bait and switch
bait and switch, when a company sells unlimited access but then make their service unusable unless you upgrade to a monthly plan, what else is left to say
Bait-and-switch
Bait-and-switch: Retroactively stripped features from Lifetime accounts
I purchased a "Lifetime" subscription to VPN Unlimited with the clear understanding that I was paying a one-time fee for full access to the service. Recently, KeepSolid retroactively changed the terms of my agreement. They stripped away core features—including streaming servers, P2P/torrent links, and protocol configurations—and locked them behind a new recurring paid tier called "Loyalty Plus."
This is a complete bait-and-switch tactic. A lifetime contract should mean the lifetime of the product, not a license for the company to downgrade your service down the road to force you into a secondary subscription. Do not trust their "lifetime" marketing; they will change the terms whenever it suits them.
If you are a legacy user facing the same issue, I highly encourage you to file an official consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for deceptive business practices. Avoid this company.
Bought a lifetime VPN..
Bought a lifetime VPN... I guess a Ukrainian Lifetime isn't that long anymore 🙃 service is degraded, no access to lots of servers anymore
Unloyalty Plus! Ukraines is imposing tariffs on us.
On January 19, 2020, I purchased a lifetime VPN Unlimited subscription for $39.99 before taxes, under Order #redacted. I paid the price offered for a full-featured VPN service, with the understanding that the functionality included in that purchase would remain available throughout my lifetime subscription.
Nearly seven years later, I am being locked out of features I previously had access to and asked to pay an additional subscription to regain them through “Loyalty Plus.”
My complaint concerns the removal of existing functionality, including access to streaming-optimized servers, P2P/torrent servers, manual protocol selection, Optimal Server selection, and split tunneling/App Exceptions on supported platforms. These are established VPN capabilities that KeepSolid has identified as affected by the Loyalty Plus changes.
Your own documentation reinforces my concern. Your December 24, 2019 year-in-review article, published shortly before my purchase, promoted streaming access, WireGuard availability on Android and macOS, and Android App Exceptions. Your feature documentation also describes streaming servers, torrent servers, protocol selection, and Optimal Server functionality as features of VPN Unlimited.
Telling me that “core lifetime VPN access remains active” does not resolve this complaint. I purchased a full-featured service. Keeping a basic connection available while charging separately for functionality I previously received materially changes the value of that purchase.
The name “Loyalty Plus” makes this particularly frustrating. Loyalty should mean honoring the commitment made to an existing customer. Removing access and offering to sell it back through a recurring subscription feels like the opposite.
I recognize that maintaining a VPN involves ongoing expenses. KeepSolid nevertheless chose to sell lifetime subscriptions and accepted my payment on that basis. If the original price no longer suits your business model, that does not make it reasonable to ask me to pay again for previously included functionality.
My requested resolution is restoration of the features previously available under my lifetime subscription, without an additional recurring fee. I am asking you to honor my existing purchase.
Please provide a substantive written response within 14 calendar days confirming whether you will restore that access. If you refuse, please provide:
An itemized explanation of the features removed or restricted on my account.
The specific agreement provision you rely upon, together with the version applicable to my January 19, 2020 purchase.
The date and content of any advance notice you sent me concerning these restrictions.
Your proposed alternative remedy, including whether you will refund my original payment and associated taxes if you will no longer honor the service I purchased.
Please do not respond solely with a discounted Loyalty Plus offer or another assurance that my basic VPN connection remains available. Neither addresses the loss of functionality at the center of this complaint.
If necessary, please escalate this to a manager authorized to restore legacy lifetime access.
I paid for a lifetime subscription in good faith. I expect KeepSolid to honor that commitment.
"Lifetime" agreements mean nothing to them
As many others have already mentioned, KeepSolid doesn't honor their "lifetime" memberships and will gladly reneg on their promises and extort users for money in order to keep using the services they've used for years. I won't be using KS at all anymore and will move to another service. I would rather pay more money elsewhere than reward KS's shady tactics.
Scammers.
I bought their lifetime VPN and afterwards they removed many servers and entire countries, and to be able to use them they ask for more money every year. Do not buy anything from KeepSolid because they don't know how to keep their agreements. They scammed me by selling me a product and limiting it afterwards.
I wrote them two complaint emails and they didn't reply.
The actual VPNUnlimited app worked fine…
The actual VPNUnlimited app worked fine until 9.7.1, when the predatory "upgrade" happened, the one that hid core feature behind a new paywall.
They only applied this change to the early adopters that paid a "reduced" fee for the lifetime option. The people that financed the initial development...
I am investigating other providers and not recommending this company or software to any one that asks. It work in IT for a large org, and the staff do ask what we recommend.
Changed contract to their benifit
Have an email from them stating all the features I would get with my lifetime subscription. Now they removed those features and tell me I need to pay more to get those lifetime features back.
They dropped the service for lifetime users!
Bought their lifetime deal years ago as a loyal customer. Now they’ve stripped many benefits included in that purchase such as the removal of all the countries that I used to log into and forced everything onto a subscription model. Punishing early supporters who trusted them is a terrible way to treat customers. Once a solid choice, now just another company that bait-and-switched lifetime users. Avoid as their trust is lost!
Bait and switch
Bait and switch. Scam. The VPN service was never great, subpar at best but since they heavily advertised lifetime with no restrictions or expiration I bit. Now they lock core features and paywalled them in perpetuity which they barely had features to begin with. I will uninstall this and never think about the company again. Never trust a company that lies, scams, and tries to siphon more money from paying customers. They are now trying to include crypto and other things that were cool and all failed 6 years ago. Behind the times, tone deaf company. Good riddance. Other companies luckily have kept their word and trust so we don’t need anything from this company.
Was never a good VPN to begin with but…
Was never a good VPN to begin with but lifetime Subscription atleast made sense. Now even basic streaming server is called premium and locked behind a pay wall. Not sure what year this company is in to call streaming videos a premium service.
A literal LIFELINE for internet freedom in Iran & China – Worth every penny!
While reading the recent wave of 1-star reviews here, it is honestly disheartening to see how easily people living with free, unrestricted internet take this service for granted. Getting 6 OR 7 YEARS of service out of a one-time "Lifetime" payment and then attacking the company over a modest $20 Loyalty Plus upgrade is simply unfair. Running global servers, maintaining bandwidth, and constantly fighting censorship require ongoing financial resources—no company can survive forever on a single payment made years ago.
For those of us living under severe internet censorship and advanced Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) in countries like IRAN and CHINA, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is not just a casual tool; it is our LAST LIFELINE to the free world.
KeepSolid has been on the frontlines fighting internet censorship for 13 YEARS—making them older and far more experienced than most of their competitors in the market today. Almost no other major VPN provider has stepped up to integrate modern, cutting-edge anti-censorship protocols like VLESS alongside robust OpenVPN obfuscation (KEEPSOLID WISE) directly into their apps.
I gladly paid the $20 for the Loyalty Plus plan a few days ago because supporting a veteran engineering team that keeps our connection to the outside world alive is WORTH EVERY CENT. Before leaving harsh and spiteful reviews over a small fee, please remember that this company has spent over a decade actively fighting to keep the internet open for millions of people living behind digital walls. Thank you, KeepSolid team, for not giving up on users in restricted regions!
The state of Keepsolid in 2026
Keepsolid have completely undermined their own business model. Lifetime subscribers shafted by a new “loyalty plus upgrade” to keep features that were included originally. As a subscriber there was no communication prior to the changes, just an enforced client upgrade. Extremely disappointed with how they’ve handled these changes. Their dismissive, repetitive responses will only reinforce decisions for people to move their business elsewhere.
They should have honoured the original terms for existing lifetime subscribers (grandfathered) and introduced these restrictions for new subscriptions instead. People made a long-term investment based on the features and value that were originally promised, and changing that arrangement after the fact is a serious breach of trust.
This is not just about restricting features, it’s about how a company chooses to treat the customers who supported it in the first place. The lack of meaningful engagement with legitimate customer concerns makes the situation even worse.
This was a very poor business decision that alienates loyal customers, damaging their reputation and undermining confidence in their brand.
"Lifetime" LOL
Paid for a "lifetime" subscription a few years ago. Now I apparently have to pay £17 a year. No thanks. Uninstalled.
VPN Limited scam
I bought a lifetime VPNUnlimited subscription in 2022. They promised a lifetime access to a list of features. In October 2026, KeepSolid has put the main part of this features behind a "Loyalty Plus" paywall, making the app unusable. This breaks the initial sale contract. VPNUnlimited just became VPNLimited. Don't trust this company.
SCAM COMPANY
this is such a rip off. I paid extra for the lifetime subscription and now they want to charge more for normal features we've always used! Keep solid is a scam company!
Sleazy company
Sleazy company. Paid users are treated worse than free ones because you've paid. And there's no recourse. Avoid giving them any money - find a more trustworthy provider.
This is not the way you should treat your early backers
As early supporter and a lifetime subscriber to their VPN service I noticed that my router would not connect to the wireguard VPN anymore for my specific use case. Then I noticed they removed it from my subscription without any notice.
Now I have to pay extra. No thanks, that was not the agreement.
This is not the way you should do Business.
Bait and switch scam
Another lifetime subscriber who has been let down by KeepSolid with a bait and switch policy. Cannot recommend them, AVOID AVOID AVOID!
VPN Unlimited (KeepSolid) A Lifetime Scam
VPN Unlimited (KeepSolid) offered a Lifetime subscription & just recently decided to screw over everyone who bought it & supported them. Now they’ve removed 95% of the servers, protocol connections & services that were included, now are behind a new paywall they expect it’s loyal supporting Lifetime subscribers to pay monthly for the exact same services & products that were included in their Lifetime subscription. DO NOT GIVE THEM A PENNY OF YOUR MONEY No matter what they offer. THEY’RE SCAMMERS! There is not a chance after being scammed & ripped off by them that anyone will trust them to “upgrade” with their fraudulent monthly add-on. Their connection networks are sub par low-grade at best! There’s ZERO reason or incentive to stay with KeepSolids mediocre, sub-par service after the way they treated their customers! “ STILL DOUBT
WHETHER YOU NEED LIFETIME PREMIUM? Grants access to all current and future features. All of that can be yours for a one-time payment, Get Lifetime Premium!” What they sold us all was pure lies, upon lies, upon lies!
