Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 130 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Reviewers frequently complained about receiving persistent demands and notices regarding account balances that they believed had already been settled or belonged to other accounts. Many people also struggled to reach customer support teams, often encountering extremely rude communication, automated dead ends, and entirely unhelpful responses when attempting to resolve their complex disputes. Some reviewers were happy with the assistance they received from certain staff members during their interactions. Customers noted that specific representatives were understanding, polite, and genuinely helpful when organizing straightforward payment plans for those facing financial difficulties.

Stop giving these fools your time and energy

Please do not engage with these fraudulent sharks. They have about as much authority as a Community PC with a lisp. Let them continue wasting their own time and money on vexatious claims as I have done for the last 18 months. Another letter of claim straight in the bin this week after the exact same letter of claim 11 months ago. I just sit back and laugh.

Harassing and threatening me for a debt in a place I have never lived!

They have harassed me with emails about a debt with British gas for a property I have NEVER lived at! With a company I DONT HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH! i have emailed them evidence about where I lived but all that did was redirect their threatening letters to my current property! How can you even prove that you have never lived somewhere?! I did contact British gas about this but even they acknowledged i don't have an account with them! I have no idea how they have my information and it's annoying and causes unnecessary stress, unprofessional and i have no idea how they can fumble the bag this much!

Scam

Scam - harassment - avoid!
This company has been harassing me over a privately owned (by me) parking space
My lease does not permit the freeholder or managing agent to impose third-party patrols or issue penalties on your space without my consent. BW legal harras people and use scare tactics but their argument wouldn't stand in court - dont let them win.

Chasing people for money with no evidence

Got contacted by these guys for an energy bill from OVO Energy. Since I have never been a customer it was a bit of a surprise. They could not provide any proof of me being a customer of theirs and it was left up to me to prove I was a customer of EDF.

Harassing Me for a Debt I Do Not Owe – Absolutely Disgraceful

Title: Harassing Me for a Debt I Do Not Owe – Absolutely Disgraceful

BW Legal has been harassing me for nearly four years over a so-called debt that simply does not exist. I settled every single penny with Southern Electric when I left them, and I have written confirmation stating that my account was fully closed with zero balance.

Despite this, BW Legal keeps sending me threatening letters and emails demanding payment for something I do not owe. This is completely baseless, unprofessional, and feels like nothing more than intimidation tactics.

I have never had any agreement or business with BW Legal, yet they continue to harass me. This is a disgraceful way to treat people, and I will not tolerate being bullied over a fabricated debt.

Avoid this company at all costs. They cause unnecessary stress and waste your time with false claims.

Regulated Scam Artists

Action needs to be taken against these perpetrators!!!!! This complaint needs to be investigated along with every company who have breached GDPR by sharing personal details with this unlawful company. I do not have any debt, I was issued a non compliant PCN demanding £100 fine for entering and exiting a car park within the code of conduct “grace period” PLEASE note this company have no intention of resolving any issues and are only interested in receiving funds and setting up payment plans for money you don’t owe. They don’t care if you don’t owe the debt they will chase you regardless it doesn’t matter if you send proof that the debt isn’t yours they will continue to chase you for a debt you don’t owe. There is no reasoning with these regulated scam artists. Action needs to be taken against this company. Report to the SRA, report to the FCA, report to the Legal Ombudsman. If you KNOW you don’t owe the debt don't part with a penny seek advice from citizens advice. Keep all your evidence should the company try to pursue in court. I can only hope that a judge would see this company for the rouge traders they are and throw any cases out of court. The more you engage with this company by calling and logging on to their portal the more at risk you become of being sucked in. This company have previously been reported to BBC Watchdog. REPORT your case to BBC Watchdog. Don’t let them win.

Wrongly Chased for a Debt That Was Never Mine

I received a debt collection letter from BW Legal claiming I owed over £3,000 to British Gas. However, I have never had any account with British Gas under my name, and I moved out of the address in question long before the alleged debt was accrued.

When I asked BW Legal for evidence or clarification, I was told that British Gas did not initially confirm the debtor’s identity, and once I was “located”, it became my responsibility to prove that the debt wasn’t mine. This is both unreasonable and distressing.

Debt collection agencies should verify the correct debtor before making contact, especially when such serious financial claims are involved. Their actions caused me unnecessary stress and forced me to provide documents just to prove something that should have been confirmed on their side in the first place.

This kind of practice feels more like harassment than legitimate debt recovery, and I have serious concerns about how my personal data was obtained and used without my consent.

I would not recommend BW Legal based on this experience and have raised this matter with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and am considering further formal complaints if the issue is not resolved.

These people have been aggressively…

These people have been aggressively chasing me for something I don't owe!!! They even told my mum!!!! Lol whatever next!!! I initially thought it was a scam, so blocked them on everything. Now they've started telling my mum of me, I will make contact to explain why there's no way I owe sky anything. So frustrating for a supposed aged debt to appear from no where for £11!!! They must have spent £100's trying to chase it absolutely does not make sense the way they are operating!!! 😞

Scammers

Got a call from this lot today. They left a voicemail asking me to call back. I don’t think so! I don’t have any overdue debts or payments. If I did, there would be correspondence. They can swivel. Blocked them. Scammers.

British Gas have failed to comply with…

British Gas have failed to comply with Ofgem resolutions ordering British Gas to match Octopus energy daily & kwh rates. BW Legal are acting as a debt collecting agency. Chasing me for an incorrect bill dated 19 May 2025 plus extra money which I have not currently been billed. Before chasing a debt surely they have an obligation to check the accuracy of the debt! Tried ringing them. Waited 37mins. There rep asked for reference on letter. No reference supplied. Then he hung up!

Crooks and scammers

So it sounds like many others I am joining the scammed list.

I will be calling them tomorrow.

They have started sending letters months ago claiming my husband owes money to British gas (to whom he was never a customer).

All bills with British gas were in my name which is why I know they are bogus bills to begin with. To make matters even clearer I signed in to my British gas account to double check we didn't miss anything. And to confirm my suspicions my account has been fully paid up and closed for close to a year.

They continue to send letters now saying they will take him to court.

Unbelievable. Scammers. I will call tomorrow. And if they do not desist I will call the police.

It looks as though they are doing this to many individuals.

Restrictive contact methods

The only way to contact them is by phone or using their portal as they block all emails. The issue is that their portal is very restrictive as to the number and type of documents that can be uploaded, one file limit and no zipped files. They try to be as unhelpful as possible in the hope that people will just give up.

I won a case against Affinity Water in…

I won a case against Affinity Water in April 2024.
But I received a letter from Bwlegal demanding this money again.
I have the court evidence. They have released me from this case.
I have provided all the evidence and I am not responsible for the bill claimed.
I am a single mother.
I struggled for a year with the bill that Affinity Water imposed on me.
I won in the end.
If I am harassed again, I will go to court again.

Zero stars obviously

Zero stars obviously. Got letter of claim from these jokers over a 3 year old parking ticket that doesn’t exist on behalf of a parking company that doesn’t exist anymore. They added their £60 and are willing to offer an affordable payment plan. Don’t bother calling them or setting up an account, because they are just powerless debt collectors and if they take you to court they have no evidence to win. The whole purpose of their letters (and calls) is to intimidate vulnerable people into paying without any evidence whatsoever.
