1 star is way to much to give this terrible company. Quoted $70 a day for a compact car, arrived to pick the car up and the desk attendant was forcing us to purchase insurance for $145/day. It's a shame to see a company do business like this. Do not rent a car from these crooks.

I had a reservation through expedia, in which they offered to rent a car for 4 days for $ 200 usd ALL INCLUSIVE, insurance, etc ...
When I arrive at the agency at 1 am, they tell me that I have to pay $145 usd more for the insurance that is mandatory, leave a deposit of $26000 mxn and pay taxes or cancel the reservation that I had in dispatch and pay only $340 dollars for all inclusive. When I said that it did not seem fair, the person who was there told me that I could return the next day by car, which I thought was stupid, since it was 1 am, in a dangerous neighborhood in the city, with 2 children.
What you do is a fraud, because in the end, you are obliged to rent the car, regardless of the quota they give you at the agency, because your hands are tied.
However, they give me a car, messed up, all scratched, and beaten.
To end the situation, when I was driving on the highway, the brakes did not work and I had no way of communicating with anyone, since my cell phone did not have a signal in the place where we stayed. We were my husband, my 2 children of 9 and 16 years, and a nephew of 9 months.
It is IRRESPONSIBLE AND NEGLIGENT that they have a rental car with brakes that do not work !! Going to the speed limit of the highway, we kill ourselves!
Honestly, I want my money back, I will file a complaint with the consumer agency and one here in the USA with the BBB to force them to go through some kind of inspection before delivering a car.

Scam artists. I booked a car through carrentals.com (an Expedia company) for San Jose Del Cabo for 4 days. The total was approx. $224USD. Upon arrival, they refused to rent the car without paying an additional $218 in insurance. This was in addition to the liability insurance that was included. They also charged my credit card an additional $1,600+ as a "security deposit." Let's see if I ever get that back! Avoid this company. They are truly criminals.

Absolutely terrible service at Oaxaca Airport. I paid for a car (and insurance) in a booking through Expedia. When I went to collect the car, I was told they didn't recognize the insurance I paid for when booking, and that I would either have to pay a fine (for not having insurance!) and a $14000USD deposit or pay insurance which was more expensive than the car rental itself. Don't waste your time with these guys, book a rental with someone else.

DO NOT rent a car for on this place ,horrible experience, I rent a car for 15 days and they stole it from me, they took the car and my luggage set of 5 fully pack suitcases, after the car was stolen I went to the agency to write the report and to my surprise the car was park on their parking lot and the luggage was still there, I call the manager to report the issue and he was going to write the report knowing that the car was right in front of his nose, after I confront him and toll him that he was the thief and pointed at the car and my luggage he did not know what to say.
I left the car there and took my luggage and later I found out that they charge me 200 USD for recovery charges , now the thieves charge for the service to decent people, how ironic!!!!!

I would give no stars if it was possible! Do not book here. You book for one price and then they charge your card multiple times for things you did not agree to. When you tell them this was not what you agreed to they say do not worry it is okay and continue to charge you. It is a scam!!! Emails and complaints are not answered, phone calls hung up on. They use your signature from the reservation to state you agreed to all these other charges. Why would I pay for 2 weeks of a car I had already returned?!? That does not even began to explain the other issues we had with them.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!!! The worst rental car company in mexico, I paid for a car that they didnt give me i got a down grade in size because they gave it to someone else, they then lied and said the transaction was declined for the deposit but when we checked the bank it was there, we called for days to see how we can extend the car they finally pick up the phone days later, we were told we must come in but discovered after you can extend it online, i spoke with managment about exteneding the car she was very rude and yelled at me in front of my family, she said i can turn it in that night i told her that was fine and tried to explain what we were wanting to do as far as extending the car she yelled again and locked the car which left me and my 2 babies and wife in the middle of a parking lot with no transportation, they are now trying to charge a extra $554 , i will take this to corprate this comapny really needs to go out of buisness.
1 star is much. Avoid at all costs. They are cheaters and will charge you more than double the price you booked it for. They'll tell you they are obligatory costos. Avoid avoid avoid.

AVOID EUROPA CAR Merida downtown/Fiesta Americana at all costs. It is a scam! They will give you a cheaper car than the one you reserved .The car would be defective, it will leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. They will charge your card a week after you return it for the cost of fixing the car. They will not answer your calls. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Be careful with these sharks at the Cabos airport location. After paying through expedia, I got charged $350 as deposit for bringing it back to same location. Brought it back in good condition, was told I was going to get my deposit back, never got it back, even after disputing with both our banks. DO NOT BOOK HERE.
Rented a car for Oaxaca trip in July 2020, fully paid (23,000 pesos) in advance. Pandemic hit and we had to cancel the trip. Europcar said no refunds but I could use that credit anywhere in Mexico within 1 year. Fast forward to May 2021. I have been trying to get a hold of them for a month to get a rental next month in Cabos. No phone number works, Whatsapp is a bust, no response to emails, got someone on the line through their chat feature on the website yesterday. Thought we were getting somewhere then he just disconnected with no reason or mention that he was leaving. I just sat, waiting for a response for an hour. Will have to go back to my credit card to fight the charge. Very disappointed. We rent with them at least once a year. Not any more!
Lying, cheating thieves. I booked a car with them, in writing at their own office for a month later and when I returned to get the car, they claimed I had no reservation and I was forced to take an on-the-spot booking at double the price with fake car insurance that was not needed because I proved I have coverage with my credit card -- the same card that they accepted to waive the insurance the previous time. When I complained, they told me to get with the main office. The main office never replies. They're simply awful people. Don't ever use them under any circumstances.
Definitely the worst car rental experience ever! $466 hold on my credit card for a $42 rental?? My rental was for one day and was charged 2 full days after returning an hour and 15 minutes late. The agent told me the first hour late is a grace period then they charge 1/3 the full day cost every hour after that until after 3 hours, clearly that was a lie. I emailed for a one day refund but not too confident I'll get it...

We booked multiple cars with Europcar. Despite prepaying, they did not have a car for us. When we went to pick up the car, they told us we could have a car for much more money than the reserved price.
They’re just scam artists, plain and simple.
The rules in Mexico clearly state you need TPL - agreed. The rental price and T&C’s clearly states that TPL is included in our rental, it took Atleast 45 minutes to get the very rude staff to admit that this was the case once they realised we would not be budging on purchasing the additional insurance they were trying to scam us for.
Next issue - the T&C states a deposit of $5000usd and they told us it would be $8000. Another 10 minute discussion to get them to honor their own T&Cs.
Next issue - the CDW. We have Chase Sapphire collision damage waiver (CDW) included on our card so also did not require the additional insurances offered for this. You need to provide a letter from the bank confirming they cover in Mexico which we gave them. They then decided the letter has to include the name of the Mexico underwriter on it (despite this not being written anywhere and clearly a made up thing once they realised we’d have everything we needed). Called Chase, they confirmed the underwriter was one on the approved list, the (by this point) extremely rude manager refused to speak to the Chase representative who said in 25 years they have never had to provide written confirmation of their underwriter to any car rental company.
Next issue - we tried Amex as they also cover us through a card in Mexico to see if we could get a letter stating this from them. Same issue. Amex have also never had to provide this and won’t.
The rude manager almost gleefully stated ‘we realise this is an issue no one can get this confirmation’ - which is why they ask for it so they can scam you for $350 of insurance on a $50 rental.
We ended up recording a final conversation with the manager and walking out. It’s unbelievable these clowns are still operating.
We agreed to and signed up for a car rental in Monterrey, Mexico for around $20 USD total $340 pesos. All sounded great, they were super quick in signing us up, the car was decently clean and served us well. We were in a bit of a rush to get to the airport on the way out and we’re very pleased with the quick and easy check-in process when we returned the car. Fast forward to a few days later when we finally got home and went through all of the bank statements to find a $160 charge from Europcar. Plus the deposit still pending. After a thorough search of my email for the receipt and scouring the rental contract I was disappointed to learn that they did not actually provide us with any rental receipt with a cost break down. At this point I’m still thinking that it might be my fault for not understanding them perfectly in my second language, but after 3 weeks of emailing and calling them with no response (only in hopes of obtaining a receipt) I am nearly certain that they charged us for something absurd and avoiding us is the only way to get us to go away. I’ll be disputing the charge, though with no record of my own, I’m sure I signed something in the fine print that gives them rights to charge me for things I didn’t agree to. My fault, never trust a Mexican company, always scour the receipt on-site, be prepared to argue with everyone. What a scam. Also, 3 weeks later I still have a pending deposit. Can’t wait to see what they come up with to keep that too.
This company are thieves. They impose an early return of $80 US after I’m back in Canada. The agent upon returning the car stated I would receive a $200 refund, but kept $80 after the fact. Furthermore, they lied to their office in France and said I was informed there would be a penalty. A bold faced lie. DO NOT USE EUROPCAR. Save yourself the hassle and loss of money, trust and that sick feeling.
Bandidos,
They steal $900,- and let us miss the flight.
After a few days we got problems with te liquide cooling system. The coolant connection was loosed. We try to get contact with europcar but they did not answere. The next day we get in contact, we got an other car. 10 days later we bring back the car at cancun airport. Their we were forced to pay $ 1100,- because the motor from the first car was broken. We got the best assurance but this was not included they said. We refused to pay, so we were not allowed to go. Finally, we escaped, and run to the incheck counter. Unfortunately we arrived to late, it was already closed. We had to buy a new ticked for $1200,- when we arrived home we saw that $900 was writed off from our creditaccount. We tried to get it back by our bank. But europcar send a document with my signature that I accepted to pay $ 900,- fot repairing the car. The creditbank closed the case.
For me it was the first time that I see this document. The must have copied my signature.
EUROPCAR ARE BANDIDOS. rent never a car, because the know how to get money from you, to steal it from your creditcard.
Deserves 0.
On my reservation it said $50 including all taxes. When I got there they said I have to pay $1000 extra for insurance, I told them I have insurance through my credit card Amex. They said some BS about Amex not being a registered credit card company. I had another credit card they didn’t accept that either. These are the kind of things as customers we deserve to know before before making the reservation.
I’m so glad I didn’t already pay my $50, like so many others did. Never again choose this piece of trash company.
