Capitec is for fraudsters and against victims.

After a decade of being a loyal client to Capitec, I got scammed and asked for assistance in the case which was reported to SAPS. The response I got from them was "We Are Sorry For Your Loss", when I asked for details via WhatsApp they refuse to give me any details saying "My Case Is Closed, They Are Done With My Matter" even rudely asking is there anything else I want from them or can they end the chat.

Going a while month without any means for food or petrol to get to work because of being defrauded they show no understanding or empathy to show they work with people through all life difficulties.

I am very depressed and emotionally wrecked by this. Thank you Capitec.

Capitec’s Delays Cost Me My Home – Zero Communication, I'm Closing My Account

I opened a Capitec Business account believing it was a good choice for small businesses. That trust has been completely broken.

My company finally received a payment that I had been waiting on for months — funds that were essential to saving my home. But when I tried to access the money, I discovered my account had been locked without any notice. I only found out after attempting to transact.

I spoke to an agent who requested proof of funds, which I sent — a valid signed contract. Despite the contract stating that it’s valid until December 2025 with staged payments, I was later told by the call centre that the fraud department had dismissed it because it was signed in October last year.

I was then told another team was looking into it and advised to contact the paying party to “release” the funds. Capitec also requested information directly from the paying bank and client, which was submitted two days ago. Yet, I’ve received no feedback, no update, and none of my emails have been responded to since.

The result? I’ve now lost my property. And to make matters worse, I still have no idea what’s being done, who is reviewing the case, or what the next steps are.

After this deeply frustrating and financially damaging experience, I will be closing my Capitec account and moving back to my original bank — one that at least communicates. Capitec has lost me as a client.

I genuinely hope they improve for the sake of other small business owners. I understand the need for fraud checks, but the complete lack of transparency, urgency, and human empathy is inexcusable.

Capitec scammed me

I think I might have just got scammed by capitec.

my name is Njabulo Terrence Hadebe
On the 18th of July 2025 at 16:37 I made a cash send voucher to myself of a R1000 as I dont have my bank card with, tried withdrawing it and the capitec auto machine threw and error saying requested notes could not be withdrawn and then me thinking its because the amount is a big amount then I used a smaller amount and made another one of R500 and still had the same issue I then changed pins for both before leaving the atm just to be safe, then went to withdraw on my FNB account thinking I was going to get the cashsends some other time.

On sunday the 20th I realised that on the app they have now changed to redeemed for those 2 transactions and mind you I did not send the pins to anyone, upon trying to contact capitec with their in app call feature the call kept on getting dropped then on the 3rd time I took the name of Morine at 01:54 from client care who also dropped my call, also spoke with Thakgalang at 02:07 who also dropped my call, also called in again and spoke to Nombuso at 02:15 who also dropped my call.

I then tried using their whatsapp and still it keeps on saying it looks like we are having a bit of a challenge and then I have to start over and did that twice with no assistance.

So basically my money is gone, my calls are being dropped, the whatsapp if not working, what happens now? I am sitting with no reference number and I don't even know if this will be resolved but ill definitely not be silent

Capitec Bank blocked my business…

Capitec Bank blocked my business account. I'm a trader and I received money from my client. They have decided to block my account saying is suspected of fraud. I have provided the proof of payments and all the supporting documents that they have asked but they still not helping. They are now asking to explain why some of transactions are referenced "LOAN". I have explained that these transactions were from my personal capitec bank account. I was lending my business money. But the lady who is handling my case at capitec bank is not helping. I have called several times and they keep telling me my matter is still under investigation. They told me my account will only be unblocked once i send additional information, but i do not know which information.There is nothing as frustrating as calling them and they keep telling you same thing that they can't assist. Why is my account blocked in the first place. How should I pay for my debts since it's month end? I want my account opened. I'm tired of busy wasting money and calling without a way forward. All those agents are not taking my matter.

They should assign someone else to resolve my case because the lady by the name of Jessica Gumbi is not helping, and she got attitude.

So CALLED "Suspected fraud" on ACCOUNT
11 days ZERO FEEDBACK /ASSISTANCE FROM FRAUD DEPARTMENT
Customer Service and Branch unable to assist
None of their SO-CALLED assistance support channels are effective
Absolutely zero respect for clients

Non communication of suspension of online banking profile

I no longer have access to my internet banking profile all because they decided to suspend the profile without prior notification to me due to lack of use. I now have no access to their banking app (of which you cannot switch to another profile on an existing app using your log in details like you can on the FNB app). Unless you go into the branch, nothing can be resolved which is ridiculous, especially if you are unable to do so. Absolutely disgusted with them and will be closing that account at my earliest convenience.

Unauthorized Account added to my portfolio and No Support


I’m beyond frustrated with Capitec. A “Live Better” account was added to my profile without my consent, and money has been deducted from my main account ever since. I live abroad and can’t just walk into a branch or call easily — I’ve tried to resolve this via email multiple times.

Capitec asked me three times to schedule a video call. I responded with available times every time, and each time, they never followed up. No accountability, no resolution, and my funds are still being deducted.

This is unacceptable and feels like blatant negligence. I expect a full refund, an explanation for how this account was added without my authorization, and for it to be removed immediately.

If you live overseas or value responsive customer service — be warned.

Capitec online system is extremely…

Capitec online system is extremely useless, better go to the branch. Their system reject the same documents they say the client must attach. Let alone their staff who call you after showing interest on credit, not reliable and not professional at all. A person say I will call you back in 5min and the person call the next day.
If you serious about the credit you want go to the branch, their online system is something near to nothing.

Be very careful at Capitec ATM…

Be very careful at Capitec ATM Brooklyn. On 11th May 2025 i visited the ATM and it took my bank card and a cash withdrawal was made at ABSA ATM. I I lodged a claim and now Capitec refuses to refund my funds. The CCTV are sufficient evidence that I did not make the withdrawal. Daylight robbery from Capitec and will not bank with them again!!Lost client and hope more follow suit..They dont care about their clients..

I really dont like this bank

I really dont like this bank. They authorize payments on the wrong dates, and when you try to reverse wrong debit orders, you cant really do that anymore. Plus, their online app is down alot

Absolutely horrible service

Absolutely horrible service. Poor communication from Capitec and delays have wasted my time. I needed to open a business account for an NPC and made the mistake of choosing Capitec. The person assigned to me, Patrick, did not return calls or emails, and when they finally did, they did not even call the right number.

When someone says they will call me back that afternoon, but instead they call someone else the next evening, that is not good service. When they tell me they are sending an email on Thursday and instead send it on Friday afternoon at 16:55, that is not good service.

I had two Capitec employees working on my case and neither got anything done. I told them I needed the account opened the same week and 2 weeks later it is still delayed due to their negligence.

When we finally got to the Docusign part of the process the absolute incompetence at Capitec continued. I am the Senior Director of the NPC and was told they were sending me the Docusign on Thursday. But they did not send it. I emailed on Friday morning. No reply. I called on Friday morning. Was told they would call me back. They did not. I called again on Friday afternoon and was told the Docusign had been emailed Friday morning. It had not. I asked what email they had sent it to. It was not the email I have on record, but is an email I have access to. There was no email from Capitec. I asked why in the world they would have decided to send to that email and not my email on record. So they said they had to restart the Docusign process all over with a different department and a new Docusign would be sent to the correct email address ASAP. The Docusign was finally sent to the correct email on Monday. I signed it immediately.

They were then supposed to send the Docusign to the next director to sign, but instead, they did nothing. We only have 3 directors and it shouldn't have been so complicated or taken so long.

On Thursday afternoon Patrick finally called me to tell me we just needed to finish the Docusigns. The Docusigns that Capitec finds so difficult to email. They still have not sent them to the other 2 directors. If Capitec is so terrible about communication when opening an account, how could I trust them to ever give quality service? I should not have to constantly email and call a bank to get them to do what they said they would do.

I am so sick of dealing with Capitec that I am restarting the process at another bank. I will never deal with Capitec again and I would not recommend them to anyone else.

I spoke to 7 different people in their so called fraud line and no one helped me !!!!!!!!! I hate Capitec and I am closing my acc in the morning . I just got scammed of R5499.99 and they made me stay on a call for over 2 Hours and they still don’t help me !!!!!!!

Snail service from Capitec

Chat box is very poor took 30 minutes for assistant to grasp the problem I had.
In the end after over an hour waiting they never answer your question.
If you want quick banking this is not the bank for you.
If you want to waste two of your life and get nowhere I would definetly recommend Capitec.

Capitec is the best bank...BUT

Capitec is the best bank. Some of their staff is just plain incompetant to do a proper job. I have been trying since 28 Jan to do an international payment. I am currently in Vietnam. After 5 phone calls each one over 45 minutes talking no joy. I have registered over 10 complaints with case numbers. I have send maybe 12 complaint emails. To date the same story as on the 28 Jan. My problem is so small. But so big for the staff handling my complaints.

Worst experience ever

You use the WhatsApp to resolve a issue because you to busy to come they agents are unhelpful they pass you around and they tell you they can't reverse your money and rather want you to pay for a new card really definitely leaving there bank and moving to a new one really bad I don't think I will use them again.

I have a complain regarding service…

I have a complain regarding service received today (12/02/2025) at paledi mall branch next spar I have accompanied my grandmother to increase limit she was pressed and she is a pensioner 80+ we asked for toilet as I know she won’t be able to go to public toilet. I asked the lady who was giving tickets she went to ask the manager she refused so like do you normally treat pension like that mind due if it was youth I would understand. The next thing granny peed herself inside the branch like how is your customer service there and what I know and have seen incident like that happened at different bank but treatment was not the same . Kante how are you treating our pensions whereas they choose to bank you from what I know that’s not how you were trained for customer service. Worse thing is even the manager didn’t seem to care the way we received feedback from that lady . This is sad and bad. Or is it a way to show us we chose the wrong bank .
