Exeter Eye Reviews 

Both my husband and now I have been treated by Peter Simcock and his team for cataract and associated surgery. It has changed our lives, from poor and often worrying sight to clear and perfect vision. From initial individual consultation, explanation of procedures and expected results, to actual surgery and follow up reviews, we cannot recommend Peter and his team at Exeter Eye highly enough. Truly amazing and life changing surgery by a most amazing team. If you are worried or concerned about having the surgery, don't be, just book an appointment to discuss it.

I have recently had cataract surgery on both eyes. The operations were carried out by Mr Neil Bowley. The whole experience with Exeter Eye , from my first consultation to the final check up was exceptional and I cannot praise them highly enough.

My late husband had serious eye problems and Mr Simcock looked after him very well, so, when I felt I needed cataract operations, my first thought was to visit Mr Simcock too, and thank goodness I did! Apparently, I have a condition which makes cataract operations more challenging and I was very anxious. Mr Simcock spent time explaining the risks, weighing pros and cons, and offering advice. Both operations were successful despite the problem, and my vision is great again. Very kind support staff too and a positive experience. Thank you very much.

I had both cataracts replaced by Peter Simcock. The whole experience was explained very well and the staff were all very kind and helpful. The result was extremely successful and I am now able to read without any assistance. All highly recommended.

I had cataract surgery with Peter Simcock on both eyes at Exeter Eye with Toric lenses fitted. The pre-op tests were very thorough; everything was explained and sedation was offered for nervous patients. Although one eye was a more complex operation that normal, the operations were painless and the theatre staff could not have been more kind. I especially appreciated the gluten-free biscuits after each operation! Mr Simcock went over and above what I expected in aftercare appointments and reassuring phone calls.

I have had cataract surgery on both eyes (on separate dates). Both operations were conducted by an experienced and professional surgeon assisted by the same anaesthetist with nurses helping me before and after surgery with care and attention

Miss von Lany was helpful, understanding and professional. She made me feel very relaxed and I am extremely pleased with the results of my cataract operations.

Following lens replacements by another provider, I developed bloodshot eyes which I was told couldn't be corrected - that was until I consulted Miss Irvine at Exeter Eye.
She identified the cause of the problem and the recommended treatment (Ectropion Repairs)
She repaired both eyelids successfully and I cannot recommend her surgical skills more highly.

I had Refractive Lens exchange in both eyes in January 2025. From the moment that we saw Mr Quinn, the Ophthalmic Consultant, the service was professional and informative in every way. Nothing was too much trouble, and I had complete confidence from the initial meeting with the consultant`s expertise. The surgery procedure was painless and the nursing team were excellent. I would wholeheartedly recommend Exeter Eye to anyone considering an ophthalmology procedure.

Since September 2022 I have had much experience with Exeter Eye. Starting with a successful cataract procedure on my near sight eye conducted by Daniel Byles in September 2022, I was referred to Peter Simcock when regular OCT scans showed that a pre-existing macular hole in that eye had noticeably deteriorated to ‘full depth’ by August 2024. The macular hole was successfully treated very promptly in September 2024 by Peter Simcock and was then followed by a standard cataract procedure on my distant vision eye in early January 2025, again successfully performed by Peter Simcock.

In all my dealings with Exeter Eye, and both Daniel Byles and Peter Simcock (not forgetting their supporting teams), I have been very impressed and would thoroughly recommend both the surgeons and the facility to others.

Having been treated by Exeter Eye Surgeons previously I had no hesitation in returning for further treatment when it became necessary. This time I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Conor Ramsden who carried out my surgery and was absolutely delighted with the result. I would not hesitate to recommend Exeter Eye or Mr Ramsden in particular to anyone needing eye treatment(s).

I have been very impressed with Mr. Conor Ramsden. I was having problems with my left eye and was diagnosed with a macular hole, had an appointment with Mr. Ramsden who was very reassuring and operated 3weeks later. I believe that it was his speed in operating and expertise that saved the sight in my left eye and am very grateful. Have since gone on to have 2 cataract operations with Mr. Ramsden (February 2024 and November 2024) and am very happy with the result. I would also like to thank the staff at Exeter Eye (and Exeter hospital) who were all very kind and supportive.

If I could give more than 5 stars to Mr Quinn and his team I would. Mr Quinn explains what can be done for you and the procedure very clearly.I felt confident in him and his whole team, from his secretary Jo and the team on the day. Special mention to theatre nurse Jo who was so kind. The surgery was painless as is the recovery.I now do not need glasses for anything and have no astigmatism. Having worn glasses for over 35 years, I am just about getting used not needing them. Mr Quinn’s expertise and judgement is second to none along with his great ‘bedside’ manner. I know he is as pleased for me as I am with this fantastic result, more than I expected. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Quinn and his team at Exeter Eye and simple cannot thank them enough.

All the staff were friendly, helpful and caring. I felt very safe in their hands. The whole experience was slick and professional. Mr Quinn with his soft, calm Kiwi accent gave clear, concise explanations and options to make informed choices about my treatment easy. His skills as a surgeon have made a huge difference to my eyesight. I would definitely recommend Mr Quinn and his team to anyone who needs Cataract surgery.

I can not recommend Exeter Eye highly enough. My cataract surgery was carried out with care and precision, and I was made to feel confident and relaxed throughout. I would not hesitate to return if I were to experience any further issues with my eyes.

I was terrified about having cataracts corrected in both eyes, and I would say to anyone who needs corrective surgery for cataracts, please do not worry. Mr Quinn and his team did an excellent job of reassuring me, about the procedure. There is absolutely no pain, the whole procedure was approximately 30 mins, if that. I have had both cataracts done, both eyes doing well, and the difference to my eye sight is incredible. As an artist, to see the colours of nature and life as they truly are again, which over the years had faded considerably, it’s breathtaking. I can’t thank Mr Quinn and his team for their wonderful skills to make this happen. Don’t be scared, it’s life changing.

My wife and I have had two cataract operations this year by Miss von Lanny and we are completely satisfied.
My wife does not have a thyroid gland and after the first op there was a slight infection which was resolved quickly.
Miss von Lany is a professional and caring surgeon who would have our full recommendation.
Also her secretary Sally Lawson who professionally managed our appointments to minimise the travelling from North Devon

I have had cataract and lens replacement surgery on both eyes which then had to be followed up with YAG laser surgery.
I can only say my whole experience at Exeter Eye was faultless from my first nervous phone call to the secretary wandering if I was a suitable candidate for any of this !
Mr Simcock was extremely informative pros and cons giving me enough information to make a decision to go ahead , the whole procedure on both eyes and the follow up laser went very well, but what stood out for me was the team that looked after me from anesthetist, nurses and of course Mr Simcock.
A great team and I would highly recommend Exeter Eye to anyone.
