Faircar should be called Unfaircar

Faircar should be called Unfaircar
They don't have the cars at the airport that you order, but we were picked up an hour after the time we ordered the car from. Then a 20-minute drive and a further hour in the queue. All in all, we got the car 2.5 hours late and didn't make it to the Christmas event we were supposed to be at. The delivery could not be at the ordered time but 6 hours earlier as they are not open in the evening. However, they have no problem renting you the car with that as the delivery time... and remember to factor in queuing time and driving back to the airport. All in all, we got the car in of one day og time less than what we ordered... I would strongly advise against renting a car from them.

2.5h later....AVOID

From star to finish to get on the road was nearly 3h, the car had damage on every panel and getting them to record is a really slow process. Avoid at any cost

Mark and Hiedy were great!

We had some issues with the car but Hiedy helped us a lot, even refunded us 1 day, and then Mark who checked us in and out was so helpful and kind as well!
First time renting a car and it was super easy and fast!

Marek was AWESOME!

The gentleman that checked us in, Marek, was wonderful. He explained everything to us, he was very professional, gave us some good tips on what apps to download or what sites to visit to enhance our Iceland experience.
The car was good, we did not have any issues with it. The return of the car was quick and easy too.
We had a great experience, and Marek definitely made it even better. You are lucky to have such a great people working there.

BAD SERVICE

Initial experience of the company was nice. As the day came in to return the car, it was worst customer service experience by the Management team. They couldn't help in any way or denied. Also charged many more ISK for ONLY 20 % LESS FUEL IN TANK THAN FULL. We could have end up missing the flight because of the mess up. Call center or agent takes long time to pick up the call or to solve query. Rip off company and appauling service.

When picking up the car Marek the guy…

When picking up the car Marek the guy on the desk was very welcoming, gave us plenty of top tips about driving around Iceland… “hang on to your door at all times, it’s very windy!” 3 apps to make life easier PARKA, Aurora, Road.is, got us to take photos of the car before we left. Car is a great little run around.

Read this honest review

If you read only one review of Faircars Iceland, I hope you read this one:

We booked our car rental with Faircars before we read the reviews and honesty, we were PETRIFIED of what we would expect. We even tried to cancel our reservation, but it was too late. After reading 100’s of bad reviews, we decided to prepare ourselves for the worst experience ever. However, we were pleasantly surprised that upon checking in, Carnect (the very helpful representative who helped us) admitted that the company is aware of the bad reviews and are trying to turn things around. What you have to remember is that Faircars is one of the cheapest car rental companies (they charge almost half of other companies like Hertz and Avis) and to keep their costs down, their cars might be a little older and not brand new. However, the car we drove and others we saw looked good to us and not the “rusted tin cans” we were expecting.
Pro Tip 1: The most important tip I cannot stress enough is to get the Platinum Insurance protection. It actually costs more than the car rental itself but is 100% worth it. A lot of the negative reviews are of people who did not get the insurance and then were shocked they had to pay enormous fees for damages. Anyone who lives in Iceland knows that the weather and conditions are BRUTAL and even if you are the most careful driver, the unexpected WILL happen. As careful as we were, we couldn’t control that a passing truck flew a rock at our windshield and put a crack in it. However, we weren’t worried since we had the Platinum protection which covers all those unexpected incidents with no additional deductibles or expense. The only thing it doesn’t cover are doors being blown off by the wind (yes, this IS a thing as several other reviewers have mentioned). Make sure you park your car into the wind and hang onto your doors.
Pro Tip 2: Get the hotspot Wi-Fi. Don’t bother with the navigation option as it’s very difficult to use. Having Wi-Fi allowed us to use Google maps to navigate which was much easier. We loved having Wi-Fi everywhere we went. Make sure to take the hotspot with you and charge it at night in your hotel.
Pro Tip 3: Allow plenty of time to check in. Fortunately, we only had to wait 10-20 minutes when we picked up and dropped off the car. I can imagine during peak season it is much busier so plan accordingly.
Pro Tip 4: Make sure you pay for parking at designated lots and the one tunnel up North along the ring road. If you don’t, don’t be surprised when the bill comes to the rental car company and they add a surcharge. Just be aware and read signs.
Pro Tip 5: Be nice to the Faircars representatives. Being courteous and friendly goes a long way. It was a pleasure dealing with all the people at Faircars because we were nice to them. As a result, not only did we receive excellent customer service, but we also got upgraded to a nicer car and received additional perks like the hotspot at no extra charge. Kindness and courtesy is always rewarded.
Believe me, I was VERY nervous about renting from Faircars, but after my experience, I have to say I was very happy with the whole experience. I think most of it was due to being INFORMED and PREPARED. I knew even before picking up the car, we were going to buy the highest insurance protection because we didn’t want any unexpected expenses and didn’t want the stress of worrying about “what if”. Even if you are on a budget, don’t skip this. It might cost you a lot more later.

Overall, we were very happy with our experience and would definitely recommend renting from Faircars Iceland.

The worst company ever

The worst company ever!
We had to pay addition insurance beacuase the limit of our credit cart is 2500€ ( not enough for them) !
Then we had a flat tyre and the material in the car is a really bad quality so impossible to change the tyre! We had to call the road assistance.
The company said that we will received refund but since we came back home, they did not answer any of our e-mail and phone c

AVOID this Car Rental!!!

Please read people’s review before you booked a car with them!! We get a TRAP by cheapest price for a car rental and end up pay a lot of Money!!!
1. They force us to buy Gold premium insurance by informing us the insurance we bought in advance cannot cover everything. And it cost EUR25 per day (we rent for 6days total EUR150). If we keep refuse it they won’t give the car key to us! We don’t have any choice because it’s too late to find a new car rental (around 11pm and we still need to drive to our accommodation)
2. The car we got is old and not in a good condition. There is warning light “service required” with 100.000++ miles. When we ask them to change the car, they just simply check and inform us to ignore the sign if it’s pop-up again!!!
3. We rent a GPS to make our driving experience easier and smooth. The GPS is outdated!! Many places that we want to visit can’t be found!
4. They ask us to pay EUR5,000 as a deposit when we check out because they claim that we broke the gearbox and the insurance won’t cover it!! We never drive the car to off road. Iceland’s road is famous with gravel road and pathole. It won’t make the gearbox easily broke!! Again, we pay those amount on the spot because we need to catch up our next flight.
5. We thought everything was settled after we return. We paid all the money that they charges us (we browse such amount equal to used car price). They sent an email that the money can’t cover the repair and charge us more EUR4,500!! Where is the insurance that we have been force earlier???

They never share the Insurance contract in the first place and Never inform the insurance company.

Now, they are threatening us by using International lawyer if we are not paying the bill!!!!

Being forced into a couple of €500+ insurance late at night after a long flight, when they told me it would just be a couple of Euro's. Do NOT book here!!

Cheap for a reason. Beware

Cheap and nasty. Beware.

Expect what you pay for. What we got for choosing the cheapest supplier was a 15+ year-old car. It worked, but had plenty of dents, large rust pocks over most panels, front panels peeling away etc.

We wasted an hour or so on return where they tried to convince us that they could spot new sand-storm damage on the 15-year old rusty, scratched paint. "I can't show you specifically... it's just a general haziness to the paint".

Pickup from airport and return transfers were fine though. No hassle.

I'd highly recommend paying the extra and going with a big-name brand.

This car rental sucks

They are a scam. We had to wait one hour for the representative to come and then wasted 2 hours. They refused to reply when contacted about the late arrival. No apologies, just harshness. The arrangement was meet and greet but instead dragged us off to the office and refused any contact. Car was broken and we received a manual car instead of an automatic car as promised. Total scam, do not go near them.

BEAWARE--Please DO NOT BOOK via this…

BEAWARE--Please DO NOT BOOK via this company.
They are rip off. We had paid £1200 for 7 days for 4x4 TOYOTA RAV. We were given an old Mitsubishi which wasn't driving properly windows wont shut, and car made noise on driving. HIGHLY unsafe....
We complained and they changed the car next day gave us new Mistubishi.
On return of the car they pointed some less then1mm scuff mark on window and front bonate. Which may have occured from a gravel hitting the car. That mark was barely visible. They charged us Euro 5000 from us to fix it. SHOCKING.... It is a big fraud a big scam from fair car- Iceland car rental. PLEASE DO NOT RENT ANY CARS FROM THIS COMPANY. The guy LUCAS who served us was also extremely rude, aggressive and mannerless with poor communication skills and unreasonable.

I wish I could give fair car a zero…

I wish I could give fair car a zero star rating. Our tire blew out and the car was in terrible condition to begin with. They didn’t cover the cost of roadside assistance and kept the brand new tire we bought. It was an awful experience. They do not care at all about people, the fact that we almost got in an accident did not matter to them at all.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!

Do not rent from this company!
Rented a car for 14 days. The car was
barely holding it together, old, rusty, worn tires that needed to be replaced, check engine service lights on, rusted and multiple scratches and bumps on body damage.

When I returned this piece of junk, the manager told me that the car was damaged by sand and ashes. I could not believe it. They threatened me to call the police and made me pay $13000 of damage repairs (basically to get a new car from me!). DO NOT RENT FROM THEM, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU AT DROP OFF ANYWAYS!

Staff very nice

Staff very nice. Cars are older and definitely had wear and tear (rust) on them. We had some mechanical problems, but the manager was very responsive and brought us a different car within a few hours of contacting her. Her customer service was excellent.
