I'm sorry but this retailer has lost their way
I'm sorry but this retailer has lost its way. I was always going into EB Games, they were my first choice and I'm a level 4 member. Now I'll never go back, for an electronics Boutique, they have turned into a pop culture merchandise shop, not just my local but all over the Gold Coast. I think EB Games is done, they could at least have the dignity to bow out with Grace and just become Zing pop culture. They're not even a shadow of the previous stores. I'd honestly give zero stars but that's not possible
In store customer service so bad. Switching to online services only.
Iv been a customer and top teir account holder with EB games for 2 decades. I wont ever purchase from them again after the incidents with my last 2 pre-orders.
First time, i recieved a message saying the game was ready for pick up the saleman thought it would be funny to ask for my photo ID(which has never happended before) which i had left in my car and despite me having my phone, the message it was ready for pick up and my account details. He demand i produce my id or i wouldnt get my pre-paid item.
Ths second time, was today. I had pre-paid for a copy of RE9 and told the staff i would be away for work and wouldnt be picking up until monday. All i got today was apology someone had sold my fully prepaid for copy and offered a refund as they had no copies left.
For a business that has to compete against cheaper online services. I find it ridiculous how poorly self aware their employees are and the importance of actually offering good service.
I will no longer be bothering to support the stores physical locations. They are essentially just toy stores now and cant be relied on.
Don’t do it
Do not order from them online or pay extra for express post. Their express post is just as long as standard post.
Slow, lazy, unprofessional and completely greedy.
They are not the shop to go to for gamers
Dont order from ebgames
Dont order from ebgames. They take your money and cancel your order
I got blocked "for security reason"…

Do not trade your games here, its a rip off!
Its a hard review, cause the 1 star is so deserved, their recent EB PLUS system, is in plain sight a scam system, but legally, they've covered themselves with enough T&Cs to keep Diddy out of prison. Many of the other reviews cover the pains of the refund system, so I wont repeat, and the no cashback refund policy in Western Australia is idiocy.
But the real problem starts with how this game TRADES, the entire point of EB GAMES, was a corporate think tank of how do we make it easy for you to come to a shopping centre, grab those games off you, for 25% of their value, and put them back on the shelf for another 75% and do absolutely no work what so ever, and here you are, at EB GAMES. Don't even get me started on this LEVEL system they created, getting to level 4 sure, you get some nice benefits, like, hey we scam you a little less when you trade with us, thanks for giving us $5000-$10000 to date, but don't worry about that. And that level stays, but the real evil comes with this level 5 system. A select 9,999 people each year spend way more than necessary to be the top spenders on the system and get an EXCLUSIVE invite to become LEVEL 5 for a year! WOW!. No, you get a rubbish gift, worth the equivalent of me offering you a single 1ply tissue, after you just used the bathroom and found no toilet paper. And "exclusive events" which is just you buying more of their rubbish, at inflated prices. Its honestly not the high society they want it to be. But you know what, I know some of these people, they are private businesses, TCG sellers, retro game stores, people who buy/sell games themselves, and do custom arts, etc. Good for them? But the every day no ones, desperately clinging to be apart of something so bad, it had to be LEVEL 5 at EB GAMES. Well lets hope these conflict talks around the world escalate soon for all our sakes right.
SUMMARY
The absolute best think if I had to think of one about EB GAMES, and why I am thankful for its existence, is that I can have a quick browse at some well organised games based by platform, often alphabetically, albeit their ridiculous prices. And when I find the one I like, I add it to my notes, and walk over to the nearest JB Hi-Fi and grab it from their for often $10-20 cheaper every single time, even on pre-order/release.
What a Rip-Off
Absolutely shocked by the trade-in policy here. I bought a pre-owned game for $44 just three weeks ago. When I tried to trade it back in, they offered me a measly $10.
The worst part? They're still selling that exact same pre-owned game for $44. How can the value drop by 75% for the customer in three weeks, but remain exactly the same for the store? It’s a complete rip-off. I won't be trading or buying games in here again.
Taking advantage of disabled customers
My daughter, with an obvious cognitive disability, visited EB Games Hornsby and traded in a Nintendo Switch which was not hers. It is painfully obvious that she has a disability and red flags should have been raised. Instead, ths store traded a near new machine in for an outrageous sum of just $122! I contacted them within two hours to dispute this transaction, and despite them still having the goods, they would not return them, even though I had the receipts proving my ownership. They said I could only get the device back by lodging as a stolen item at Hornsby Police. My daughter was is an extremely distressed state and with her disability was fearful of going to the police. I again visited the store to plead my case with no luck - apparently their policy does not allow for return of goods to rightful owner - even with proof of ownership. Not good enough EB Games and I will be taking this matter further. Shameful experience.
I was lied to about the price of a PS5…
I was lied to about the price of a PS5 and they would not refund the difference.
EB GAMES VIOLATE AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER LAW
EB GAMES VIOLATE AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER LAW. An Xbox Series X controller, purchased at EB games Gladstone, was to be returned under warranty (well within manufacturer warranty period). The EB games staff member advised that, because an EB Games extended coverage warranty was not purchased, the options were either: Return to manufacturer directly, pay EB games a $20 shipping fee to ship it to the manufacturer, or sell it to them as a used item for $20. THIS IS EXPRESSLY AGAINST AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER LAW. This I also perceive as an attempt to commit fraud by convincing us to cheaply sell an expensive item to them through deception. This I also perceive as an attempt to deceive us into paying for extra 'protection' when the product is already covered by Australian Consumer Law protections.
Excerpt from the ACCC website:
"Businesses must not tell consumers to take the problem to the manufacturer or importer.
When a product has a major problem, consumers can choose between a refund or replacement.
Businesses must fix a minor problem with a product or service by at least giving a free repair."
What a bunch of crooks. I should report this to the ACCC for investigation
Nil online customer service
Online customer service barely exists. I have emailed them with general queries and had quick replies however when I have tried to initiate a return they do not reply.
I thought this may just be because they were busy however over two weeks I have sent three follow ups and had no communications back. It's difficult to recommend them when their competitors offer the same products and better service. It's also a let down as the customer service provided in store is usually to a very high standard.
Appalling company with non-existent customer service. Shop elsewhere!
I ordered a Micro SD Express card for my Nintendo Switch 2 and the wrong item (a non-Express unit that doesn't work with S2) was packed by staff at their Craigieburn store. Their error is now my $130 financial loss.
Because I used Paypal as the payment method, I cannot exchange it for the correct item in store, or get a refund in store. You'd think with such a restrictive policy, they'd make online returns easy, right? WRONG
It's been nearly two weeks since I contacted online support and... nothing but crickets. Guess that exchange or refund won't be forthcoming.
Never again, EB Games. I'll tell everyone I can to steer clear of your stores.
To add insult to injury, Paypal has washed it hands of this transaction and their buyer protection scheme went awol when I tried to get my money back.
Just an awful experience all round.
On June 13th Bad customer Survice
On June 13th, 2025, I visited EB Games in Morley Galleria to purchase a Pokémon box. The store is advertised to close at 5:30 PM, and I arrived two minutes before closing. Despite this, I was told by Nina I wouldn’t be served. I pointed out the time on my phone, explaining I just wanted to quickly buy one item, but the staff member insisted the store was closed and told me to leave, stating she didn’t want to argue.
If the store closes at 5:30, customers arriving before then should still be served especially for a straightforward transaction that would have taken seconds. As a loyal customer, I was extremely disappointed by this lack of courtesy. Frankly, it felt dismissive and disrespectful, she was very rude.
I ended up going to Good Games Morley instead, where the staff were friendly, the service was excellent, and the prices were even better. Safe to say, that’s where I’ll be shopping from now on.
Terrible service
A year ago or so I saw that Eb Games had a president Loki FUNKO for sale and I tried ordering it online via the website using my gift voucher which stupidly didn’t bloody work so I went into the store and asked why it didn’t arrive and the person behind the counter said that “It apparently go lost in the mail and had to be shipped back to the distributor and I asked for a refund or if anything could be done and the guy simply said “As I have said WE CANNOT GIVE YOU A REFUND OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS I’m sorry”
I gave up the delivery a few days to see if it would miraculously arrive then I canceled the delivery and went to QBD and purchased the president Loki FUNKO pop for $15 instead of paying $25.
Local EB going downhill
Local EB going downhill, used to be a regular and now that I order less the care isn’t there. Last order I picked up for a board game was smashed on the side as if dropped from a height or during transit and was told it could not be replaced or a discount given. The former friendly staff are now very curt leading to a less than desirable experience. For a chain of stores that now sells more novelty stuff than the games they were built on. Sad.
Just, sucks
Just, sucks. Spent an hour putting stuff in the cart during a sale tonight. At checkout they say Click & Collect is unavailable and they want 70$ for delivery... WTF. For just a bunch of novelty crud, socks and such.
Poor service
I ordered a game which could then not be found in store.
The email informed me that I could get my item delivered instead, however, this was not an option on my account.
I emailed customer service, however, this was a shambles.
I was constantly told the 'computer says no'. No free delivery or discount code was offered. I was just told that I had to cancel my order and that I would have to pay more for the same item as well as pay for delivery.
Amy also refused to escalate my complaint and issue to a complaints team or manager/supervisor.
Ebplus is a literal scam
Ebplus is a literal scam. Ordered a preorder product online at a discount price, tried to pay it off in store, but they won't let me pay it off till release day, which is after my ebplus expires, and there's a chance theyll not give me the discount. False advertising, scam, scummy predatory bullshit from a company that doesn't offer value, or service to its customers.
Bad online deals, worse business models
I had stopped buying from EB Games years ago because the prices were outrageous in comparison to other retailers and the service had become below substandard. They recently held a "Mad Monday" sale and I thought why not try to get some online deals, but no, items that were listed as in stock were out of stock, delivery options were a nightmare and the website stock listings were just outright wrong. In addition they opened the sale early to all their paid subscribers and the people who have their "Level V EB World Membership" (i.e. exclusive club for people who can afford to spend $5-10K+ a year on videogames and collectibles), so not only was there stock a complete jokes but anything good on sale went to people who could afford it when it wasn't extremely discounted. A scummy retailer with garbage prices and terrible web design.
I used to have nothing but good things…
I used to have nothing but good things to say about EB Games up until 2-3 years ago Have not bought a thing from them for this amount of time! Guess they just programmed their stuff to say that looks like a wear and tear issue never used the item till one day decided to pull it out of the box three uses later it broke I was six months down the track and clearly, you could see it was a product manufacture issue where the plastic on the turtle beach headset was faulty. bad customer service! I feel really ashamed that I used to spend 15k plus at this store a year beforehand. I will never buy anything from here ever again. This is just an example of four items I brought back for shame EB this is just appalling. Can't believe I wasted so much money in this store. they never even replied when this issue was raised in store. When the manager said would hear back from EB head office within a couple of days. Just Saying Don't waste your time or money on these sores just shop around and get it elsewhere, cheaper and under a better warranty!!!!
