If you take a pawnbroking loan from them even if it's only for a day or two, they will charge a minimum of 28 days intrest as they did with me over a lot of loans, but one thing they certainly won't tell you is that you're entitled to withdraw from the contract, meaning you only pay interest on the days you actually borrow the money, and not for the 28 day minimum.
They also don't communicate with you when you write to them about it

I’ve been shopping at H&T for many years, and so do my family members.
I’ve added a review of a deceitful, arrogant and disgusting experience.
I went to this branch on 17th March to pick up a ring which I had on layaway as I had put two deposits, one of £35.50 and the other of £200, totalling £235.50.
On 16th March, H&T started a 20% sale on selected jewellery online and in-store which is most products except - coins/soverigns/bullion/earrings and some new items. The window in this Croydon branch has the POS signage, some other stores didn’t which is misleading customers, and being dishonest for the actual true price an item should be.
Therefore, as the rings price is £355, I only had £48.50 remaining to pay as the onyx/signet rings are 20% off. I browsed the window, and all of the items except the ones I listed above were on sale (practically their whole window).
I then went inside, and let the colleague know I wanted to take the ring out, she said I had £119.50 remaining instead. I let her know that this ring is on sale, as I had already taken out other items from other stores which were also on sale. She the called her colleague Maggie, who came to the window where I was, looked at the contract, never said anything to myself, went to the back to collect the ring, and didn’t come back.
Then an arrogant, self-entitled individual named Robert, called me by my first name abruptly. This was very unprofessional. Robert - I don’t know you, nor do I like you Robert!
He also said “it’s £355, it’s not on sale, only selected items are”. And “do you want a refund?”. What a silly question to ask, does he think I travelled all the way for a refund.
To reiterate, the WHOLE WINDOW ON THE LEFT in this Croydon store is basically on sale except new items, earrings, and bullion/bars. Everything else is practically on sale and visible to the customer.
On pad 12, where I originally saw the ring on 27.01.26 at full price, all of the items are now on sale. Some items have been sold, however, there’s a soverign mount which is still available. The price is higher now even though it’s on sale due to H&T increasing their prices on gold to approx. £65 per gram.
I wasn’t born yesterday, and I don’t believe I have ‘I look like a mug’ on my forehead.
I don’t expect a staff member to make up their own policies/rules/prices and not to obey by what the company has set out.
Is this ‘so called manager’, now bigger than H&T making up their own rules? He said to contact customer services, and to come back.
I’ve contacted H&T customer services via the phone immediately after I left the store, and they wanted me to ask him to speak with his area manager. What nonsense is this?!
I then had to be transferred around, and finally made a complaint over the phone. I also followed up via Resolver once I got home on 17/03, and still no response even though the lady on the phone said I would get one within 5 working days. H&T also chose not to respond to the email via Resolver, I had to chase them twice, and only then they came back with an acknowledgement letter.
If a colleague or staff don’t know whether an item should be on sale or in this case, how much discount to be applied, they’ve been given a brown/white sheet from H&T head office which clearly specifies how much discount should be applied to that particular item which other stores have used/followed to change the price of the item and provide good customer service.
Totally dreadful, terrible service from both the Croydon North End branch, and also customer services on this occasion.
I’m not surprised why hardly any customers purchase goods from them; they only choose to do pawnbroking!
Over two days, I had purchased goods totalling £1726.50 excluding this ring from Croydon!
As H&T do not seem to be interested as they haven’t dealt with such a simple matter, I will be requesting a refund of my funds within my layaway account, and will be purchasing jewellery from Ramsdens across the road instead and also online along with other jewellers.
I’m letting other current and future customers to be aware, to NOT put an item on layaway as H&T will want to con you out of money, and not honour the sale price it should be. Your better off purchasing jewellery from other retailers/independent shops who are trustworthy.
I will also not be stepping foot back into this Croydon store ever again! And I will attach images from my phone onto a Google Review!

My experience at the Bootle Strand store with Paula and another female staff member (sorry I didn't get her name) was second to none.
I was made to feel at ease, I explained why I was having to use the pawnbrokers. They were very empathetic. Paula especially.
Very professional service, but at the same time we had a laugh aswell.
I would highly reccommend to family and friends. Very happy customer 🙂
I deposited a cheque which should clear in 10 days I have chased this with the company and 11 days later still no update or money,the cheque issuer has confirmed the funds were taken from there account after 5 days so I can only presume they are holding on to MY money as long as possible for the interest which is not good business on there part. Just to also add the staff at the Leeds store have chased this several times but to no avail.
After speaking with customer service I have been made aware they will not pay you your money even if the cheque has cleared into their account and they keep your money for 10 days regardless even if they have your money. Beware of using this cheque cashing service as they do not make it clear that it is a min of 10 working days before they will give you your money even if the money has cleared in their account after 3 working days. There ie better options than this company that charge less fee and process the monies quicker, I will never use this company again. It states on the receipt expected clearance date it does not say the earliest payment date what I found completely misleading
One more thing to add I have spoken with the shop where I deposited the cheque every day this week who said they check every day to see if it has cleared, why would they do this if they know it is a minimum 10 days before clearence. I have been charged a huge fee and miss sold on the time line. The company should either pay me the money without delay or reimburse my fees as there is an obvious training error on there part. I can provide a record of all calls made.

I had a very positive experience at H&T Pawnbrokers in Kingsbury. The staff were friendly, professional, and took the time to explain everything clearly without any pressure. The process was quick and straightforward, and I felt I was offered a fair price for my items.
The shop itself was clean, well-organised, and felt secure, which gave me confidence throughout the transaction. Customer service really stood out—Rutu, the lady who served me, was especially lovely, patient, and helpful throughout the whole process.
Overall, I would definitely recommend H&T Pawnbrokers Kingsbury to anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy pawnbroker. I would happily use their services again.
The price of their gold jewellery seems to be very competitive which is good.
But I was told that if I signed up to their newsletter I'd get a 10% discount, which I did, but received no code.
I contacted them about it, and they replied asking if I'd created an account, as it was necessary as well as subscribing to the newsletter. I replied that I had, but then didn't receive a reply.
I asked about it again a while later with another question I had. They replied to the second question with a generic copy and pasted text, and ignored the part about the discount.
Seems like they're only interested in spamming you with marketing and don't want to give out the code in exchange.
A shame, but it put me off and I've taken my £1500 business elsewhere.

Absolutely disagree with them especially the manager at county rd Walton have been a customer for years and had 3 items in that have been backed and backed because I never had the money to take them out they knew this and I was in hospital I went in to ask them for 5 days and I was getting them out but was refused they are the only thing I had left from my parents which they knew customer service was no help I phoned them and asked could they ring me before the day was up so I could see if they would let me no phone call from them passing the book from the shop to the service centre I’m heartbroken I’ve paid for them 100 times over it’s a horrible company I will make sure I tell everyone I’m going to the ombudsman about them it’s like customers mean nothing please don’t use them they’re horrible

They have the same watch for sale on there website for £6095
The watch if you were to purchase new today is well over £8000
I don’t mind anyone making a profit it’s how they keep the doors open

I've used H&T three times to sell old silver jewellery that I no longer wear. The high level of Customer Service I got each time is why I go back. The Team are able to be empathetic, whilst remaining professional at the same time. And you do get a genuinely good price for items you sell.
