Overall
Overall, it is a good service provider. I did encounter one issue, however. When I first registered my domain, I manually configured the DNS settings for my email and saved them, as the option to do so was available. I expected that when I transferred my domain to Dynadot, my DNS records would be imported automatically—or at least that I could simply retrieve the existing configuration and finalize the setup with a single click. That didn't happen, and I was forced to enter my DNS records all over again from scratch.

Entire service suspended without adequate support or explanation
We operated x.gd, a large-scale URL shortening service handling more than 120 million redirects per month, with Dynadot as our registrar for many years.
Our experience ended with Dynadot suspending the entire x.gd domain over an abuse issue, without first giving us the specific offending URL or a reasonable opportunity to investigate and resolve it.
We responded immediately to the suspension notice and contacted Dynadot repeatedly because the entire service was affected. Despite the scale and urgency of the situation, we did not receive a timely substantive response. The domain remained suspended from October 1 to October 5, 2026, affecting the entire service.
This is one of our biggest concerns. If a registrar is prepared to take an action as severe as suspending an entire production domain, it should also have a responsive escalation process capable of dealing with the consequences of that decision.
X.gd serves a large number of legitimate users, websites and businesses. Suspending the domain does not disable one abusive link; it affects every legitimate x.gd link at once.
The importance of considering collateral damage is also recognized in ICANN's published guidance on DNS abuse mitigation, which highlights the potential harm to legitimate content and services when an otherwise legitimate domain is suspended.
We also take abuse very seriously and operate dedicated reporting channels. Had Dynadot provided the specific offending URL, we could have investigated and acted on it directly.
What is especially difficult to understand is that the nature of x.gd is clearly documented on its public website and service pages. A basic review would show that it is a large shared URL-shortening service, not a phishing domain created for a single malicious purpose.
We cannot know Dynadot's internal process, but the circumstances left us with the impression that the suspension may have been applied mechanically or without sufficient human review.
The domain was later restored even though we had made no change to the domain or service that would explain the restoration. This leaves serious questions as to whether the original domain-wide suspension was necessary in the first place.
Even afterwards, Dynadot did not provide the specific URL that triggered the suspension, nor did we receive a meaningful explanation of why the domain had been suspended and later restored. There was also no apology for the disruption caused.
After transferring x.gd to another registrar, the difference was clear. Our new registrar confirmed that abuse reports are first sent to the registrant for investigation and action, with domain-wide suspension treated as a last resort.
Soon afterwards, they received a phishing report concerning an x.gd URL and simply forwarded it to us. In fact, we had already received a report about that same URL from one of our users and had already dealt with it.
We fully understand that registrars must act against phishing and malicious use. Our complaint is not that Dynadot acted on an abuse report, but that it imposed a domain-wide suspension without first providing us with the specific offending URL, then failed to provide an adequate and timely response when we contacted them immediately and repeatedly.
We had used Dynadot for many years, so leaving was not a decision we made lightly. However, this incident fundamentally changed our assessment of the risk of entrusting a critical production domain to Dynadot.
The combination of an extremely broad suspension, inadequate escalation, lack of transparency, no clear explanation, and no apology led us to conclude that Dynadot represented too great an operational risk for an important service.
We therefore transferred x.gd to another registrar.
