Can’t book a ticket!!

Just tried to book a return journey on the app and it fails each time you need to confirm payment with your bank. It seem to forget what stage in the booking process you are at. Also it appears to jump out to the website for seat selection. Waste of time!

Horrible at its finest

Horrible at its finest. I was on my way to get home with my family on the route Dublin-Cork, to get to our station at Limerick Junction as we live in Tipperary, as we said goodbyes to my sister who lives in Dublin we were near the gate to scan our tickets. My mom was having problems scanning her disability card, and the guy was very aggressive from the start with a lot of people who had trouble scanning their tickets, he told one young person to use their head when he was trying to scan his leap card, with my mom he was very impatient and aggressive too, and saw my mom was having trouble passing through and he didnt try to help just stood and chatted with his other buddies and security guards. Then I asked him if he can help my mom as me and my brother have passed through the gate and my mom was still standing struggling. He grabbed my mom's card from her hands and started scanning very aggressively tapping the machine, then he didn't even try to give her her card properly it almost fell on the ground. At the end I got angry of his behaviour and the way he was treating people and doing his job, so I said to him 'to do his job properly and don't act like an as****' his behaviour was outrageous. I was very calm about the situation but it was very unfair how me my mom and some people were treated. After I said that, he stared chasing us and screaming at me to get back he jumped into my face and for a second I thought he will hit me for how aggressive he was acting. Then as he did that he said to me 'you don't talk to me like that, you hear me' he was talking/shouting straight into my face and he forbid me to enter the train so me and my family couldn't get home, we have to pay for a hotel as we couldn't get home. I tried to get some help in Houston station and spoke with another worker and he said he understands but he can't do anything as everyone already went home so we just stood in the station. We had to stay at a hotel and couldn't get back home, we paid over 200 for the hotel, this happened on 02/03/2025, my brother was late for school and I was late to work the following morning. Our tickets went down the drain. Tall dark blonde young Irish male usually at the back gate, remember him and speak about him! I'll try to do everything I can about what happened to us. This is unfair and not his position to do any of this, he needs to be talked about. I'll do everything so me and my family can get justice of what happened. We use this service constantly and never had any problems before. We are traumatized.

Terrible experience

Today on 16.02.2025 in Cork the train to little island was not going, there was bus instead, the bus was all the way on the other side of the train station. I came 5 minutes earlier and they told me the bus was on the other side, not knowing the station very well it took me 3-4 minutes to figure out where to go, I found the bus at 18:14 and was running to make it, at exactly 18:15, 2 buses left for little island, the staff member saw me and a few more people running but he didn't tell the bus driver to wait a few seconds and the bus left right in front of my eyes. It wouldn't be that bad if there was another one in 15 minutes or so, but the next bus was at 7. I was going for work so I had to call taxi and still was late for work. When I traveled the day before the bus was at the front of the train station but today it was on all the way the other side. I think that if you're making such confusing changes you should be more organised especially if the next bus is in 45 minutes, awful service I'm very disappointed

Disaster service

Disaster service! Trains are never in time, delays all the time (leaving/arriving), dirt everywhere, if the seasonal ticket lost - nobody from customer service cares in helping to recover it! Madness!

I tried to get on the 12.25 train from Cork to Limerick. I arrived at 12:24 and asked the two train stewards to let me get on. Both in unison said the train was locked, no entry. I appreciate that I was cutting it close, but it is just a pity that human kindness and customer service is no longer a priority.

Wish I could do a minus 1 star

Wish I could do a minus 1 star, the toilets are absolutely vile on the train I went to go wash my hands after spilling a drink on my hand and when I went to the toilet to was my hands the sink was jammed with tissue paper along side the floor that was full of a pool of urine, and then the toilet seat was absolutely covered in urine I got it all over my jeans and now have to go to Dublin with urine from someone else on the bottom of my shoes and also soaked into my jeans, I’m am genuinely horrified. The toilets are always bad but this genuinely made me so angry and uncomfortable. Absolutely septic

Disgraceful post COVID

It’s never been the same since COVID. Engineering works every bank holiday, delayed trains and a complete suspension of on board catering.

No common sense

Take the train about twice a week commuting Oranmore to Galway. Monday after Storm Eowyn, country in shambles, website wasn't working to prebook ticket with QR code. Long queue in front of ticket machine. Irish rail official checking nobody got on train without a ticket. I asked would he let me on if the train arrived before I managed to buy a ticket as website wasn't operational (as there was the long queue) he said no, you can't get on without a ticket. No apology for website down, nothing. This is Monday after the storm with half the country without electricity. I just got the ticket in time when the train arrived, but was very annoyed about the whole situation. Overcrowded trains and bad service, unfortunately I have to rely on irish rail to get into work. Also, the boarding situation for the 1720 train from Galway to Housten is total mayhem. I have missed that train on several occasions despite having a valid ticket and arriving 5 minutes prior to departure. Nobody knows where to queue, and no staff to help.

Horrible service!

Horrible service!
I usually purchase monthly ticket from Monastervin to Dublin. I lost my ticket and eventhough I had a screenshot of my previous ticket. I was told to pay again.

I find this ridiculous and inconsiderate for customers that constantly commute. I'm going to move to Dublin so that I don't have ever spend money on train again.

Overcrowding and violence

My partner and I had booked tickets online in advance to ensure we would have a seat and that we could sit together. A 3hr journey is a long time to not have a seat and i am disabled. We got on the train in Dublin Connolly to go to Sligo and the booking system that shows the bookings above the seats was broken so our names weren't showing. We managed to locate our seats in the end, they were occupied and the passengers refused to give then to us. Of course noone on the train we can report these things to. I ended up having to sit on the floor in-between aisles which I think is a disgrace, especially considering my mobility issues. I paid for a seat and was made sit on the dirty floor. During the journey a woman got severely violent next to me, injured people around me and the guards had to be called. The train was delayed so we would have missed our connecting bus. We had to get off at leixslip when the guards were called to get a bus back to the city to stay in a hotel until we could travel back again the next day. This time we went by bus, the train was a disgrace. The train was severely overcrowded to the point that people were packed in like sardines in the halls and people were standing amd sitting all down the aisles. No breathing room. This is a health and safety violation not to mention a fire safety violation. You could not get to the doors or even to a bathroom. I advise to travel by bus in future because the trains have no security or anyone to speak to. They are not safe in any way. Ibrang irish rail to report the overcrowding and they didn't care

Full marks for Irish Rail Dublin to Limerick return!

I had a most pleasant journey today with Irish Rail - Dublin to Limerick return via Limerick Junction. Easy to use on line booking. Frequent trains. Both railway stations clean and bright. Trains left and arrived on time. Pleasant staff. Comfortable seating with phone charging. Couldn’t ask for more!!

Dublin to Belfast train

Just wanted to thank Willie at Connolly Station this morning, for all his help today in showing us how to pay for our parking. He walked us to a ticket machine and helped us do it. He went beyond his job and was really helpful. Brilliant customer service.

Awful

Awful, a booking issue every single trip, seats show green yet are still reserved. Booking just makes the lives of commuters more difficult as they’re the ones who are booted off of their seats. This system creates constant conflict. The train is always delayed making some have to get earlier trains (sometimes hours earlier) just in case of a the high likelihood one is delayed. Often trains are stopped for hours with no reasoning.

I wish I could give minus 5 stars.

I wish I could give minus 5 stars.
Irish rail is an absolute disaster. The M3Parkway train to and from Broombridge is never on time....never.
I get on in Hansfield in the mornings at 07:14 and at the very least there is disruption at least once a week. I arrive at broombridge and the Luas pulls away just as 30 or 40 people get to the doors.
I arrived at broombridge last week at around 7pm, I was on the platform 20 minutes whe I heard an announcement that all trains were cancelled. I had to get a bus to Finglas then from there to Blanchardstown SC, then a 3rd bus to Ongar. I got home at 10.30pm.
Every day this week the train from Broombridge is late.
I lucky to get a seat an any of these journeys.
Irish are an absolute disgrace

Irish rail more like Irish fail

At least a minimum of 10 minutes late each time! All they ever post about on twitter is even the constant delays.

I’ve repeatedly been late due to the trains not arriving on time. The trains are also packed to the brim with people. Rarely ever get a sit or get be able to stand without having someone else on top of you. It’s shocking the pricing we pay for a ticket and the service we get.

Irish rail you seriously need to change!!
