Looking at 255 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers frequently reported extremely frustrating encounters with customer service representatives who appeared unhelpful, dismissive, and completely unresponsive during ongoing inquiries or account problems. Consumers also highlighted unreasonably high prices alongside defective or expired merchandise that consistently failed to meet basic quality expectations. Some reviewers were genuinely happy with specific store staff members who stepped in to provide quick assistance and resolve unexpected problems effectively. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with knowledgeable mechanics who efficiently handled complex automotive repairs and routine maintenance services.

Extremely Disappointing Experience at Canadian Tire (Mavis & Britannia – Store 0497)

I am compelled to share an extremely disappointing and frankly unacceptable experience at Canadian Tire’s Mavis and Britannia location, an experience that raises serious concerns about the store’s integrity, transparency, and treatment of customers.

On Wednesday, May 20th, my car suddenly stopped working and would not start. It made a distinct clicking noise, and even after a battery boost, the issue persisted. The battery, only six months old tested perfectly fine, and all signs pointed to a defective starter.

The next morning, I called Canadian Tire to confirm whether I could have my car towed to their shop that evening. I was told this was fine and that I would receive an estimate later that day or the following morning.

When I arrived with the towed vehicle, I clearly explained to the service representative that the car made a clicking noise and that the starter needed replacement. I asked for an estimate, and she repeated that it would be provided later. When she asked me to sign the intake form, I noticed a $140 electrical diagnostic fee. I questioned this immediately, since I had already identified the issue. She insisted the fee was “required to take the car in” and assured me I could speak with the mechanic or manager later to have it removed.

The next day, I was told exactly as I had already stated that the starter needed replacement. I approved the repair.

When I returned to pick up the vehicle, I spoke with Manager Earl and requested that the $140 diagnostic fee be waived. His response was dismissive and defensive from the start. He insisted I had signed for the charge. I reminded him of my conversation with the representative and asked him to verify it with her. After speaking with her, he returned and claimed I still had to pay the diagnostic fee, contradicting his earlier statement that the fee would be waived if I had mentioned the starter issue. He then went further and claimed I had never mentioned the starter at all.

When I asked him to review camera footage to confirm what I had said, he abruptly stated there were no cameras and repeatedly told me I had “no options.” His tone was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional.

As a long-time Canadian Tire customer, I am deeply disappointed and disturbed by this experience. Despite clearly stating the problem upfront, I was charged for an unnecessary diagnostic and then effectively accused of being untruthful when I challenged it. At a time when many people are already struggling, this kind of overcharging and refusal to acknowledge customer honesty feels exploitative and completely unacceptable.

This experience has severely damaged my trust in Canadian Tire, and I hope the company takes this seriously, because no customer should be treated this way.

Not a good experience unfortunately !

I was visiting my family in Canada from United Kingdom and went to their store in Mississauga ( thrice ).
Interestingly , i know about their master card more than any product in the store including the two items ( and e-scooter and a bike) that i bought which is a shame !
Also staff needs more education and training in regards to the products that are in store as they have very poor knowledge which is also a shame !
I hope that the products i bought workout well - it is too early to comment on at this stage.

Despicable customer service

Despicable customer service, I was there to return a brand new cooler bought a couple of days back, which was not the size we wanted, while returning it, Rebecca (DM) said she can smell something weird, I told them that we had tried to fit unopened cans in it to see how many can be stored, but she said could only give a exchange for a cooler only, to which I asked to see the policy in writing, as she could not show that, she called who was supposedly the store manager, Scott, who bluntly refused to even provide an exchange and hurried back into his office.

I can definitely see why with this attitude, there is only a trickle of customers there at given point of time as compared to the crowds at Walmart, Home Depot and Costco.

I think they really need to introspect what is going wrong for them as this attitude could be flowing from the top down.

Anyways, this was my last purchase at Canadian Tire.

Half ass rust proofing

Came to this location to get the rust proofing done on my truck..... paid for the complete package and come to find out after it's done when I go to pay that they don't even pull the tail light assemblies out to spray on the inside of the rear quarters. That is half the length of the truck so that makes you wonder what else is not done.... very disappointed.... and to top it off when I asked why they don't do it they said they're not trained to pull out tail lights... also when I brought the truck to them it was clean and now it the paint and windows have oil film all over them and they said that's how they usually give them back.... every other place I have gone to for rust proofing pulls out the rear tail lights and washes the truck afterwards .. will not be returning for rust proofing which is a shame because it is the only rust proofing spray I usually use

Recruitment Respect

During the entire interview process I felt that my dignity was at the center. I felt that no questions were invasive and rather were standard questions that focused on the job. I felt that my rights as an individual were respected.

Overcharged for Labor and Poor Customer Service -

Today July 11, 2026 I took my vehicle to the Canadian Tire at 1975 Dundas St. in London, Ontario, for brake service. I was charged $420 for three hours of labor, even though the work was completed in about 45 minutes. I understand that shops may use standard labor times, but charging for three hours when the actual work took a fraction of that felt unreasonable and unfair.

When I questioned the charge, explaining that I felt it was excessive, both the staff and the manager were dismissive and rude instead of addressing my concerns professionally.

Based on my experience, I left feeling overcharged and poorly treated. I would not recommend this location due to what I believe was unfair billing and unprofessional customer service. - Shanavas

Very poor customer service

Very poor customer service, no wonder Canadian Tire is dying and going to close soon in compitition. Nobody picks up phone in automotive service and parts and even someone picks up, nobody speaks and keep the call active for many minutes. Employess do not care nor does Management about the future of their corporation. I hope they can improve their service. It is so bad, over the years their always busy automotive service shop is a warehouse now.

Never have anything in stock

I live 35 minutes from the closest Canadian Tire. I always check online to see if there's any of the item I need in stock before driving to town. Multiple times I get there and there is not a single one in stock. And this is why Amazon is putting businesses into the ground.

Got new tires - Excellent service!

Order tires online and plan to get them installed. Dropped off the car, and the sales lady made some suggestions for alternative tires at a better price. Had the tires installed and things are running great!

I bought 2 life time warranty batteries…

I bought 2 life time warranty batteries in the 1990's. I sold 1 car and kept the other one. It's now 2026. My battery gave up again and took it in for exchange. The last time in 2018 they took my receipt and told me that they will just put me in the computer. Now they say the battery I got last time is 3 year warranty and I have no lifetime now. They conveniently didn't put any comments about life time. Second time they have burned me. Never going in there again and I strongly advise others to boycott this dysfunctional place.

I went in today desperately to figure…

I went in today desperately to figure out why my car was mildly overheating. After all discussions and explaining my issues, I only was able to speak to Rhianna who pretended that she was a mechanic. When I questioned her aptitude in auto mechanics she called me rude! She called me rude when I asked her about certain unrelated costs on my estimate. They did not address my issue rather telling me that I basically have to sell my car or spend thousands of dollars to replace everything. The worst part was that I was given the message by Rihanna who has not had a day in her life working as an auto mechanic!!!!

Re: Letter of Commendation for customer service employee, Mohammed (Leaside store)

Re: Letter of Commendation for customer service employee, Mohammed (Leaside store)

To Whom It May Concern:

I feel compelled to write this letter of commendation regarding one of your employees in the hardware department named Muhammad. He deserves to be recognized for his excellent customer service manner. Muhammad exemplifies what every employer should value in their employees. Customers feel valued after being served by him and he is clearly an asset to Canadian Tire. Without reservation, I wholeheartedly commend him in his work.

Since I am in my senior years, I have had many experiences interacting with customer service reps of all kinds. I was in your store in June 2026 with the purpose of finding a flat-bed dolly and had the good fortune of being served by Muhammad. It was obvious he had a genuine interest in assisting me to find the product I needed, and did so with a pleasant attitude. He was extremely service-oriented, displaying a long list of admirable qualities. He was attentive, eager to help, knowledgeable and fully-focused on my requests – all qualities that are desirable in anyone serving the public. After I chose one of the products he helped me with, he accompanied me to the cashier and tied up my purchases securely on the flat bed dolly I had chosen because I was walking a couple of miles with it.

You may already be aware of all the notable qualities in Muhammad, but regardless, I think it is worth a letter of commendation for his employment record.

In any business, it is most often the individual staff who define and characterize the company’s reputation portrayed to the public. Because of the customer’s positive experience with the staff, trust is established with the business, loyalty is built, and a desire to continue the business relationship is created.

Yours truly,

Mrs. Elizabeth Savary

We purchased a product and 3 weeks…

We purchased a product and 3 weeks later it went on sale. To our surprise CT only allows 7 days to get the difference back. In todays world with almost all major retailers, including U.S retailers, give the consumer 30 days. Our on "Canadian " retailer gives 7 days. Shameful.

Absolute worst customer service

Absolute worst customer service. I bought a pair of bolt cutters from this Marine Drive and Ontario location, only to realize they were completely broken. An associate had taken them right out of the display case and walked them to the cashier for me, so they were damaged before I even touched them. When I returned to the customer service desk, the woman working there was incredibly rude. She completely refused to look at the tool or listen to my explanation about how her own colleague handled the sale. Instead, she aggressively told me to take my broken items and leave the store.I have been a loyal Canadian Tire customer longer than this employee has been alive. I have never been spoken to with such disrespect. I will never shop at this location, or any other Canadian Tire, ever again.
