Highly reliable service
Highly reliable, queries answered quickly, ability to ask for manual quotations for sites that are not listed as default. Packaged well, good communication (as long as email notices are turned on). Do find in chrome there's "bad request" errors in loading the page, so often I need to use other browsers or another device. Reasonable charges for service fee but caution it adds up if you're not careful! Items that do not arrive are refunded quickly. I've had no issues with the site so far and have had a good experience!
Do wish debit cards were accepted though, my MasterCard doesn't work on the site.
Recommended for anime fans and general Japanese products!
Customer service is good, but can explore better ways to charge service fees and other opportunities to provide better service
I've used FromJapan for many years, and one of the many other proxy and forwarding services I use for various purposes.
What's been good
1) I've never had a bad customer experience and if you truly understand how the Japanese trade/buy/sell on the secondhand market aka Mercari, SNS, etc., the customer service team puts up with a lot having to be the middlemen negotiating for foreign customers and Japanese sellers.
2) Packing and shipping is generally good. They are not the worst when it comes to overpacking. I've had other services where they literally taped unopened boxes the original items were shipped in without bothering to repack into a smaller box, thus incurring me more shipping costs. Haven't had an item lost yet. As with most companies that deal with logistics, packers don't get paid well, so be thankful when the package and contents arrive in a satisfactory condition. If delivery is delayed, blame it on the shipping couriers.
What they can vastly improve on
1) Service fees. I started using FJ back when they charged ¥300 per cart check out. Then it became ¥300 per item in cart. Then it rose to ¥500 per item. Inflation is inevitable, I'm not mad that costs have to increase, but what upsets me is that the ¥500 flat fee is regardless of whether your item costs ¥100 or ¥10,000. It is extremely unfair. To the customer who buys small items (i.e. old trading cards), ¥500 on top of ¥100 feels like a penalty. To the customer who buys a larger ¥10,000+ item, ¥500 is chump change. What I really love to see FJ enforce is a percentage charge for service fee, like F&B. You can get a much heftier cut from customers who buy high value items, and keep customers who buy small collectibles happier. It's a win-win for customers like me who feel penalised, and for the business whose goal is to collect more revenue (please pay your workers better!)
2) Be a proxy for foreigners who want to sell back extras (i.e. from blinds) to the Japanese market. We are effectively shut out of secondhand market sites like Mercari if we don't have a Japanese mobile number for verification, SNS trading if we cannot write strictly proper N2 keigo essays to negotiate trades with Japanese buyers, or in person at secondhand shops in Japan unless you have a friend who is a Japanese resident who can do it on your behalf. This is an idea, not yet a business plan, but it can help those of us who have excess from buying blind packs/boxes without a market to sell back in our home country. I hate to see resources go to waste and it would be wonderful to help us provide more goods back into the secondhand pool where there is demand for it.

There is a huge issue with the UI interface. When browsing surugaya, no image thumbnail are displayed. I also have to visit fromjapan in incognito mode. I seem to get the BAD REQUEST error. I do not know what happened to this site. As a long time buyer, I am greatly displeased of the site's performance.

Long time user
I have used Fromjapan for a number of years now and have had many good experiences and very few issues. The customer service is quick and is helpful when the issues do arise usually things that are not even Fromjapan's fault like domestic shipping status or a customs issue. The items are packaged well and they ship out pretty quickly. I've even had them reject a item that they found to not be authentic and get my money back which I very much appreciate.

The best proxy service to buy from Japan!
I've used different proxy services during these years to purchase goods from Japan, but FROM JAPAN is definitely the best one!
It is really easy to use, it lets you pay in japanese yen and does not require to deposit money in your account to complete a purchase.
Also, the packages are very well packaged and protect and the customer service is really great.
Fantastic experience! Smooth process and amazing customer support.
Shopping on this website is incredibly convenient and fast! The entire workflow is seamless, and the efficiency is impressive. I am especially grateful to the customer support representative (Luna), who was exceptionally attentive, responsible, and carefully took care of all my purchase and special packaging requests. I am incredibly happy and fully satisfied with their service. Highly recommended!
These guys are the best
These guys are the best , I have never had any issues with my parcels with these guys , packaging is great , many shipping options and great customer service.
Great customer service!
I have been using their services for the past few months, they have always been delivering and even with adhoc request they were ok with expediting request upon asked. Overall they have been one of the better services that I have used.
Excellent service
Excellent service. My purchase arrived quickly and was carefully packaged. The postage options really suited my needs. Absolutely recommended this site.
FromJapan is a great place!
FromJapan is a great place to find anime merch for really cheap prices! The only downside is how expensive shipping is nowadays... Even with all the campaigns shipping is so much that it negates the discounts. I firmly believe if they did occasional free shipping campaigns, they'd REALLY rake in the dough

Got the exact items i wanted for a fair shipping price and well packaged and quick to arrive absolutely amazing shipping and shopping experience the best ive ever had 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Their service is quick and effective
Their service is quick and effective; I especially appreciate the excellent treatment the customer always receives. I would definitely work with them again.
No accountability for mistakes
FromJapan is an acceptable proxy service until they mess up your order in any capacity. In that case, expect them to dodge all accountability and blame and/or blame you for simply "misunderstanding".
I've had a number of issues with them, which I will list below:
(1) The 500 yen service fee does not in fact provide you any sort of reimbursement for incorrect or missing products. I purchased a set of 14 unique trading cards and received a duplicate of one instead of the one I was missing. I contacted FromJapan about the issue, only for them to give me a condescending response. They implied that I didn't know how trading cards worked and that I wasn't guaranteed to get all 14 different trading cards, even though... It was listed in the product description and I had already received 13/14 cards and the remaining one was a duplicate. I indicated that this didn't make sense, as again, if it were really a random assortment of 14 packs, I would not receive 13/14. Furthermore, the image listed in the product description showed all 14 and other listings on websites indicated that you would receive all 14 unique cards. I pointed out the other listings and the product description, but the representative refused to yield and stated that, because the website I ordered from did not explicitly say that I would be receiving 14 unique cards, there was nothing that they could do.
I then had to purchase the missing card off of Mercari. It wasn't much, maybe 300 yen at the most? With the service fee, it was an additional 500 yen, totaling to about 800 yen. I inquired about compensation, and FromJapan only agreed to give me 150 FJ points (or at least I believe it was around 150 FJ points), totaling to... $1. They wouldn't even refund me for the service fee. That's how stingy they are.
(2) They also have flat out lost my items. I purchased about 30 items from an online nuikuji/plushie lottery, which was expected to arrive at the end of September 2025. I normally don't mind waiting, and so I waited three weeks (late October 2025) to inquire about the item. It turns out that the items were in fact logged by FromJapan, but for whatever reason, they lost my items in their warehouse. How do you lose a customer's items? What would've happened if I had not inquired about the issue in time and the items were disposed of? To make matters even worse, they made vague apologies but refused to accept accountability for their role in this. The items were eventually found after three days, but this should have never happened to begin with. In my 10+ years of using proxy services, this has not happened. Not with Buyee (which I had mostly used before FromJapan), not with Zenmarket, not with Tenso, and not with Doorzo (who I am currently doing the majority of my business with).
(3) They refuse to contact the seller post-purchase for any reason whatsoever, even if it is to thank the seller for any bonuses or goodies that they included. Or even further questions related to the item itself. Ridiculous.
(4) Poor customer service. I don't know if it has just been me, as I usually only contact them when things have gone wrong, but FromJapan seems to be allergic to any form of accountability. They will make vague apologies but refuse to accept any responsibility for their part in things. Several months ago, I sent a complaint and let them know of their atrocious customer service, and they sent an arrogant response along the lines of "we have noted your feedback. We see that you've placed orders since, and we appreciate your patronage."
For those who aren't familiar with Japanese culture, let me give you the translation: "we're don't care, because we know that you'll still use our service anyways :)"
What? Why bring up that I've placed orders since the incident? Like, yes, unfortunately I have already placed orders for items that are supposed to arrive 6+ months in advance and have to spend money on shipping anyways, so why not just consolidate my items? I was regularly spending ~$800-$1,00 a month while almost exclusively using FromJapan, but I have since transitioned to using Doorzo.
Overall, FromJapan isn't the absolute worst proxy service out there, but the only real benefit is their (often excessive) packaging and variety of shipment options. Thankfully, they haven't outright lost any of my items, but I can't help but think that they'd just deny any responsibility and refuse to refund you if they did.
After my last batch of items, I'm closing my account and replacing any cards I've used with them. Even though you have the option to delete the cards, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's not actually removed from the site, as any additional cards you add are listed as Credit Card 7, Credit Card 15, etc. Like with all proxy services, be very vigilant and check your bank statements religiously.

A Japanese service, personalized and reliable!
I've been to Japan 12 times since 1992. I've sometimes bought a few items from a friend or from a company that mainly sells CDs. Many websites don't ship internationally. It can be complicated and time-consuming, and there are customs fees (I live in Switzerland). I was familiar with these new companies that offer to import for you. But the names in Europe are often very expensive and not very reliable. I had found one in Japan (B....) that worked once, but not with the website I was looking for to update my wardrobe! So I signed up with some real apprehension. I currently have three orders shipped and one large order in progress. I received one this morning, which allows me to write this review: from the beginning, I've always received quick, personalized, and precise answers to my questions. Everything is simple on the website, whether it's when ordering items or when choosing the shipping method. I received a very well-packaged parcel today, in true Japanese style, where customer service is valued! One of the three items was even quite fragile, yet it arrived in perfect condition. (Later it will be clothes, so it's less of an issue). From Japan offers reliable, personalized, and very Japanese customer service: congratulations! It's truly a pleasure. You do need to be a little patient, as they have to order from the website you choose. That website then sends the merchandise to From Japan (the one I chose is rather slow, with shipping taking between 5 and 7 days). Once you select the shipping method, From Japan still has to prepare the package (1-2 days). And then, of course, there's the delivery to your country. (Since it's a parcel, and with customs clearance, I estimated another 5 to 7 days). So, between placing my order and receiving the merchandise, I expect it to take about 3 weeks, even with express shipping (EMS), to be patient. The prices are also quite reasonable compared to competitors. I sincerely hope things go well going forward and for future orders. Working with companies like this is truly a pleasure and it restores confidence. Well done, From Japan.
My go-to for a reason
Overall, I use FromJapan alot. I've bought everything from expensive guitars and Leica cameras to second hand luxury items like watches and bags.
On the whole items are well packed and costs are transparent. That said, there are things to note -- even if it's not directly FromJapan's fault.
1. FromJapan refuses to speak to seller on things you bought and have trouble with. As an example, one of the cameras I bought came without a battery and I requested for FromJapan to reach out so I can buy the battery and have it shipped on my cost and they basically refused even when I am able to find the user from Google.
2. They do not have specialists (again not their fault) so you're really buying at the word of the seller, which 95% of the time is fine. The 5% is where things can become troublesome (example: a lens arrived with fungus when it was stated that it was spotless). Because of the costs and trouble involved with such expensive items, I strongly suggest working with them to ask for a small compensation so you can send it to a local store to get the item sorted. This is definitely much easier to get approval from FromJapan -- and this is why it gets 5 stars even when it isn't perfect (I don't think there is a perfect service).
3. The big reason where I continue to use FromJapan even when I experience a problem. FromJapan tends to package very conservatively so things tend to come in the state that they arrive 99% of the time. The 1% of the time happened with a recent consolidated order where they strangely didn't secure one of my items to the base of the box like they usually do. This item (a lens) arrive cracked. As you would expect, logistics carriers (FedEx in this instance) basically denied fault [there were more problems with this delivery that is on FedEx]. The process was long - more than 5 months - but FromJapan made me whole on this and I'll be a lifetime user.
Other plus things to think about:
1. They have regular coupons which makes things slightly better to offset the tax that you'll need to pay when buying items through the service.
2. I've always loved communicating with the support team. They are never rude even when I'm initially upset which makes it hard to stay upset with them for long. While they aren't always able to address my concerns I honestly believe they do try and the support staff are probably more held back due to processes that protect the business. Shoutout Luma and Kuro!

Great Experience!
2000th review here, I had a great experience using FromJAPAN. very good proxy website to buy stuff from Japan. I been using them for 4-5 years, service and packaging are amazing! 10/10
The best proxy site after 4 years of use!
I have been using From Japan (FJ - One Map) for 4 years now to source nostalgic vintage electronics. After trying many other proxy sites, I have consistently stuck with FJ because they fulfill all of my expectations. The website features an easy-to-understand bidding system, a straightforward service menu, incredibly quick and helpful customer support teams, and fast shipping. Highly recommended!
