I would like to say that I am disgusted…

I would like to say that I am disgusted that they are trying to keep their trust pilot score up by forcing people to leave a review when they are booking.

First off they changed where we had to pick up the vehicle at the last moment. We had to figure out the public transport system in a foreign country to travel 30 miles to get it.

They changed our vehicle - a free upgrade which was great. Apart from we had to return it the next day. We explained we were not able to do this due to travel commitments - they were welcome to pick it up from us. They allowed us to keep the upgrade for the duration of our holiday which was good. This had already been agreed by their head office.

The van was rough around the edges. I wouldn't have been happy at all if we had paid full price. However we were happy as it was a free upgrade.

The thing that really really annoys me is their lack of customer care. We broke down and only had their bot to help us. It took 15 hours to connect us to someone, luckily we had not been stuck at the side of the road that whole time as we managed to fix the vehicle ourselves. However the issue was ongoing and due to lack of confidence in being able to get help if needed we decided to return the vehicle early.

I would strongly recommend not using this company. If you break down at the side of a road in the middle of nowhere they will not be there to help you. The customer service is shockingly bad.

We were lucky to have some mechanical knowledge to be able to get the vehicle moving. The bad reviews are pouring in and their rating is being kept up by them forcing people to leave reviews when booking.

Rents dangerous vehicles. Van had battery offgassing toxic fumes ! Avoid !

Had a van for 12 days. The experience was very dangerous and not to be repeated: I was exposed to toxic fumes and given bald tires. The customer support received from IndieCamper was abysmal; they were aware of the issues and did nothing repeatedly when asked for help almost daily.

It started when the pickup address on Indie Camper online customer account and on GoogleMaps was wrong. They had moved to a different location well over 20 minutes away. It took me an hour on hold with customer service to be informed of this while being left on the side of the road in 45-degree heat. It also incurred extra costs.

Upon arrival, I was given a different van than the one listed online. I was told that my original van was not available, so they were giving me this one. The switch was not documented on my account, so I had no instruction manual or help for the different model. I believe this van had been set aside for repairs and was in no state to be driven. It came with no registration. The front tire was bald, which is extremely dangerous when you are supposed to drive it across the country. It got so bad I had to bring it to a tire shop and get it changed myself.
The van was given to me with no house/leisure battery and no key to the water tank. So I had no access to water and could not use anything around the van until plugged in (or so I was told by the depot team). Once I finally plugged it in (and had to purchase myself the missing key), the truth appeared. The inverter was broken, and the battery was defective, which they knew all along. When plugged in, the house battery would overheat and offgas, leading to the emission of toxic fumes in the cabin. It got so bad over the nights I was exposed that it reached a point where the air had a horrible odor, and the CO/Propane alarm would go off every 5 minutes. We were just unable to use the battery.

I started contacting support on day 2/12 of this trip. I told them about the inverter and battery issue (I even stopped at a mechanic who confirmed it and advised them to make an appointment with a mechanic further along, as the invertor part needed to be ordered). Customer service kept going in circles. I told them the issue and that I would be in Denver on a given date 3 days ahead of time. I repeatedly requested to exchange vans at their Denver location. They could have scheduled either a mechanic appointment or changed vans. For the next three days, I contacted them repeatedly to make sure they were setting some things up/ warning the depot I was coming. Nothing was done. I had to keep driving to meet the return deadline. Without any house battery, essentially driving a large gas guzzling coffin,I then had to stop to replace the tires as already mentioned. I am flabbergasted at how dangerous the whole experience was and how little anyone at the service center cared.

I do not recommend Indie Campers. I understand now their online reputation. I usually give the benefit of the doubt given that people tend to write about bad experiences and not good ones. But do not make that mistake. It really is that bad.

Headquarters should be ashamed of the customer service they provide, and of the very very dangerous vans they have on the road. Avoid avoid. I feel very lucky that I escaped unharmed.

If there were a no star rating I would…

If there were a no star rating I would give it. The pick up experience was terrible it took three hours. First on the website when booking the pickup showed at the airport, however when the address of pickup was given the location was 20 miles away. The employee was completely clueless about the vehicle or booking. Picking up the vehicle took 2 hours of waiting to be helped and another hour to check out. When we pointed out several problems with the vehicle such as a broken table, broken sofa, dents and broken reflectors, he just shrugged and said we could take or leave it. (We later found that the hot water heater was also defective) Of course since we already had paid for the complete booking there was not much “choice”. The contract was “emailed” to us which doesn’t help when we were traveling in an off grid location. After asking multiple times about items such as mileage and gas and being reassured that there was no mileage overages or gas fees by the employee we returned the vehicle to be charged for the exact items that the employee had promised us would not be an issue. The employee told us they didn’t have the authority to talk to us about our concerns but we would be contacted before the charges were made. That of course didn’t happen and we were charged almost double the booking cost with no contact from the company. Multiple attempts to contact the company about the issues were unsuccessful as the AI bot had no response to concerns and there isn’t a way to contact a human. This is an absolute scam and a good way to pay to ruin your vacation.

Our Experience with Indie Campers – What I Wish I Had Known Before Renting

I don't typically write negative reviews, but after our experience with Indie Campers, I feel it's important to share it so other families can make an informed decision before booking.

From the moment we arrived at the Indie Campers pickup facility, it was clear things were not operating well. The warehouse was chaotic, dirty, and extremely disorganized. Families were waiting for hours to receive their vehicles, and although the staff members were polite and doing their best, there were simply not enough employees to handle the volume. We were initially told to return two hours later, and even then we still had to wait before our RV was ready.

When we finally received the RV, it wasn't even the model we had reserved. Even more disappointing, the interior was extremely dirty. None of the optional extras we had paid for—including bedding and kitchen supplies—were inside the vehicle. We were told to search through the warehouse ourselves to find replacement items, which felt more like digging through a storage facility than checking into a vacation rental.

Because the RV did not feel sanitary, we immediately had to make an unplanned stop at Walmart to purchase cleaning supplies, towels, and other basic necessities before we felt comfortable letting our children use it. This added unnecessary expense, time, and frustration to what should have been the exciting start of our family vacation.

Unfortunately, the problems didn't end there. Throughout our trip we encountered multiple maintenance and safety issues, including:

* Several windows were missing proper safety latches, causing them to repeatedly rattle open while driving—a significant safety concern, especially with young children onboard.
* Parts of the generator assembly began coming loose during the trip. My husband had to stop, purchase tools, and make repairs himself just to continue safely.
* The RV entry steps felt unstable and appeared as though they could detach at any time.
* Overall, the vehicle clearly had not been thoroughly inspected or maintained before being rented.
*
One of the most telling parts of our trip was that we met several other Indie Campers renters at campgrounds throughout our journey. Nearly every family we spoke with shared similar stories of long pickup delays, poorly maintained RVs, missing equipment, and disappointing customer service. It became clear that our experience was not an isolated incident.

We spent thousands of dollars on what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime family road trip through Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Arches National Parks. While the destinations were incredible, dealing with the condition of the RV and the constant maintenance concerns added unnecessary stress throughout the vacation.

If you're considering renting from Indie Campers, I strongly encourage you to research recent customer reviews before booking. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend them, especially for families traveling with children where cleanliness, reliability, and safety are essential.

I sincerely hope the company invests in improving vehicle maintenance, cleanliness standards, inventory management, and staffing so future customers receive the quality of service they expect and pay for.

Absolutely awful experience

Absolutely awful experience. I would strongly advise anyone considering renting from Indie Campers to look elsewhere.

When we arrived to collect our campervan, there were no staff present and we had never been informed this would be the case. We were left waiting while a QR code simply stated that someone was on their way. After spending 5 hours and hundreds of phone calls we were able to pick up our van.

The campervan's refrigerator then failed to work for the entire trip, meaning we couldn't keep food or drinks cold. We had to throw away food and was promised compensation at check out (8 weeks ago still haven't received it.). To make matters worse, I was sent another customer's personal information during pick up, which is a serious data protection issue. They didn't seem to care about this problem.

The handling of my complaint has been very poor from day one. Communication has been inconsistent, inaccurate, and many of my concerns have either been ignored or dismissed. Serval emails later they have denied any data protection breech after 2 weeks ago apologising for it and stating they have no record of it. they lied on emails and when i corrected them with the facts and screen shots they went down to being peak season and there is nothing they can do.

Overall, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I would not use Indie Campers again and would not recommend them to anyone.

Absolutely not recommended. NEVER AGAIN.

Absolutely not recommended. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER Again.

It's 2 weeks I'm trying to change my reservation through the chat and I received an answer only during night hours, a different person pick up the chat but the question stay the same:"how can I help you? Just tell me what change you want to make and I will do it for you."

I honestly think their CS is making fun of me, otherwise it dramatically s*ucks.

2 days ago I expressed my feeling and threatened to cancel my reservation and finally something moved. At least looked like: a guy told me I made the chances I wanted and today I checked and it was not true.

I am honestly exhausted from this, I'm planning my holiday and it became more stressful than working.

I tell you more, 2 years ago I relied on Road Surfer and everything went as smooth as possible.

Go to Road Surfer website if you want have a pleasant holiday, people that treat customers this way do not deserve you time and money.

AND THIS IS ALL TRUE. I can prove it that I used Road Surfer and that I can share all the screenshot of their emails in the last 2 weeks.

EMBARASSING SERVICE.

THANKS FOR NOTHING,
LUCA LORUSSO
