High quality insurance

Had to make a claim and it was straightforward. I was quite impressed.

I normally rent cars in my country of residence, and for Chew, this is conditional upon having booked holiday accommodation in the U.K. which was a shame, but I would still highly recommend this company.

Fair & honest

Very impressive. A car rental agency in Mexico tried to up the agreed (contract) price and Chew immediately refunded my excess insurance. I'll be using them again. Thank you for being fair & honest traders Chew.

Great value and easy claim process

I bought CHEW car hire excess insurance for a UK car rental after the recommendation from Which and the competitive price. I was obviously hoping not to need it but after scraping the car on a tight turn was left with a bill from the car hire company and so made a claim. The process was very straightforward - just needed to fill in a form and provide the car hire documents - and I received a full refund within a few weeks.

Quick and easy excess refund

Were involved in a car accident in costa rica and lost our excess. Was very easy and quick to get excess refunded, just had to fill a relatively short form.

Problem paying online

Problem paying online. Turned out to be my fault!
Support chap calls a few minutes later and enters my details and all sorted very quickly. Price is excellent. Will use in future.

Honest company

After returning my hire car, I was asked to pay for a dent in a tyre which would require replacing both front tyres.

Upon submitting evidence, CHEW provided a rapid refund without the lengthy back and forth processes typical of other insurance companies.

Plus, the annual cost is very good value. Excellent and honest service!

Affordable hire excess cover

CHEW website was easy to navigate and choose the cover that suits you. The online reviews of those who have claimed gave me the confidence that providing the right evidence was available, there would be no problem in getting paid in the event of me making a claim. No excess is also a nice bonus!

Excellent value for money and well worth while

Had an issue with a car hire company in Italy. Considering how reasonably priced the policy was I really expected issues, but having never had to claim through insurance before these guys were easy to deal with and understanding of the situation. Did have to exhaust other options first (credit card company), but they did pay out. Would use again!

Very poor customer service.

Terrible company. Put in a claim on my policy over eight weeks ago. A young girl scraped the car whilst parked. She apologised and wanted to pay me but when I told her it was a hire car she gave me false phone number. Although it was not my fault Chew's claims people say I will have to wait up to three months for them to look at it due to shortage of staff.

Great value policy. Much cheaper than paying the hire company rates. Didn't have to claim so can't comment on that process but will certainly use again

AVOID AVOID AVOID. Tried to make claim with them re a damaged hire car. Wriggled out of it saying uk advised against all but essential travel..! Car was damaged and I was insured. Their response. Hard luck. Sham service from a shill company

Unfortunately, like most travel-based insurance policies, the CHEW policy does not cover any claim resulting from travelling to a specific country or to an area where The FCDO or equivalent body have advised against all or all (but essential) travel.
This advice has been consistent within the travel industry before the pandemic and it is still in place for most insurance products.

I first tried to phone over 3 weeks ago. I’ve tried four times, waiting over 40 minutes one time with no answer. I’ve emailed three times and threatened to go to the ombudsman - all I got is a automatic reply saying we’ll be in touch.

I had to make a claim when I dinged my…

I had to make a claim when I dinged my rental car in Spain - couldn't get in touch at first as for some reason I couldn't reach the claims number until I returned to the UK - but once I did it was all sorted and paid within a week! I would certainly recommend.

Brilliant professional service.

I took out an annual policy with them as we travel a fair bit. The first time we used this we had our car vandalised in a car park. Chew sent us a claim form and we complied with all their requirements. A further phone cal was received to clarify a few details and they paid refunded us in full, the £600 that we had to pay the car hire company. Would thoroughly recommend. Superb service. If I could give them 6 stars I would

Took a bit of chasing and a longer than…

Took a bit of chasing and a longer than they said but they paid out in full for a £281 claim on a car rental and as a paid £4 for the policy, hard to complain. Car hire company provided full details and documents needed for the claim which helped.

You will find others that come back a…

You will find others that come back a little cheaper for car hire insurance cover , but they will not have all the little extras like baggage cover and hotel cover. They are a great price anyway , the cover is clear , just hope I don't need to use them.

Excellent insurance company :)

Excellent. Highly recommend :)

I have an annual policy and for the first time ever had to make a claim through the hire car excess insurance policy.

The company was helpful, clear and sent the claim forms as agreed via email.

I completed and sent them back, then received a nice call asking a few questions and they then paid the hire car company direct.

Good customer service. I will definitely renew with them next year.

CHEW don’t pay out for stolen hire cars

When you buy excess car hire insurance you expect to be covered if your car is stolen. Chew excess insurance confirms in its sales pitch and FAQ that excess for stolen cars is included.
Imagine our horror when our genuine claim for €1800 with all evidence and police report was rejected twice ( and still no solution). CAN YOU TRUST THIS COMPANY TO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND PAY OUT WHEN AN UNFORTUNATE CLAIM OCCURS! - No.
This is causing stress, stress, stress!!
