Terrible company undervalue properties…
Terrible company undervalue properties and do not show up for appointments. Apparently the car broke down ?? Cancelling an hour before appointment Useless and very unprofessional company
Terrible company
Terrible company.
Honestly dont know where they make up their valuations from, we had 3 lender valuations all significantly above what they valued the house we've offered at, but as they are advising the lender were in a fixed term mortgage with we're stuck. Even after appeal they have not flexed - terrible, stubborn, avoid.
Huge undervaluation
Following 2 valuations performed by local estate agents, I was shocked to find Countrywide later valued my home at 50k less which by all accounts on Trustpilot seems to be normal practice for them. The low valuation has put my plans and the arrangement with my lender in jeopardy. I'd give Countrywide no stars if I could, they're playing with people's lives.
93% 1 star reviews tell their own story. Undervaluing is definitely a theme with them.
The guy who came didn't explain anything other than to say he didn't need me to accompany him as he wandered around my home and garden. He was here for about 10 minutes!
AVOID if you can.
Absolutely awful company
Absolutely awful company. Please don't waste your money with these people. Rude and incompetent staff. Take note of all the poor reviews and use anyone else but these people.
I wish I never contacted them
Omg, I wish I never contacted them. I have a survey booked with another provider (I have told them this) and they just do not stop cold calling for business.
I blocked their number and now they just leave voicemails with a voice recorded message. They are a total pain on the backside and you'll regret it if you contact them via web or phone.
Don't make the same mistake!
DO NOT USE
They made up their minds before entering the property, seemed to be in a rush, and had to be coaxed into looking around. After some encouragement, they completed tests that lasted about 10 minutes. The report ultimately stated that the property was unmortgageable because it was originally two separate properties. Interestingly, it had passed with a different firm just six months ago.
Please stay away from this company even…
Please stay away from this company even your lender recommended you
Couldn’t be worse for help to buy
Countrywide complete messed up our help to buy valuation, not following recommendations from help to buy or having knowledge of their procedures. Their mistakes have cost us thousands and their customer service is awful. The time and money this company has cost us has hit us heavy. Please avoid at all costs
The worst surveys you can ever have…
The worst surveys you can ever have please if the lender appoints them for your survey they value the property unbelievably less
Avoid if you can. They've got a reputation for a good reason.
Dave the valuer in a rush to finish for his Saturday overtime down valued and practically ridiculed the property I was expecting additional borrowing on. Despite other properties on the market at a higher price than the loan asked for. Unbelievable.
Sadly cannot do anything when it comes to the lender paying for these idiots. I wish there was better legislation around this.
Spent about 10 minutes in the property…
Spent about 10 minutes in the property and then determined it to be unmortgageable because the communal areas were poor? Company designed to save their own skin, useless in practice.
Lied in the report
Lied in the report, and wasn't able to get a re-mortage.
they work with the banks to deliberaly…
they work with the banks to deliberaly devalue properties so they can charge more, unfortunately they're allocated by the bank so I don't even have a choice.
Terrible, absolutely avoid
If the countless other 1 star reviews here weren't enough to put you off using this company, please heed my advice and stay far away.
Our buyer instructed Countrywide Home Surveys to undertake a level 2 survey on the property we are selling.. and what a disaster it caused.
The survey came back with so many grade 2 and 3 issues listed that our buyer pulled out instantly. We managed to, after stressful days of back and forth, keep her on board provided we paid for and accommodated investigations and necessary repairs into all points raised.
Well, thousands of pounds later, every point that we investigated has been verified as totally untrue by experts in each respective field. Please see a few below, to give you an idea:
- The surveyor stated the entire ground floor had 'very high' damp readings -- a damp surveyor then later confirmed there is 0 damp present at all and no high readings.
- Another lie identified was our windows being listed as 3 - urgent and dangerous - due to not having kite marks. After flushing money down the drain arranging a glazing specialist to come and look, it was verified that no windows or doors on the property required kite marks, according to the legislation.
- The surveyor advised that soffit vents would need to be installed due to no roof vents being present. I took 5 steps backwards out of our driveway the day after reading the report and clearly saw a roof vent, but obviously had to pay for a roofer to verify this to satisfy the buyer. Clearly the surveyor just did not look.
There were many other points I can't be bothered to write, as I don't feel that these reviews will lead to improvement from this company as they clearly don't care. However, I feel it is important to try to prevent anyone else using this company and having their transactions torn apart as a result.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Absolutely useless company. Got stuffed with them last year for a survey and also with a recent mortgage valuation. De-valued the property £40k below the initial valuation - house is 6 years old in immaculate condition. Guy who came out was very strange and demonstrated no knowledge understanding of the local area/property prices. If you're ever selling a property/remortgaging and your estate agents/lender point you towards these lot, avoid at all costs and refuse to deal with them. Absolute clown college - I cannot stress enough how much you should be avoiding. Contact your lender/estate agent immediately and outright refuse to deal with them.
★☆☆☆☆ Extremely Disappointed
★☆☆☆☆ Extremely Disappointed – Major Undervaluation Has Jeopardised Our Future Plans
We are extremely disappointed with the service provided by Countrywide. Their valuation of our shared ownership home came in a shocking £40,000 below a separate RICS valuation we obtained shortly after — a staggering and unjustified discrepancy that has had serious consequences for us.
This undervaluation has completely stalled our plans to staircase our property, something we’ve been preparing and saving for over a long period. As a result, we are now facing the very real possibility of missing our window to increase our ownership, which may ultimately ruin our chances of ever being able to fully purchase our own home. The emotional and financial impact of this cannot be overstated.
What’s most frustrating is the lack of transparency or clear rationale behind such a low valuation, especially when other independent and qualified professionals see the property’s value significantly higher. It’s hard not to feel like this carelessness — or lack of understanding of the local market — has cost us dearly.
We would strongly advise others, particularly those in shared ownership schemes, to think twice before using this surveyor. A mistake of this scale isn’t just an inconvenience — it’s life-altering.
No stars - Mortgage Sale Undermined by Surveyor’s Decision
Mortage company used Countrywide for mortgage valuations, and the experience was incredibly frustrating. After a 15 minute visit the surveyor refused to put any value on the property due to proximity to a pub, despite the property having had multiple mortgages over the years and no actual issues. The decision felt excessive, unsupported, and completely derailed a sale in progress — with no real recourse or transparency.
A different surveyor from the same company also undervalued my buyer’s property by £30k, which added to the chaos. I understand surveyors must be cautious, but this felt like box-ticking rather than balanced assessment. Their reviews suggest I’m not alone.
If you’re buying or selling, be aware that many lenders use Countrywide by default — and that could introduce major headaches into your sale. I’d strongly recommend confirming with your lender or broker which firm they use before proceeding.
Would give Zero Stars or Negative review
Terrible service from Countrywide so not surprised to see these reviews. Appt took over 2 weeks and Chris came in (grumpy and unfriendly) stayed in for less than 10min and went off.
Undervalued the property by over 200k as don't think He took into account the new built 45 Sqm Annex as as per current lender value of main house is higher than what the surveyor mentioned.
Apparently we cannot appeal so have to look for another lender I guess delaying the whole process. These scamsters should be closed if they cant do their job properly ruining time , money and effort people have put in to build homes.
Give them a wide birth.
A pleasant experience with the surveyor, once the information reaches whichever office thats where the good ends.
House has been undervalued by circa £35-50k leaving you to now find another lender to correct the LTV shortfall thats been left with survey.
At best this survey falls short of Zoopla expectations by 18K, who notoriously undervalue property’s to limit expectations.
It would appear that despite
Sending someone to your home, ultimately they will then conduct a desktop survey purely based on houses sold in your area irrespective of the value of your property or wether the homes are actually comparable to yours in terms of value adding features such as additional land etc.
They will ask for feedback from you based on the experience well before you receive a property valuation to prompt you into leaving a glowing review.
My advice, irrespective of whichever lender you are moving to, if countrywide are suggested as the surveyors, request a different company.
I won’t be appealing this undervaluation as ultimately they have made their mind up and so have I. I won’t be wasting my time on this company beyond writing this review.
These people do not care at all
These people do not care at all. My mortgage through NatWest requires them to survey my property. 2 week lead time, on the day they found a locked gate and made no effort to ring the telephone numbers I provided that morning. Unapologetic on the phone, no explanation, 2 weeks for a new slot. Clearly could not care less. One star is too much. Also the contact forms on their website seem to regard all form of contact as spam which must save them time, but makes communication more difficult.
