What A Pity Dealing With Citi!!!
I have been dealing with 4 disputes through American Airlines and Citibank. AA has processed all of the disputes and refunded the monies on February 23rd. It is now 3/18 and Citi still says they are waiting to hear back from the merchant. I have sent correspondence from the airline with reference numbers from their accounting department to Citi and they continue to hold the funds. American Airlines please switch banks!!! Costco please switch banks!!!!
This is probably the worst financial…
This is probably the worst financial institute you can deal with in the United States. Especially their Credit card system is so bad I would not deal with this bank ever.
Absolutely the worst customer service…
Absolutely the worst customer service experience I have ever had with Citibank. I attempted to make a simple $30 purchase with my credit card and was asked to call in to verify my identity. When I called customer service, I was told that I had failed the verification process, even though I provided all of my correct personal information.
The representative repeatedly insisted that my answers were wrong, which makes absolutely no sense when I was giving them my own, accurate information. I asked if there was any other way to verify my identity, especially since we are leaving to travel in three days, and this card was opened specifically for that purpose.
I was transferred to a supervisor named Adam, who was completely unhelpful. He repeatedly told me that the only way to verify my identity was to wait for a letter in the mail. I explained multiple times that this would not work because we are traveling in three days, but he simply kept repeating the same script.
It is beyond frustrating that a bank can tell you that you are not who you say you are, even when you are providing correct information, and then offer no alternative solution. Opening a credit card for travel that you cannot actually use before traveling is completely pointless.
Extremely disappointed with Citibank’s lack of flexibility, problem-solving, and customer care.

Fraud Review is Lacking Diligence
I was defrauded by a taxi driver in Buenos Aires - who charged my taxi ride on each of two different credit cards. I disputed the charge on my Citi card, uploading all relevant documentation. I then received an email from Citi's dispute resolution team, requesting that I upload the information a second time. Within a few days of uploading the data a second time, I received a response that stated the charge was mine. No explanation at all. Just, "case closed" without any details.
Going forward I will do everything I can to avoid using my Citi credit card.
One star is too much
One star is too much. Have a transaction that may or may not be much delayed from a merchant dealt with months ago. Called Citi to try to get confirmation that is was this old merchant and not fraud. Went through 4 people all who only had access to the same info available to me online. Actually less. My merchant is in Illinois. Citibank says the transaction is in Overland Park, USA which is Kansas. A web link for the merchant on the Citi Web site links to an appartment complex in Minn. No one at Citi bank can explain any of this. Directed me to Google it. According to the 4 people I talked to no one at Citi Bank has more info than is on the Web site. Not even the CEO of the company. (I believe that like I believe the sun rises in west).
If no one at the company has more info that what is on the web site, why do they employee them? What use are customer service and fraud prevention if they can not provide information to determine if there is fraud?
They would not answer questions and just read the same script. Do not have any conversation with customer.
CITIBANK: WITHHOLDS PENSION, LIARS BY OMISSION
CITIBANK: WITHHOLDS PENSION, LIARS BY OMISSION
Thank you Citibank for Extensive travel and expense to replace, activate replacement Citibank debit card, and continuing unsuccessful effort to get account online. After 3 visits and 4 extensive telephone calls and assurances that account “all good “ only to find next day account surreptitiously blocked. No help at all.
It is sad that this once great American…
It is sad that this once great American company has horrible customer service. 1. Service centers are staffed with barely English speaking staff.
2. The systems have glitches that never seem to get fixed. I have been trying to send wire transfers domestically and receive domestic wires into my account. Both are sent thru Fraud and even when you are cleared and Authenticated, and told no blocks or holds on your account you get sent back to fraud and no one can help you so you are in a continous loop. It has been over 4 weeks now. They say try tomorrow.
3. Lack of accountability, no seniors or escalation paths.
4 Lack of training
5. Experienced and knowlegeable staff have left for better jobs or retired.
Basically the operations and technology are a disgrace. I will be going to the regulators and filing a complaint this has gone on since Feb 15 until today march 15, 2026. Everyday is the same
Stupid and annoying
I opened another card and did a balance transfer and then they required me to call the fraud department after it had been open for about a month. This is tough for me because I have an audio processing disorder and have a hard time understanding people on the phone, especially when they have accents. But apparently it was a requirement. When I was on hold I was talking to my dad about how annoying and stupid the whole process was and then the Indian lady got back on the phone and said I heard you talking and I hope you know the line is recorded. Ok witch, I hope you know what a stupid and annoying process this is.

Absolutely one step above dog crap of a bank. Would give 0 rating if I could.
Chargeback Experience
I bought a lamp on 1/30, the business closed and never provided the purchased item, but kept my money.
Citi has forced me to file six disputes (currently filing my seventh dispute). They always say the reason is they "never received" the documention. When I display I have proof (emails and certified letters) they suddenly DO have the documentation. Then they close the case and we resort to square one. Oftentimes the day my certified letter arrives is the same day they close my case again: reason cited "not received".
Please do not trust Citi with your money, unless you intend to forfeit all protections and never perform a Chargeback. Citi does not value you or your time, only your money.
Citibank Mastercard: Good Riddance Idiots.
I helped my son get a Citibank Mastercard while he was still a student. This was because of the "good reputation" of the Citibank name. Since getting the card Citibank has so undermined the value of the card that I have told him to stop using the card until Citibank has started to increase the value of the rewards. Instead, Citibank choose to close his account due to lack of use. Citibank Management is so stupid to throw away its customers this way. Instead of marketing a decent competitive product to them. All these very overeducated MBAs can just join all the other AI powered businesses on the unemployment line. Good Riddance idiots.
The absolute worse banking and credit…
The absolute worse banking and credit card company we have ever used. Citi does little the nothing to protect its customers from fraud and scams. Citi became part of the scam. Bailey Shaffer with Citi (calling from 1-608-331-1698) called and talked over me every time I tried to speak. She turned the entire conversation into a straw man argument claiming ignorance of the facts.
Deceptive Billing Practices
I was a new card holder I was waiting for my statement in the mail. I never got it in the mail. I called customer service to see if they had the right address. He told me the statement was sent on line. I said I never approve to go paperless. I never go on the computer or use my phone for any business dealings. He then told me that the payment was late which was two days late. I told him I would pay the total on the phone of $3,000 to wave all late fees. If it had sent it in the mail, I would have paid it on time but I never saw the bill. All the charges which is a FINANCE CHARGE for my $3,000 of 76.99. The Manager said it is auto dump charge they cannot override the system. It is Citi Bank inability to do their job in the first place, the cost I had to pay for. This should have never happened. This is deceptive billing practices. This company keeps receiving compensation of scheming victims out of money for these finance charges.
Things went well for several years but…
Things went well for several years but my account was closed out of the blue. I have to wait 10 business days to review a letter with the reason, call center could not help.
I have paid my balances and the balance I do have is not high on the card. I am not sure why things changed.
Overall Good Experience over 5+ Years
Having a credit card through Citi has been great for the most part. Except for a couple of disputes I had that they found in favor of the vendor, which was utterly wrong. Otherwise, I’ve been with Citi for 5+ years now and have had a good experience.
Citi Card is a broken credit card…
Citi Card is a broken credit card company. For the past month I regularly get fraud alerts and declines. When I call they have trouble verifying me, eg. they cannot text me (everyone else can). when they finally verify me they cannot tell me why the card is being declined. Often they simply issue the dreaded verification letter which takes a week to 10 days to arrive. When it does and they reinstitute the account, it goes down again a day later. They refuse to acknowledge this and keep repeating the loop. Fraud alert, letter, fraud alert letter, etc. I am on the second card. None of the so called events e have been fraud. This is an Aadvantage card of long standing, but I am at the point where it is useless, so not only am I recommending ditching Citi Card, but the American Airline Advantage program as well. They do not have their act together in the least. Without the card, the program does not make sense.
