Worst rental expérience ever

Our experience with Indie Campers during our US/Canada road trip was unfortunately extremely stressful and disorganized from start to finish.

First, we were sent to the wrong pick-up address that had been confirmed by email, which immediately caused delays and additional transportation costs. Once we arrived at the correct location, we then had to wait several more hours because the original van was unavailable and paperwork for the border crossing had not been prepared properly.

Things became even more concerning when we discovered that the insurance documents inside the vehicle were expired. After contacting support, we were repeatedly sent additional expired insurance documents, which created a very stressful situation while actively traveling. It took them 2 days to gather the correct document.

The biggest issue happened after the start of our trip, when Indie Campers informed us that the vehicle they had provided was not authorized to enter Canada — despite the fact that our itinerary and final drop-off in Calgary had been known from the beginning.

Because of this error, we were forced to drive nearly 1000 km in less than 48 hours to exchange the vehicle, losing approximately 3 days of our road trip, spending a lot of money, and completely disrupting our travel plans and professional content schedule.

Communication was often slow and inconsistent, and we had to spend a significant amount of time following up ourselves to resolve issues that should never have happened in the first place.

To their credit, once the situation escalated, some members of the team did acknowledge responsibility and eventually reimbursed the approved expenses after a lot of follow ups. However, the overall experience was exhausting and far below what should be expected from a camper van rental company.

I hope this review encourages Indie Campers to seriously improve their operational organization, vehicle preparation, documentation process, and customer communication.

Do not trust!! Hidden fees, terrible customer service

Recently rented a van for my trip to Scotland. The company I booked the RV with originally was Bunk camper vans out of Edinburgh. Bunk was purchased by Indie less than a month before my trip. Immediately communicating with Indie was very difficult.
I had already paid in full for the camper but a few days before leaving I got an email that said I needed to check in and that there was a 97 usd service charge.
I called Indie and they of course could not put me on the phone with anyone who had answers. They called me back and said "go ahead and check in, you won't be charged a service fee because you booked with Bunk."

I was charged the service fee.

Upon picking the camper up I was told that I would be refunded the service fee when I dropped it off. When I dropped it off I was told I would have to file a ticket with Indie because they were unable to issue the refund IN THE OFFICE! Every person we spoke to in the office said I was not supposed to be charged the service fee. I was specifically told by a man named John that I would be able to get the refund because Bunk did not charge a service fee and I should be held to those standards since I booked with Bunk not Indie, but no one in the office was able to help.
I am a teacher on vacation and 100$ is a lot of money to me.

And also, the shower in the van was terrible and leaked. On night 1 we noticed a dramatic leak that flooded the camper whenever we tried to use it.

Very frustrated with Indie, do not trust them!! It has been a month and no one is willing to help refund the fee.
