Incredibly simple, professional and smooth service. They thought of everything.

Pleasantly surprised at Cancun International Airport with how incredibly professional and smooth our entire experience with Europcar was.

They have a reception desk right by baggage claim in Arrivals, where we were checked in and escorted by a member of their reception team to their shuttle bus service outside the airport. The bus was waiting for us and left immediately after we arrived. It was a 2 minute drive to their main office right next to the terminal.

The staff were really friendly, knowledgeable and professional and within 5-10 minutes we had everything we needed to be on our way. Their basic insurance (already included in the price) covers all the main things and we didn't feel the need to purchase anything additionally.

We received our contract electronically via email, and what I loved the most is their detailed report of the condition of the car with clear photos taken at every angle of the vehicle as we were driving out through their gates - all emailed to us for our reference. We haven't seen any other company do this before (usually we need to take the time out to take all photos ourselves) and it's something so simple that I felt really goes a long way for everyone's convenience.

The car was clean, in good condition and took us everywhere we needed without any issues during our trip.

Their booking confirmation receipt contained a QR code with directions to their drop off location as it was different to the pick up; we used the code and were easily able to get there to leave the car.

At drop off, we left the car outside and were greeted by a member of staff who, while we went to their office, took pictures and made sure everything was fine with the car. We were done with everything within 5 minutes, with a bus shuttle service waiting for us again outside to take us back to the terminal.

Everything was perfect and we highly recommend them to anyone.

The staff at Cancun Airport cheated us…

The staff at Cancun Airport cheated us for 1500 USD extra, because I’ve booked with my creditcard and put my partner A. As the driver. A had forgotten his creditcard, but the name of the driver could not be changed so I paid extra 1500 USD for a full cover insurance (with my creditcard) though I was added as a co-driver for free. This was a trick to cheat for 1500 USD, since I was driver of the car nevertheless !

TOTAL RIP OFF

TOTAL RIP OFF! THIEVES, SCAM - book if you want to pay 2-3x more than expected!

I wish a read reviews before renting a car here as it seems that they scam everyone - READ IF YOU DON`T want to be SCAMMED as well.

I rented a car with EUROPCAR through RentalCars.com in Mexico Cancun from 8.2.2025

When I paid for this rental, I also paid extra insurance (FULL PROTECTION with Rentalcars.com) which should cover everything.

Me and my family (4+7yo kids) arrived to Cancun around 11pm (after about 20hours travel) and we were transported to Europcar.

Everything went well until the guy giving us our car wanted to charge us some nonsense astronomical charges for extra insurance - TWICE the price of the car rental price!

After about 10 minutes persuading him that I already bought insurance and showing him confirmations, he told me that this is not their insurance and that if I insist not taking their own, I will probably have problem to get some money if something happened but ok.

Then he continued - I had to put down refundable deposit (yes of course, I counted with that) - he told me that it will be only 700 USD.
I told him that we are ready to put refundable deposit of 2500 USD (or so as written in Rental Cars description) and he charged us only 700 USD claiming that that`s it.

Then he again told us without any other explanation that he is charging another 538.24 USD as some different kind of insurance. I told him no way and even asked if we can avoid this if I deposited more than 700 USD - he said no that is not possible and this extra insurance is mandatory and he wouldn`t let us leave without it - later I found out that I probably wouldn`t have to pay for this extra insurance if I deposited more - but that wasn`t of course even offered to us.

I argued with him about this rip off but he was literally FORCING me to pay for this. At the end he even told me that it will not be charged, but it will be also a refundable deposit - WHAT a LIE!!!

Exhausted, 2 kids at almost midnight in new country a agreed as he stated it is refundable I paid it.

I was of course charged about 5 days later when I checked my account.

I sent complaint email to Europcars and of course never got response.

When returning the car, I called for manager to tell him about their scam practices and after about 15 minutes when he claimed that he is checking my reservation - he came back smiling and stating that he can see my signature and of course he stands behind his colleagues and I can do nothing against it.

I told him that I will come to the car check in room and tell my story to all the clients renting the car. That clearly upset him and he even started to THREATEN me that if I went behind that door, I would have a huge problem (which could mean anything in Mexico), he would call police (I told him that I want to call them myself), I wouldn`t like it at all etc.

Threatening your clients - I couldn`t believe my eyes.
You really don`t feel safe here!

STAY OUT OF THIS COMPANY!

Europcar cancún airport

Europcar cancún airport, deposit scam. Handed back car everything fine, released my "full" Blocked deposit and when I checked my bank account it was less €193.25. Been chasing them for an explanation as to where my money went since February. Noone can explain it so as far as I am concerned it is theft. Such a scam, I wonder how many clients they have stolen from.
