Exceptional service and care

We were told about edda labs by my norwegian GP when I enquired about any potential complications given that my age was 35. We decided to get a basic NIPT test done for genetic abnormalities. I found the website extremely informative and it was a very simple process to book the test and order a test kit. The best part about the service was the support from Dr. Kristin Wright, who I spoke to on the phone before booking the test who was very patient and answered all out questions and was very helpful in explaining the entire process and how to choose suitable tests for our needs. He was very good at alleviating our anxiousness. The level of service was truly above and beyond. We got our test results back within 4 days of submitting the samples and it was reassuring to know that no genetic abnormalities were noted.
Its unusual that this is not a common service offered to anyone at potential risk and it would be great if the service would be made available in Norway and made more accessible.

Personal and great service

Personal and great service! Highly recommend eddalabs. The nipt school was useful to make an educated choice to take the test and the discussions with Kristian ensured I was prepared for any outcome.

Highly recommended

I had a great experience from beginning to end. The team is super professional, the follow up is personal with good information about the test, process and potential outcomes, and the response rate to any question is very short. I will definitely use Edda labs next time as well.

Professional, effective, reliable and easy

Everything was explained in detail by Eddalabs before the NIPT could be conducted, both by written information, the NIPS school (a short online course with information about NIPT) and by a telephone conversation with the responsible physician. I got the test on Monday, drew the blood test on Tuesday and DHL picked it up the same day. I received the result exactly 7 days later on a secure BankID link received on SMS. NIPT is the most accurate non-invasive test for detecting fetal chromosomal disease by analysing fetal DNA in the mothers blood, and this is the standard test in other countries like Sweden and Denmark. In Norway the less accurate KUB test is the standard test at the moment even though NIPT was accepted as the recommended test in 2020 (KUB is a test algorithm using ultrasound and two blood parameters, resulting in an estimated risk of chromosomal disease which in turn leads to more false negatives and positives). The NIPT result gives a better fundament of knowledge (and reassurance). Eddalabs is professional, effective and reliable, and the procedure is easy to do

My experience with Edda labs was very positive.

My experience with Edda labs was very positive – although many obstacles due to covid-19 and Norway regulations which meant very few people were willing to help me in a very vulnerable situation.

I am Swedish temporarily living in Norway due to work and is expecting my 2nd child. I expected values and prenatal services for women in my age to be pretty much the same regarding this matter. Living in Norway trying to get this test done, I encountered many sceptical faces and it felt like I was asking for a service completely abnormal or wrong. Being used to what almost all women in my age get offered at home, it felt like the prenatal health care and values here actually was roughly 10-15 years behind.
In my first pregnancy, our KUB showed very bad results and we were immediately sent over to do NIPT test at the antenatal care unit including extra heart screening of the baby (through the public health sector). After many screenings, everything was fine with our baby. Being in Norway, experience large resistant to get the test or some sort of screening due to my experience, I only met very sceptical faces due to current regulations (although it is actually legal since 2020).

In Sweden KUB-test is offered all pregnant women (no matter age) and after 35 this offer is also free of charge due to higher risks of chromosomal abnormality.

Through Edda labs, I got the possibility to do NIPT despite obstacles of covid and not being able to travel home. It is first now, 19 weeks into pregnancy, I can finally breathe knowing everything is fine.

Highly professional expertise with personal support and follow-up

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we were not able to travel to Sweden to take the NIPT test, as we did with our first child. We found Edda labs online, and honestly we couldn’t be happier for that coincidence; Edda labs and Dr. Kristian Wright has been very helpful and professional with tutoring us about the test, answering questions, weekdays as well as weekends, and we can highly recommend Edda labs to all future expecting parents!

Downs Syndrome

Because of the fact that we are both close to 40 years old, and the chances where increased for complications in a pregnancy, we decided that we wanted to take a NIPT test even before we got pregnant.
Even though it was now decided that I as a 36 year old woman was supposed to get the opportunity to do this test in my home country (Norway), it was still not put into action.
When I finally got pregnant, I asked my gynecologist what my choices where, and she strongly recommended to contact Edda Labs and doctor Kristian Wright.
I did and we had several phone conversations where he explained everything to us in detail and answered all our questions. And we had a lot.
Kristian could also recommend some clinics who could help us take the blood test which made everything a lot easier. The test was taken in week 11, and sent back to Sweden the next day for analysis. The process was really easy.
Unfortunately the answer broke our hearts. Kristian called us in person and told us that the test showed that the risk for Downs Syndrome was high. He explained that we should double check the result to be sure and take a sample of the placenta.
Finally we would get help at a hospital in Norway.
If it had not been for Kristian I don’t think we would be able to do anything that day. We both felt paralyzed and devastated.
Within a few hours he had organized everything with the hospital and booked an appointment for me.
I showed up at the hospital (all alone because of the corona situation), took the test, and a few days later we got the answer that the results of the NIPT test unfortunately were right and our baby had Downs Syndrome.
We had tried to prepare for this, but getting the confirmation was another punch in the face. We of course hoped till the end that the diagnose would be wrong.
Even though we had agreed before we got pregnant that the right thing for us would be to take an abortion if something was reseriously wrong, it was really painful now that it was really the case and we had to make the final decision.
We both really wanted the baby, and I as the mother already felt a strong connection to the little one that was growing inside of me. I felt a lot of guilt and felt like a bad person for choosing something so “selfish”.
We also felt that people around us had strong opinions about what to do, and not everyone that knew agreed with our choice.
The hardest thing was that we had to apply for the right to determinate the pregnancy. I thought I would faint walking in to the room to meet the two doctors in the comity. I had to explain with my own words what had happened and convince them that it was my own choice to take the abortion. Even though everything seemed very strict and serious, I felt that they truly showed compassion and understanding for the decision we had made.
It felt really good to also talk to someone like Kristian who could talk about all the sides of this diagnose and be honest and say that it in many cases also envolves a lot of other diagnoses and complications. We would for sure love this child the same as any other, but the sircumstanses could make life very different.

The abortion was done on the 30th of December and we stayed at the hospital for 1,5 day. It was a painful and very difficult experience that we hope we will never have to relive, but the nurses and doctors were really kind and caring.

1,5 month later we still struggle with the loss, and it feels hard and scary to think about trying again. But we know that for us this was the right decision, and we are so thankful that Kristian and his team not only helped us with all the practicalities that it envolves, but most of all for all the care and support that he showed and still showes months later.
We are for ever thankful to you Kristian!

I had a very good experience with Eddalabs. They followed up on my situation very well. I´m very glad that it was possible to do the NIPT-test through Eddalabs because I believe it is very useful for coming parents to be able to make informed choices about their and their babies lives. And it makes it possible to prepare for certain situations. I´m also only months away form getting these tests taken in Norway due to age. And especially in this situation it´s a big relieve to be able to take the test through private medical centres.

Satisfied!

We are very satisfied with the process - the information we got before we took the test, how everything was organized (ex. sending the test to Sweden) and how quick we got our answer. Hopefully this will be possibly in Norway sooner rather than later!

Good and safe experience

First of all it was very comforting to receive quick and honest help from the first day we sent an email to eddalabs. I got guidance over the phone or sms/email for every question I had at once- by far more service than you could expect. And having one doctor as a contact point was nice. Received my test results within a week. A big THANK YOU!

Great experience

When I talked to my family doctor about our wish to do a NIPT test as it is usually recommended in most countries when over 36 year old, she just told me that Norway didn’t have such a test available although they had recently voted that it should be accesible to all women over 36. She informed me that they were some possibilities in Sweden but was quite sceptic about it. I found Eddalabs on Google. There website was very well done and gave all useful information about the process as well as the important aspects of the test to be aware of. I ordered the test kit and got contacted by a Swedish doctor who made sure I had gone through the online NIPT school giving all important information about the test. He also gave me advice about where to take the blood test in Oslo and when to send the test to Sweden since I was entering my week 10 in the middle of the Christmas break. I received a secured email with the results a little more than a week later. I guess they didn’t contacted me on the phone because the results were completely normal. All and on, I experienced a great service and I felt in good hands which is crucial when doing such a test that can cause anxiety. I truly hope women in Norway will get the right to have access to this test without having to order it abroad.
