Beware. They are unprofessional and dishonest. You are at risk of being charged for damages you didn’t cause. We turned in our rental in the exact same condition as we picked it up. We walked around the vehicle with the manager. He said everything was good. OVER A WEEK LATER, they fraudulently charged me over $7,000 for minor damages on the roof of the vehicle. We didn’t touch the roof of the vehicle. The vehicle is set up so night that you can’t even see the roof of the vehicle. The photos show minor dents that again, we didn’t cause. They definitely won’t fix the dents and might try this again with the next customer who rents this vehicle Again, we were confirmed by the manager that the vehicle was in the same condition as when we picked it up. Who expects to be charged such a large amount eight days after leaving the country? They are taking advantage of tourists who they think will do nothing about it. Also, we purchased additional insurance through them but they refuse to cover the damages with the insurance we purchased. Additionally, the vehicle they rented us was in horrible condition. The brakes rattled the entire time. Later the manager admitted that his mechanics did a bad job and said “that’s what you get when you hire a polock”. I don’t mean to offend anyone by sharing that but those were his exact words. He admitted that his mechanic was negligent when inspecting the vehicle and preparing it for rental. The gas gauge was faulty. The radio stopped working mid trip. And we didn’t even get the vehicle we paid for and rented. We rented a Jeep. They have us a Dodge Durango. This wouldn’t even be happening to us right now if they had given us the vehicle we rented and is listed in our rental agreement. I believe they set us up for this from the beginning. It seems like this happens a lot and when the customer doesn’t want they sub par vehicle they offer, they offer a refund and then never refund it (according to other online reviews). We are getting the local police and a local lawyer involved. Cheap Jeep is an absolute embarrassment to the tourism industry in Iceland. I will not be engaging in any back and forth with the company or management of Cheap Jeep on this review HOWEVER, I am happy to discuss this with any other customer who might have questions because I would hate for anyone else to have to go through this.
The car was generally in bad condition. The clutch did not work properly and finally the brake system broke down. We had to wait half a day for a new car to show up. Noise occurred from the steering system now and then. One tire was too warn.
