Our family of seven had such a great holiday. The house couldn't of been more perfect. So much space to branch out and do our own things. The games room was perfect for the kids to play ( and adults) my daughter loved the dolls house and spent lots of time playing with it. The bedrooms were spacious and beds were very comfy. The amount of bathrooms were perfect for the amount of guests we had. The TV came with a soundbar which was amazing when watching films etc. The house was clean and everything was of high quality and standard. But you were still be able to relax and call it a home from home for the week. The kitchen was so well equipped with enough cups and cutlery etc. Dishwasher and coffee machine too. The utility room was so helpful with a washing machine, a doggy station, another fridge and an indoor and outdoor clothes drier. Which was so handy to wash and dry wet towels/clothes. The garden was lovely with ample space to enjoy. We dined outside in the lovely weather on many occasions. The hosts were fantastic. Let us enjoy our holiday but was there straight away at a text or phone call. Even dropping some batteries off for the Nintendo wii the following morning for us. I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you . For holiday cottages as a company we're also fantastic. I couldn't log into the app to view my booking details so I sent an email. Then someone rung me straight away and talked me through my issue on the phone. They were so patient with me and made the whole experience just that little more personal. The booking was so simple and everything just flowed so we fully recommend holidays cottages to anyone. Thank you

Double booked holiday cottage – completely unacceptable handling

I am absolutely appalled by the way Holiday Cottages have handled our booking.

We arrived at the holiday cottage we had paid £2070 for and booked, 12 months prior, through Holiday Cottages, only to discover that it had been double booked and was unavailable.

This should have been an issue for Holiday Cottages to resolve. Instead, despite calling them multiple times after arriving, we were left without suitable alternative accommodation and had to find our own solution. Meaning 2 members of our party had to travel back home, we couldn’t with two autistic children and having driven for 4 hours to get there.

We were forced to pay for a hotel out of our own pocket, which we only managed to secure because our family knew the people there. We should never have been put in this position in the first place.
This has caused us significant unnecessary expense, stress and disruption to our holiday.

What makes this even more unacceptable is that five days later, Holiday Cottages have still not properly resolved this or provided us with a suitable response. We contacted them repeatedly when we were actually stranded without our booked accommodation, yet we were effectively left to sort the situation out ourselves.

We did not cause this problem. We did not double book the property. We did not cancel our stay. Holiday Cottages took payment of £2070 for accommodation that was not available to us, and then failed to provide an appropriate solution when we arrived.

We should not have had to rely on family connections to find somewhere to sleep, pay for a hotel, lose the food we had ordered, pay for multiple meals out and then move 3 times until we could secure accommodation.

This is not what anyone should reasonably expect after booking and paying for a holiday through a reputable booking platform.

Wonderful location, just far enough away from the A66, views are fabulous. Lovely property with some really nice features. Well appointed and very comfortable. Booking process was straightforward. Communication from the owner was really good, clear information sent in good time. Would recommend the property

We loved our cottage and our stay.

The views down the forest are fantastic so most mornings we had breakfast in the sun while watching the buzzards and some evenings we could watch them while having a drink or dinner. The wildlife is great and we saw a total of 7 stags very close to the cottage during our stay. The road itself doesn't have a pavement until further down so having a dog and a young child we didn't walk down into the village but we didn't need to; walking up the lane away from the road is a great short walk for dogs and children.

There's lots of information at the cottage on places to go. We didn't drive more than 10 minutes away for most of our stay and visited a few of the Forestry carparks for walks seeing stags, boar, and a kingfisher. We also visited Tintern Abbey (a bit further afield) and Goodrich castle. There were lots of nearby places we didn't get to and loads more within an hours drive. We highly recommend the 'Ye Olde Ferrie Inn' about a 10 minute drive away! There are plenty more recommendations in the book at the cottage. We'd love to come back again.

Booked fairly last minute, but the lady I spoke to was very helpful as I was unable to use the website. The website needs improvement as I was unable to log in even though I am a previous customer.

Absolutely stunning location and the comfiest bed I think I've ever stayed in. The house is beautiful and was perfectly practical for our purposes. The team was mostly responsive. I wouldn't say they go above and beyond, but the location alone probably makes it worth the (significant) cost.

We really enjoyed our stay at Melstock! The place was clean, comfortable, and even better than the pictures! Very well equipped too. The host was really accommodating and helped with all our requests. The home is really spacious and has plenty outdoor space too. The perfect holiday home in the most beautiful location.

The staff at Holiday Cottages were incredibly helpful, especially Suzanne.

The booking of the holiday was trouble free. The only issue I had was I was sent an incorrect postcode, which wasn't too much of a problem as it meant we got to explore a little more of the area. Other than that no issues whatsoever. They answered my question quickly and professionally. Kept me updated about the booking. 99/100
