Nice rucksack - mysterious delivery timing
Received my roll top rucksack and I’m very pleased with it. Delivery timing outside of the U.K. seems a bit opaque to me. While it was on its way, I experienced multiple days with no clear idea of where the delivery was or how much longer it would need before arrival.

Top notch bags,, quality through and through!! I’ve got two of your bags the first ‘smith the roll 18ltr’ which I still use and going strong after 5-6 years of heavy use and the second recent purchase is the bigger ‘original roll 25ltr’ with the pockets which I always wanted,, and got immediately once I saw your back in business!

I was disappointed with the new quality…
I was disappointed with the new quality of the Millican Daypack, as I felt the bags looked better a few years ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t like the product and decided to return it.
I understand that I needed to pay for the initial shipping, but I was a bit disappointed that I also had to cover the return shipping costs (€14.95), bringing the total shipping cost to €20.
That said, I would like to mention that the customer service communication has been very good throughout the process, and I appreciate that. I have not yet received the refund, but I trust that this will be handled correctly.

The Core Roll Pack is part of a more accessible range we trialled using fully recycled materials, but we understand it’s not for everyone and don't plan to restock it. Just to clarify, the original shipping cost is refunded with returns – the only charge is for the return. We're pleased to hear our team were helpful, and your refund will be processed shortly after we receive your return.

The design is great however the new synthetic fabric is not pleasant and smell chemicals. From far I prefer the natural fibers with wax on it on the previous model.

The material is actually almost identical to the old version, with a very similar cotton/recycled polyester blend. The main difference you're noticing is likely due to the coating: we've moved from a paraffin wax finish to a custom PU coating. This change was made to improve durability, give a cleaner hand feel, and offer better resistance to marks and scratches — all while keeping the fabric PFAS-free and sustainably sourced.
We understand that the classic waxed finish has its own appeal, so your feedback is helpful as we continue refining our designs.

Great bags. The best I ever had, which is also why I waited and waited for them to get their large size rucksacks back in inventory. I had to fix my old Milican rucksack several times. It was worn out, but I just could not reconcile me with anything lesser than Milican.

Low quality bag feels like a defect
The quality of this bag is extremely low, the two shoulder straps for the backpack was uneven, the folded parts of opening are asymmetrical between left and right, the sewing/stitches was misaligned, the zipper was not smooth, and the strings on the zippers are way to short to grab and hard to use, the fabric is very thin and doesn’t feel durable. Overall, this bag feels like a defect and not even remotely close to the quality of my first Millican. I would have returned it, but they ask you to pay for the return shipping. I was very excited to see Millican coming back, but now very disappointed with this significant quality drop after the shift of the ownership :( The quality really doesn’t match the price.

discount, business strategy, material
I bought a backpack. But then I got a newsletter saying everything was 40% off… I don’t think that’s a good business strategy. I had an old Millican 25L, but the new one has a harder fabric and the material on the back and straps is like on sports backpacks, it’s not as nice and comfortable as on the old backpack.

You’re right that the fabric has changed. We recently reintroduced Bionic® Canvas to the Smith Roll Pack — a rugged, durable blend of 67% recycled polyester (RPET) and 33% cotton. It’s a more hard-wearing material compared to the previous 100% RPET Dalton Canvas, and it uses ocean-recovered plastics along with a PFAS-free water-resistant finish. While the design, including the back panel and straps, remains the same, the new canvas does have a firmer feel, which might explain the difference compared to your original bag.
Regarding the discount — if you could forward us the newsletter you received, we’ll be happy to refund the difference.
