Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. Citi aided and abetted eBay in ripping me off despite substantial proof provided by me that I was getting defrauded.

I opened a Citi credit card…

I opened a Citi credit card specifically to take advantage of their advertised Ticketmaster presale ticket benefits. I was approved with a high credit limit, which made me confident I’d be able to use the card for a time-sensitive presale purchase.

However, I later found out my temporary card access is limited to $1,000, which makes it impossible to actually use the presale benefit as intended.

I contacted customer service and was told the temporary limit couldn’t be increased and the physical card couldn’t be expedited through the mail. I also spoke with a supervisor, Mitch, around 1:27 PM, who offered no solution or alternatives.

It’s frustrating because Citi promotes these presale benefits, but does not clearly communicate restrictions that prevent new customers from fully using them right away. This creates a disconnect between what is advertised and what is actually usable.

If you’re considering this card for Ticketmaster presale access, be aware that temporary spending limits may prevent you from fully using the benefit during time-sensitive ticket sales.

Bad customer service/stupid automated system

I recently decided to switch my savings account due to the extremely poor customer service at Citibank. What should have been a simple request—adding a family member to my account for end-of-life planning—turned into a frustrating and exhausting process.
At first, there was no option to be transferred to a human agent. After many phone calls, I finally reached someone, only to be told that I had to be on a live phone call with the person I wanted to add. Later, the requirement changed, and I was told I had to visit a branch in person—even though there are no nearby branches where I live.
I then requested that the forms be mailed to me. They were sent, but the delivery was returned simply because no one was available to sign for it at the door. Now I’m back to square one.
I am tired of dealing with automated systems and finding it so difficult to reach a real person for help. This entire experience has been unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming. Basic account services should not be this difficult to access. Very disappointing.

Never open a credit card in this bank

I am extremely disappointed with the lack of accountability at this bank. While traveling abroad, my card was fraudulently used across the US. Despite my immediate attempts to report the fraud, the bank's rigid verification process—requiring a US-based phone number I couldn't access—made it impossible to secure my account.

For two years, I visited multiple branches seeking a resolution, but I was repeatedly redirected to phone support or other locations. Now, they claim the case is too old to investigate, even though the delay was caused by their own inaccessible systems during the pandemic. It is ironic: they have enough security to block the actual owner from their funds, but not enough to stop a fraudster from spending them. I cannot recommend a bank that abandons its customers during a crisis.

Fraud victim created via vendor and again by Citi Bank

Fraud created via vendor, proved and monies put back in my account. However as a victim, Citi Bank also made me a second victim with first fraud by not providing a letter of fraud so that prosecution could happen. They are Judge, Jury and Executioner in victimizing their subscribers!

Customer Service is Rude and they will cease your funds.

A week ago I spoke to fraud and got my account fixed. They then turned around and lock me out of my account. I gave these rude customer service people 10 cellphone numbers today. All with different cell company’s. They couldn’t validate any of the numbers to verify me. The supervisor was rude as well. In all my life of working customer service I have never been spoken to the way these people spoke to me today. Then I have to wait on a letter to be mailed to me. So I have no money to go on my vacation with my kids. All because Citibank fraud me when I clearly told them a week ago it was me in my account. Nobody hacked me. I didn’t report any fraud or transactions to be refunded. Then I told the lady I was recording our phone call. She was continued to over talk me. Then I repeated myself once more to let her know once more and she hung up on me. All cause I just simply ask for my account to just be closed down. And wanted a supervisor. I’m applaud and not happy with my money being unavailable to use. Cause their system is crappy and unable to verify cellphone numbers. I will just stick to my navy fed account. Opened this account so I don’t mix up my business funding and my job funding. Thought Citi was going to be a good bank. Maybe I should of done better research on reviews.

Extremely Frustrating Experience with Citibank & its Customer Support

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I have multiple accounts with Citibank, and my experience with their customer service and issue resolution has been consistently unacceptable.

I’ve encountered several problems over time, including issues with their ACH transfer processes. Most recently, I’ve been unable to transfer money between my own business and personal accounts.
I spent over two hours on the phone speaking with multiple customer service representatives, and the issue still remains unresolved. This level of inefficiency and lack of support is incredibly disappointing.

Credit & trust gone bad....

Have had this card for 20+ years! The Jan. payment was late for a hefty fee, we blame the mail, or mail room, Feb I paid thru the phone,as I checked 3 days before the due date....not paid! Mar had a washed check that was deposited 2x! Had to close checking account, then Citi calls and said fraudulent charges, close the credit card acct. wait for new card...what a mess. AND, strange that 3 of my neighbors also got washed checks...I would say thieves are running the place.

Legitimate Dispute Denied Due to Incompetence

I had a legitimate dispute with a merchant and supporting documentation ready. Citibank did not at any point request that I provide any information, resolved the dispute in favor of the merchant, and upon raising this complaint to their customer service team, they refused to reopen the dispute and stated that the window of time to resolve the dispute was closed. Not only will that merchant never see a single penny from me again, but I’m now considering closing all of my accounts with Citibank out of principle.

Watch out for incorrect bank account connections to your credit card!

I just opened a new credit card account with Citibank. I set up the mobile app and used their prompts within the app to connect the card to my bank account for payment purposes. I then went in on the app to set up auto pay and noticed that the last 4 digits of the connected bank account were NOT the last 4 of my bank account. Tried calling and could not get a real person. Currently using the chat and the first agent kept me for 20 minutes and helped NOT AT ALL. The 2nd representative kept telling me he needed a "moment" to review the chat. For the next 15 minutes, he did not communicate with me and I kept receiving prompts to type a comment to "keep the conversation open." I finally typed that I was going to end the chat and try calling again. He never responded. I tried calling after that and did finally reach a human being. Though I had a very difficult time understanding her, she was able to help me...I think. Time will tell, I guess. Feeling very frustrated and somewhat anxious about dealing with a company that somehow connected my credit card to an unknown bank account and then when I get in touch about something so serious, I am then transferred around for 45 minutes with no resolution and people who seem to have zero idea how it could have happened or what to do about it.

Citibank steals money

I guess my review is Moot. They charged me a bounced check fee because their system failed to retrieve my payment from my bank. My bank says there is no record of an attempt to retrieve the payment. Citibank is just trying to steal money from people and since they are so big, there isn't much we can do about it.

Citibank is the worse place to get a…

Citibank is the worse place to get a card or a loan. Do NOT do business with them. They will charge you interest months later after you pay off your account. Paid it, closed it and out of no where I get an email saying I owe another interest payment. A month later and its late! No bill in the mail, nothing. So a heated conversation again with someone who you can barley understand claims my account is now paid in full. We'll see. I have a feeling I'll need to contact the BBB. Not happy with anything they have said or done as nothing has been true. If the account was paid in full last time and I closed the account why did I get charged agaian?!? Citibanks are crooks and liars. So I would highly suggest not to do any business with them unless you like getting screwed.

NEVER Deal with Citibank For Anything. They're Incompetent.

Trustpilot is usually a reliable place to get a sense of how a company really operates, so it’s no surprise to me that Citibank has such low ratings.
One of the biggest issues is simply trying to reach a real person, it’s extremely difficult, and even when you do, communication can be a challenge. Here’s what happened in my case:
I applied for a credit card specifically to complete a balance transfer, as I’m currently between jobs and was drawn in by Citibank’s 21-month interest-free offer. After finally receiving the card, I attempted to transfer $10,044.00. My credit limit was $15,400.00, so this should not have been an issue.
However, when I submitted the transfer online, it was rejected with a message saying I needed to call because the account was new. When I called, the representative informed me that I was only authorized to transfer approximately $4,000. I made it very clear that if I had known that limitation beforehand, I never would have opened the account. I then explicitly told them to cancel the transaction entirely, as I would instead use a card from Chase Bank.
About a week later, I discovered that my Chase card had a negative balance of $9,990.00. After investigating, I found that Citibank had gone ahead and processed the transfer anyway, despite my clear instructions to cancel it.
As a result, I’m now facing roughly $1,000.00 in costs to fix this situation. I fully intend to pursue this matter as far as necessary. If their calls are recorded, it should be clear that I explicitly requested the transaction be canceled.

I would give negative stars if I could

I would give negative stars if I could. . . Worst customer service EVER!!!!!! I reported my card missing four different times in February. I spent countless hours on the phone with them. I RECORDED the conversations because they were so inept. They allowed the thief to charge $6000 in charges on my card in Chicago. All charges were disputed, now their automated system is saying that I am responsible. NOPE CITI - you are responsible, and anyone working with Citi - just don't. If anything happens, you will spend months trying to fix it. They should be paying me a salary at this point.

New account

New account - called because they put it on hold for verification, and they keep asking for "another number" to send a code to. Who has multiple phones to send MFA codes to?

Their fraud dept is a joke.

Absolutely the worst ever

Absolutely the worst ever customer service for credit cards. All offshore, and the agents aaparently respond to calls for various companies and have no specific knowledge about Citi credit cards. All they do is look up things on their computer. They have difficulty understanding what you're asking, ignore any attempt to clarify, and just keep repeating the same irrelevant information over and over. There seems to be no way to elevate a question, or get to a more knowledgeable person or someone who is actually at Citibank.
