I'm in my mid 70's & have been dabbling with my guitar since COVID, I'd got to the stage that I could strum a few popular ballads while I sang along but I knew I was only scratching the surface of g... See more

Written by the company

Experienced guitar and music theory teacher, online and in person. I help guitarists and musicians of all ages and abilities make real progress, whether that's exam success, songwriting, university entry, or just playing for fun. Teaching since 2002, self-employed since 2012, with a 100% pass rate across graded exams (RSL, RGT/LCM, ABRSM, Trinity). I specialise in building practice routines that actually fit the person doing them, and in diagnosing exactly what's holding a student back so we fix the right thing, not just the obvious thing. About 80% of my students now learn via Zoom, joining me from the UK, Europe, the US, and Australia — many found me through my YouTube channel, Jo Bywater Guitar Tuition. I teach guitar (electric & acoustic) from beginner to intermediate, graded exams, and songwriting, across rock, pop, folk, blues, and jazz. My approach is bespoke: everyone learns differently and wants different things from playing, so my job is to work out what motivates you and build lessons around that.

Jo Bywater highly recommended guitar teacher

Our 16 year old daughter attended weekly guitar lessons with Jo over the past year. Jo is an excellent teacher, is polite, friendly and has excellent technical knowledge, which she communicates very well. Jo put my daughter at ease and helped to develop her confidence in playing. Jo was very thoughtful about tailoring lessons to stretch my daughter's playing ability and engage with her interests. My daughter can now play a wide range of Indie and rock classics!

Jo is a fantastic teacher

Jo is a fantastic teacher. I have weekly online sessions which have been brilliant for me. She has a friendly, down to earth approach, a wealth of knowledge and most of all patience for an absolute beginner like me! In a short space of time I have learnt to read tabs, play numerous chords and even thrown in a few riffs. Check out her YouTube channel, it's fab! Thanks so much Jo.

I just cannot speak more highly of Jo

I just cannot speak more highly of Jo if I tried. She has always been so receptive to my input for what I need in my lesson. I’ve had other teachers and they have always wanted me to be in a generic student box. Which I am not! Jo is patient, knowledgeable and an amazing teacher. She’s taught me during 2 separate time frames. One for a one off song for my wedding on my acoustic guitar and then for 2 years after covid where I’ve committed learning electric. I am forever grateful to her

Jo is a fantastic teacher

Jo is a fantastic teacher! I've only been learning guitar for just over a year now and I have learnt so much and I feel comfident in myself to play guitar on my own or in front of someone, She's down to earth and easy to get along with which makes the whole learning experience a lot easier.

Awesome 😎

Jo is an excellent teacher! She brings years of experience and patience and also makes the learning fun . I particularly enjoyed the on- line sessions and these can be supplanted by an awesome YouTube channel .
