very good. The people in Shetland were warm, friendly and helpful. The tour manager and bus driver were wonderful. The farewell dinner I will remember for the rest of my life.

When I missed a connection, Irish Tourism was very helpful in getting us connected with the tour. All in all it was a first class experience.

Great trip! I didn't have to do anything but knit!

The trip was wonderful! The tour guide and driver handled everything from picking up our bags from our rooms to meals and hotel stays. I went by myself for my first ever international trip and they picked me up at the airport, took care of everything for the whole trip, and took me back to the airport when it was over. I highly recommend KnittingTours.com!
